Spring training 2007

STARTING ROTATION
Entering camp with a plethora of starters. Nine to be exact.Ramirez, Agresta, Camp and Chase are the four definites barring trade or injury. Anguiano is the leader for the 5 spot, with Naclerio, Samvdio, Southern and Willoughby vying for the 5th that final spot as well as potential bullpen roles.
Free agent signing Ernesto Galindo is the closer and rookie Sam Ginn and Brad Turner will hopefully be the bridge. Tony McKinney is the only bullpen arm that will make the club or be traded as he's out of options.
The plan as of today is to break camp with 12 pitchers.

Jeff Burwell was claimed off waivers last week so I enter camp with just 2 catchers amongst the 50 players reporting. That cannot be allowed to go much longer. I am on the lookout for a veteran guy who will be ok with AAA playing time.
I am hoping Ramirez hits enough this spring. To be honest, looking back at this winter, it's a need I failed to address.

Ideally the 13 position players would breakdown as 2 C, 6 IF 5 OF.
Right now the IF looks like Barranco (1B), Harris (2B) Klatt (SS) Figueroa (3B) Rodelo (IF) and Rob Turner, Foggie, Stapp, Dusty Barber fighting for that 6th spot. Defensive versatility will be a huge factor.

Rand, Haupt, Hayashi are the locks. Ismael Saldana throws a wrench in the rest, in a good way. I think he'll hit enough to break camp with the big club but if not AAA at bats will be fine. Wherever he starts the year it needs to be playing everyday.
Gilmore, Jim Shelley, Tomiji Takimoto are in the mix as well.
The DH needs to come from the 4 extras in the IF/OF.
