Free Agency Pt. 1

November 25th, 2024: Free Agents File today! Here's who OSA has as the top 10!

In no perticular order:

LHP Zach Britton
RHP Corey Knebel
RHP Trevor Gott
RHP Jandel Gustave
RHP Thyago Vieira
RHP Edwin Diaz
LF D.J. Stewart
2B Brendan Rodgers
RHP Marcos Molina
3B Rafael Devers

As of now, I have just $7 milliion to spend on 1 year deals, so I doubt I'll be able to spend much. I'll have to re-allocate my resources a little no matter what, but don't expend major Free Agent signigns.

Especially Devers, who wants $69 million, but will probably sign two weeks in for like $30 million per year...

Rodgers wants 3rd most, a more reasonable $25 million per year.

Boston sent 1B Nick Pratto to the Rockies for SS Matt Duffy and SS Josiah Miller. It's a fair deal, but I like this for the Red Sox.

Here's my offseason plan:

1. Either sign/trade for 2 back of the rotation starters or turn Walker Buehler into 2 different starting pitchers.

2. Add a top righty arm for the pen.

3. Find a way to heal Jordan Montgomery so he can pitch Opening Day 2025 not 2026...

November 27th, 2024: The Reds RHP Reyes Moronta has suffered a rehab setback, one that will cost him his career. The 31-year-old pitched 224.2 innings in the majors with the Giants, Indians, Phillies, and Reds, compiling a 4.85 ERA and 1.51 WHIP with 310 strikeouts and a 12-16 record.

November 29th, 2024: The Orioles extended C Chance Sico to a 4-year, $94,800,000 extension. In his career, he's hit .268/.355/.418 with 358 HR's and 825 RBI's. It's a bit pricey, but good catching is hard to come across.

Houston sent RHP Riley Ferrell and RHP Joel Keith to the Cardinals for 2B Max Schrock. It's a steal for the Cardinals.

December 1st, 2024: I casted my Hall of Fame ballot today:

CF Carlos Beltran
1B Jason Giambi
LF Matt Holliday
C Victor Martinez
C Joe Mauer
CL Francisco Rodriguez
SS Jimmy Rollins
RF Ichiro Suzuki
CL Billy Wanger
SP C.C. Sabathia

I'm guessing Beltran and Ichiro both get in, as they had over 70%. Mauer and V-Mart should get in too, although it might be next years.

December 3rd, 2024: The Dodgers made a big splash, signing SP Jose Quintana to a 3-year, $67.8 million contract. With the White Sox, Cubs, and Astros, he's a career 133-108 pitcher with a 3.41 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 2,084 strikeouts in 2,315 innings.

The Tigers made an interesting signing, grabbing RHP Cliff Merritt to a 2-year, $4,840,000 per year deal despite the fact he's never played in the majors. The Former 2020 4th Round Pick of the White Sox is rated a 3/3.5, but has injyr problems.

December 5th, 2024: The Brewers traded 3B Jose Tortolero to the Phillies for RHP Ryan Burr and RF Ignacio Apodaca. This is just a really werid trade...

December 6th, 2024: Here's a really weird trade I made, that I don't like, but at the same time I'm getting the type of player I want, but I'll then need to trade to add another player. It's confusing, but in the long run, it should make sense.

1st, it's really hard to trade for SP, esepcially young, good ones, so I acquired 24-year-old Steve Paustian from the Giants for SS NicK Gordon and RF Carlos Soler. So yeah, I kind of traded my starting SS and I don't really have a replacement, yet.

Here me out: Paustian is a 3/4.5 who is controllable all the way until 2030. He can jump right into the rotation, and gives me the best 5th starter in the league if Montgomery was healthy. He's got 93 stamina, and three plus-plus pitches. The former 3rd Rouunder from 2019 was 9-10 with a 4.48 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in his rookie season with the Giants last season.

I now need a SS, but that's a lot easier to acquire then a top SP.

December 10th, 2024: The Red Sox signed JoJo Romero to a 4-year, $32.5 million contract. The longtime Philly is a career 47-50 with a 4.07 ERA and 1.29 WHIP.

The Nationals have acquired C Jeremy Martinez and 1B Eddie Haden from Toronto for RHP Erling Moreno. It's a steal for the Jays, and hopefully the Nats won't compete this year...

December 11th, 2024: I made a huge blockbuster with the Phillies that I may or may not regret later. I acquired young, superstar SS Isaac Nunez for LF Adam Haseley, RHP Jimmy Sherfy, and LHP Josh Weske. I'm really going to miss Weske, but Nunez is the real deal.

He had a bit of a down year offensively, but he's just 24 and has amazing hit tools. He's got insane speed, one of the best gloves in the league, and puts 150% effort into every play. He's rated a 3.5/5, and is exactly what we needed. He's also controllable until 2029.

It was a busy day around the league, as the Braves extended 1B Freddie Freeman to a 3-year, $26.4 million per year deal, with the final a 135 game vesting option. Now 35, the Brave slugger has a .286/.383/.511 triple slash with 382 hoemrs and 1,232 RBI's.

Another big slugger in 1B Joey Gallo extended with the Rangers, 6-years, $39.5 million per year deal, with the final a 135 game vesting option. The longtime Ranger has a career .231/..352/.531 line with 383 HR's and 886 RBI's.

Lastly, the Cubs signed CF Anthony Alford to a 4-year, $10.9 million per year contract. The former Marlin is a career .243/.335/.399 hitter with 99 homers, 373 RBI's, and 147 steals.

And tomorrow starts the Winter Meetings, although nothing can top today...

December 12th, 2024: The Winter Meetings did have action for the openeing day:

The Mariners signed 1B Paul Goldschmidt to a 3-year, $30.9 million deal with the final year a 135 game vesting option, which seems to be the go to for 1B. Goldy returned to Seattle, but hasn't been his star self since 2020.

The Reds traded CF Jerrion Ealy to the Phillies for LHP Dave Schultz and RHP Ignacio Hinojos. This deal is an absolute steal for the Reds, as Hinojos is way better then the other two, and I wish I had him.

Baltimore sent CF Emekak Longs, LHP Tommy Haddoz, and RHP Camden Schanowski to the Pirates for RHP Nick Burdi. For some reason, Baltimore wants him to start, although they still get a decent deal here.

The Angels sent RHP Christian Scott to Tampa for SS Wander Samuel Franco and LHP Ben Harris. I like this deal for my in-state rival.

Lastly, the Phillies traded 3B Kyle Seager to the Braves for LHP Keivn Populus and RHP Leudy Martinez. I like this deal for the Phillies.

I purchased the contract of SP Marc Bjork to protect him from the Rule-5 Draft.

December 13th, 2024: Philly keeps making deals, sending RF Bryce Harpert to the Red Sox for LHP Ryan Lynch, SS Josiah Miller, and 2B Zachariah Bowlby. I feel like they could've gotten much more for Big Daddy Bryce, and the offer I sent them in July was much better for them.

The Pirates sent C Brad Debo and 1B Mike McMillan to the Rangers for Anderson A. Tejada. I like this deal for both teams.

December 14th, 2024: Today was anothe rreally busy day, as I really like how the Winter Meetings have turned out this year.

The Red Sox and Phillies made a "Part 2" of the Harper trade, with Jackie Bradely Jr. going to Phialdelphia for RHP Corey Walter. It's basically a salary dump.

The Blue Jays traded RHP Carlos Martinez to the Dodgers for 3B Nolan Arrenado in a big name deal. I like this deal for both teams.

The Phillies keep dealing, sending LF Corenlius Randolph to Colorado for RHP Mashiaro Tanaka. New Phillies GM Sean Coughlin has his trade frequency maxed out.

The Cubs sent C Wilson Contreras and cash to the Padres for RHP Carlo Salazar and RHP Justin Jarvis. I like this deal for both teams.

Lastly, Oaklkand snet RHP Joe Bernal and 3B Thomas Keehn to the Rangers for 2B Nasim Nunez and 3B Yenci Pena. It's a good trade for both sides.

I think the AI is finally out-trading me now...

December 15th, 2024: The crazy Winter Meetings ended today.

The Dodgers signed RHP Adrodys Vizcaino to a 1-year, $3 million contract. This marks his 7th team in 7 seasons. He's a career 3.54 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP in 501 innings.

The Mariners sent RHP Josh Wolf to the Phillies for LF D.J. Wilson. This is a steal for the Phillies. Between Dipoto and Coughlin, we'll see a lot of trades.

December 16th, 2024: The Dodgers signed LHP Jose Torres to a 1-year, $5.5 million contract. He spent the 2016-2024 with San Diego and Milwaukee, accumulating 405.2 innings with a 3.68 ERA and 1.23 WHIP.

December 19th, 2024: I traded C Nick Feight to the A's for RHP A.J. Labas.

Labas, 26, is a former 2020 4th Rounder, and rated a 2/2.5 as a RP. He can pitch out of the rotation and has 4 decent pitches. He's not a big piece, but a nice depth option. I also purchased the contract of C Jake Taylor from AAA.

December 21st, 2024: The Blue Jays sent LF Bob Matthews to the Tigers for RHP Jaime Barria and RHP Elian Pena. I like this deal for Toronto.

Toronto made another deal, sending 2B Reizo Honda and LHP Josh Cronin to the Dodgers for RHP C.J. Jorgensen. It's a pretty good deal for both teams, although I'm not sure why LA is willing to part with Jorgensen.

The Pirates sent RHP Tanner Anderson to the Astros for SS Hector Leon, C Segio Elizalde, and SS Austin Shultz. This is a really good deal for the Pirates.

December 24th, 2024: Today is the Rule-5 Draft!

I lost 2B Logan Forsythe to the Rays, althoug I'm not at all mad about that.

I selected RF Austin Hendrick from the Rockies to be my 4th OF. The former 1st Rounder back in 2020, the lefty has an absolute cannon, and great speed. He's going to hit a lot of doubles, and has an overall solid bat. He's rated a 2.5/3.5 and can play all 3 spots, although he needs a little work in center.

December 26th, 2024: The Indians signed Carter Capps to a 1-year, $2,760,000 contract. After three years with the Cubs that didn't go as planned, he'll hope to rebound in the AL.

The Mariners signed LF Eloy Jimenez to a 3-year, $26.2 million deal. He was a Mariner during the regular season, but deided to return after a little over a month in free agency. He's a career .281/.322/.538 hitter with 185 homers and 552 RBI's.

The Royals traded LF Danny Contreras to the White Sox for SP Dane Dunning. I like this deal for the Sox, although you can never have too much pitching.

December 28th, 2024: I added a nice option to my pen in RHP Dylan Cease. He's a bit fragile, but still rated a 4*. Cease has spent time as a starter, but his best performance came out of the pen last year with the Red Sox. He'll work the 8th inning, coming off a season with a 2.27 ERA and 1.01 WHIP and 54 strikeouts in 35.2 innings.

December 29th, 2024: The Mariners signed LHP Matt Purke to a 1-year, $4,440,000 contract to be their closer. He's a career 32-26 with a 3.77 ERA and 1.33 WHIP.

The Jays signed CL Trevor Gott to a 3-year, $69.6 million contract. After spending the past 5+ years as the Dodgers closer, he'll move to the AL. In his career, he's earned 185 saves and struck out 609 hitters in 586.1 innings. The former Angel, National, Brave, and Dodger owns a career 3.02 ERA and 1.19 WHIP.

Dececmber 30th, 2024: Brendan Rodgres signed a 6-year, $145,400,000 contract with the Cardinals, which nets us a compensation pick. Te 28-year-old is a career .269/.338/.433 hitter wtih 113 homers and 407 RBI's with us and the Rockies.

The Astros signed SP Marcos Moilna to a 4-year, $18.2 million per year contract. With the Mets and Phillies, he was 66-56 with a 3.70 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 1,012.1 innings with 735 strikeouts and 287 walks.

See you next year!
