Septemebr 24th-September 29th
Septemebr 24th, 2024: We opened the huge series at Citi Field with Mike Soroka (9-5, 4.81 ERA, 1.32 WHIP) taking on Michael Wacha (7-9, 4.21 ERA, 1.13 WHIP). It was a close one, but we edged them 5-4.
Soroka went 5 innings with 6 hits, a run, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Ben Heller has had a rough start since returning from the DL, allowing 2 runs with a hit and a walk. Michael Feliz, J.P. Gates, Patrick Raby, and Alpha Quivers got holds, and Jorge Moya got the save. It was Gates' debut, and he tossed 0.2 innings with a strikeout. Raby allowed a run in 0.1 innings with 2 hits.
Carlos Soler was 2-for-4 with a 2 run homer. Mickey Moniak was 2-for-4 with a double, triple, walk, and RBI. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 1-for-5 with a double and run scored. Juan Ramirez was 2-for-5 with a run scored.
Mike Smedley was 5-for-5 as his Angels still loss 6-3 to the Astros.
September 24th, 2024: Dodgers SP Ryan Zeferjahn tore his ulnar collateral ligament and will miss the rest of this year and most of next year. He was selected 40th Overall back in 2019, and started 15 games this year. He's 1-3 with a 3.39 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 60 strikeouts in 69 innings.
A.J. Puckett (8-6, 4.01 ERA, 1.20 WHIP) took on Chris Sale (10-4, 4.15 ERA, 1.14 WHIP) in the second game of the series. They scored 5 in the 8th to edge us 9-7.
Mickey Moniak left with an injury...
A.J. Puckett went 5 innings with 6 hits, 4 runs, a walk, and 3 strikeouts. Weske made his MLB debut, tossing 2 innings with 2 hits, a walk, and 4 strikeouts. Jorge Moya allowed 3 runs in 0.2 innings with a hit, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Chasen Shreve finished the 8th and allowed 2 more with 3 hits.
Seth Beer was 3-for-3 with a solo homer, 2 doubles, and 3 total runs scored. Nick Gordon was 2-for-5 with a solo homer. Shoehi Ohtani was 1-for-4 with a 2 run homer and a hit by pitch. Vlad Jr. was 1-for-3 with a sac-fly, run scored, walk, and 2 RBI's.
September 26th, 2024: Luckily, Moniak's injury is minor and he'll be able to play today without worrying about risking re-injury.
We looked to win the series with Jordan Montgomery (10-8, 3.22 ERA, 1.12 WHIP) taking on Rafael Montero (8-5, 3.05 ERA, 1.26 WHIP). Moniak was given the day off, however, to get extra rest. We tried really hard to lose, but escaped with a 5-3 win.
Montgomery was great, 7 innings with 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts, although most of the damage was done in the 8th inning, where he couldn't get an out. Josh Weske earned his 2nd hold in as many days, tossing an inning. Jorge Moya allowed a hit, run, and walk, before Ernesto Estrella earned the save.
Thomas Dillard was 2-for-5 with a homer, double, 2 runs, and 2 RBI's. Juan Ramirez was 2-for-2 with 2 walks, 2 runs, and a two-bagger. He also got a steal. Brendan Rodgers was 2-for-4 with a 2 run double. Nick Gordon was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
We're off to St. Louis to face the 4th Place Cardinals who are just 69-87. We'll see Lenny Torres (8-6, 3.49 ERA), Chris Archer (8-12, 5.02 ERA), and Tyler Beede (7-14, 5.47 ERA) in our last road series of the year.
September 27th, 2024: The Houston Astros have been eliminated from the playoffs. At 80-76, they are 9 out of first. This is the first year they've missed the playoffs since 2016.
The Dodgers are back in the postseason, and have clinched the West. At 89-68, they hold a 6.5 game lead over the Padres.
I transefered Jaheim Meggett to the 60-Day DL to purchase the contract of former 13th Rounder Gunnar Hoglund to prevent him from becoming a minor league free agent. The former 13th Rounder from 2018 is rated a 2.5 potential. Here's what I wrote about him:
"13th Round, 399th Overall: SP Gunnar Hoglund (2.5) He will stay a starter, and has great stuff as well. Sent to GCL."
Wish I expanded a little more...
He's split time between the rotation and the pen this year, with most of the time in New Orleans. He was 5-2 with a 4.64 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 22 games (7 starts). He's got a really nice fastball, a solid curve and slider, and an average change. He can also play a little corner infield.
We started the series in St. Louis with Jake Florence (13-8, 3.74 ERA, 1.35 WHIP) taking on Lenny Torres (8-6, 3.49 ERA, 1.00 WHIP). The Cardinals lineup doesn't have a single player with an overall over three stars, but they managed to beat us 5-2.
Garrett McDaniels left with a finger blister.
Florence allowed 5 runs in 2 innings with 4 hits and 4 walks. The rest of the pen pitched 7 innings with 3 hits, 3 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Alpha Quivers tossed 2.2 perfect innings with 3 strikeouts.
Shoehi Ohtani was 1-for-3 with a walk and solo hoemr. Brendan Rodgers was 2-for-4. Lazaro Armenteros was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
September 28th, 2024: Lot's of playoff updtaes: The Mariners, Reds, and Mets are all in the playoffs.
We looked to even the series up with Walker Buehler (6-8, 4.54 ERA, 1.39 WHIP) taking on Chris Archer (8-12, 5.02 ERA, 1.20 WHIP). We got three in the 10th to take the middle game 6-3.
Buehler went just 5, with 4 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks, and 7 strikeouts. Yasukazu Shiotani allowed a homer to the only hitter he faced. Michael Feliz got the win and Ben Popkin earned the save.
Seth Beer was 2-for-5 with a homer, double, 2 runs, and 2 RBI's. Thomas Dillard was 2-for-4 with 2 doubles, a run, and RBI. Vlad Jr. was 2-for-5 with a double, run scored, and RBI. Seth Beer was 2-for-5 with a double, 2 runs, and 2 RBI's. Shoehi Ohtani was 1-for-4 with a double, runu scored, RBI, and a walk.
September 29th, 2024: The Rangers clinched the playoffs, and trail Seattle by 1.5 games. At 89-68, it'll be their second straight year with a postseason appearence.
We looked to win the series with Mike Soroka (10-5, 4.68 ERA, 1.33 WHIP) taking on Tyler Beede (7-14, 5.47 ERA, 1.41 WHIP). We edged them 3-2 to win our 90th game of the year.
Ben Heller left the game with an injury.
Soroka went 5, allowing 3 hits, 2 runs, a walk, and 7 strikeouts. Heller, Weske, Estrella, Quivers, and Shreve got holds while Jorge Moya earned a save. They combined for 4 innings with a hit, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts.
Vlad Jr. was 3-for-4 with a double, run scored, RBI, steal, and sacrafice fly. Mickey Moniak was 2-for-5 with a run scored and a double. Nick Gordon was 2-for-3 with a walk and steal. Seth Beer was 2-for-5 with an RBI.
There's just 4 games left in the season, and we'll host the 78-80 Cubs. We'd see Justin Dunn (10-9, 5.91 ERA), Shane Greene (5-6, 6.75 ERA), Pablo Ochoa (10-11, 4.44 ERA), and Florencio Serrano (3-2, 3.68 ERA).
