Wild Card Game and Divisional Series

October 5th, 2024: We started the postseason, hosting the Braves in the NL Wild Card game. I really didn't like the matchup, Mike Soroka (11-5, 4.63 ERA, 1.31 WHIP) against Lucas Sims (8-5, 3.62 ERA, 1.09 WHIP). It's shocking considering Sims is on short rest, although I still trust him more then Soroka. I should have had faith in my starter, as we won 3-2.

Soroka must've had an extra incentive in this game, as he could eliminate his former team. He tossed 7 brilliant innings with 4 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Jorge Moya got a 2 inning save in his first postseason appearence. His 84 stamina comes in handy a lot.

Thomas Dillard was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Seth Beer was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Lazaro Armenteros was 1-for-2 hitting and on stolen base attempts, with a walk and run scored.

October 6th, 2024: The Rangers hosted Tampa in the Wild Card game. The Rangers scored 3 in the 7th after starter Brendan McKay left the game with 6 quality innings, and Texas defeated Tampa 4-3.

October 7th, 2024: We arrived in New York for a five game set with the NL East Champion Mets. Jordan Montgomery (11-9, 3.31 ERA, 1.12 WHIP) took on Noah Syndergaard (17-5, 3.15 ERA, 1.03 WHIP). We scored 3 in the 6th en route to a 3-2 series openeing victory.

Montgomery went 5 innings with 3 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Ben Heller and Alpha Quivers got holds and Jorge Moya earned another 2 inning save. Heller struck out the side in the 6th.

Vlad Jr. was 1-for-4 with a 2 run homer. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. As you can see, all the runs we scored came via the longball. Scott Kingery had a pinch hit doule in the 6th and scored on the Jr. homer. Dillard's homer actually came directly after Vlad's.

The Dodgers hosted the Reds in the other NL series. The Dodgers scored early and often and took a 1-0 series lead with a 10-2 win.

October 8th, 2024: We looked to take a commanding 2-0 lead with Walker Buehler (6-8, 4.44 ERA, 1.37 WHIP) battling Michael Wacha (7-10, 4.30 ERA, 1.15 WHIP). The Mets got 3 in the first and bounced back for a 6-1 win.

Buehler pitched just 1 inning, with 2 hits, 3 runs, a walk, and a strikeout. Michael Feliz tossed 2.1 mop up innings with 2 walks and a strikeout. Ben Popkin allowed a run in 1.1 innings with a hit, 3 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Ernesto Estrella allowed 2 hits, including a 2 run homer, and didn't record an out.

We had just 3 hits all game. Lazaro Armenteros was 1-for-3 with an RBI single. He drove in Shoehi Ohtnai, who was also 1-for-3.

It took 12 innings in the other NL game, but the Dodgers walked off winners 4-3 with a bases loaded walk.

Both AL series started today as well. The Twins hosted the Wild Card Rangers, and walked off them in the 11th 7-6. Keston Hiura hit a walk off single. The Mariners hosted the Orioles, and Janisel Rivera launched 2 homers in a 5-4 win.

All four home teams won the series.

October 9th, 2024: The Twins took game two as well, winning 6-5 and will head to Arlington with a commanding 2-0 lead. The Orioles evened the series with a 9-1 win over the Mariners. Benni Vogl launched 2 homers.

October 10th, 2024: Down 2-0, the Rangers lost SP Devon Peterson for the postseason with a torn back muscle. He was 10-13 with a 5.22 ERA in the regular season.

Jake Florence (13-9, 4.04 ERA, 1.41 WHIP) took on Luis Marrero (15-4, 2.81 ERA, 1.17 WHIP) as we hosted game three. Florence is 0-4 with a 7.54 ERA against the Mets this year, so, maybe 5th time's a charm? It was, and we shut them out 4-0, and are 1 game away from another NLCS.

Florence almost went the distance, 8.1 innings with a hit, walk, and 7 strikeouts. He had a no-hitter before Robert Hassell singled with 1 out in the 9th. Moya came in, allowed a single, but then got a fly out and strikeout to end the game.

Shoehi Ohtani was 2-for-4 with a grand slam off Marrero in the 1st. We are really good at scoring off him early. Vlad Jr. was 1-for-4 with a double and run scored. Brendan Rodgers was 1-for-3 with a double, walk, and run scored. Thomas Dillard walked twice, and was 1-for-2 with a run scored.

The Reds bounced back, and scored 11 in a 11-3 win over the Dodgers, as they avoided elimination.

Again, all home teams won...

October 11th, 2024: We looked to advance to the NLCS, with Mike Soroka (11-5, 4.63 ERA, 1.31: 1-0, 2.57 ERA, 1.14 WHIP) taking on Chris Sale. Sale is 3-0, albeit with a 4.59 ERA, against us this year. Seth Beer absotlutely kills him, 12-for-25 with a homer. It took 14 innings before a run was scored, but Austin Hedges walked it off with a pinch-hit RBI single off Francisco Morales.

And just like that, we're a series away from the World Series!

Soroka was excellent, although really everyone was who pitched. He went 6.2 innings with 4 hits, a walk, and 6 strikeouts. The rest of the pen pitched 7.1 innings with 6 hits, 3 walks, and 11 strikeouts. Yasukazu Shiotani struck out the side in the 13th. A.J. Puckett allowed 2 hits in the 14th, but got the win.

We had only 8 hits, but it doesn't matter when you win. Vlad Jr. was 2-for-6 and scored the winning run. Mickey Moniak was 1-for-5 with a double and hit by pitch. Nick Gorodn was 1-for-4 with a walk and steal. Soroka himself was 1-for-2.

We'd face the Dodgers, who scored 4 insurance runs in the 9th to take the finale 9-4.

Looking at the AL, Benni Vogl was 5-for-5 as the O's took a 2-1 lead with a 10-2 win over Seattle. The Rangers avoided elimination with a 5-2 win hosting Minnesota to force a game 4.

October 12th, 2024: With both games at 2-1, both teams down won. Seattle allowed 2 in the 9th, but walked away with a 6-5 win with help from a run in the 8th and 9th. Texas also allowed a run in the 9th, but avoided eliination with a close 3-2 win.

October 13th, 2024: No baseball today...

October 14th, 2024: A pair of game fives took place in the AL. Minnesota rallied for 12 runs to take the finale 12-5. They'd face Baltimore, who scored 1 in the 9th to beat the host Mariners 3-2.
