April 3rd-April 10th
April 3rd, 2025: Happy Opening Day! The preseason predictions have us at 97-65, the best record in the NL, second to just Baltimore of the AL. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is ranked the 2nd top hitter.
LHP Esteban Aguirre of the Reds is ranked the #1 prospect in baseball. 4.5* potential SS Rogerlio Maldonado is our top prospect, ranked at #4. I signed him back in 2023 for a $4,480,000 bonus, and he'll start in the DSL this year. We have the 14th farm system overall, with last year's 4th Round pick C.J. Vick ranked 89th and 2B Tristan Hanoian 146th.
The Rangers signed LHP Grant Dayton to a $2.6 million contract. The Mets signed RHP Nick Goody to a $3,120,000 contract.
We start the season tomorrow, hosting the Padres and MacKenzie Gore. We have an off day the 5th, and will then see Chris Rodriguez and John Creel.
April 4th, 2025: The Dodgers signed former Marlin Drew Steckenrider to a 1-year, $2,840,000 contract. The Blue Jays signed RHP Julian Fernandez to a 1-year, $2,720,000 contract.
We started our year as defended champions with Walker Buehler facing MacKenzie Gore and the Padres in a sold out Marlins Park that hasn't seen a game since game two of the World Series. Our lineup was LF Armenteros, 2B Hardamon, 3B Guerrero Jr., 1B Beer, SS Nunez, RF Ohtani, C Dillard, CF Moniak, P Buehler. All players are 3.5 and up overall. This team looks legit! It was a high scorer, and we allowed 6 in the 7th, to fall behind 9-8. We got 1 in the 8th, and we walked it off in the 10th, 10-9 for a thrilling opener.
Dylan Cease left with an injury in his Marlins debut, allowing 2 runs in 0.2 innings with a hit, walk, and strikeout.
Buehler went 5, allowing 2 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Slade Cecconi allowed a run, hit, walk, and strikeout in the 6th, Ben Popkin was charged with 3 runs with 2 walks and 2 hits without getting an out. Jorge Moya got the win, 2 innings with a hit and 2 strikeouts.
Thomas Dillard was 2-for-4 with a solo homer, triple, 2 runs scored, and a walk. Lazaro Armenteros was 1-for-4 with a solo homer, 2 runs, and a hit by pitch. Shoehi Ohtani was 1-for-3 with a pair of sac fly's, a two run homer, and 4 total RBI's. Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-5 with a double. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-5 with an RBI, 2 runs, and a steal.
April 5th, 2025: The Padres signed RHP Dellin Betances to a 1-year, $5.5 million deal. I was in on him before the price tage rose up past $3.5 million.
The Blue Jays signed Cuban Free Agents Sergio Morales to a $8,000,000 contract. With no experience, his contract will be renewed at this ammount until he reaches arbritation.
April 6th, 2025: Cease just has a sore thumb, and will be back for today's game.
Jake Florence took on Chris Rodriguez in game two of the season. The Padres got 6 runs in the first two innings and took the middle game 7-3.
Florence went 2 innings, allowing 6 hits and 7 runs with 2 walks, and it wasn't quite the start he was hoping for. Ramon Perez tossed 4 mop up innings with 2 hits and 7 strikeouts, an impressive Marlins debut for the 25-year-old.
Mickey Moniak was 3-for-4 and a triple away from the cycle. He got a steal, and his homer was a 2-run shot. Seth Beer was 2-for-4 with a double and solo homer.
The White Sox CF Blake Rutherford hit 3 homers in a 13-4 win over the Twins.
April 7th, 2025: I claimed RHP Domingo German off waivers, and optioned Ceccioni to AAA. German has pitched sparingly, appearing in 2017, 2018, and 2023, but is rated as a 2.5 releiver. He's got a starter arsenal and stamina, but I like him more as a long man.
The openeing Power Rankings have us at 17th.
We looked to win the openeing series with Steve Paustian taking on Adrian Morejon. After allowing 2 in the 8th, we finished the first 9 at a 3-3 tie. It took until the 16th, before Lazaro Armenteros hit a walk off double of Felix Jorge.
Paustian had a nice Marlins debut, 5.2 innings with 4 hits, a run, 2 walks, and 9 strikeouts. Dylan Cease blew the save, 2 runs and 2 hits with a strikeout in 0.2 innings. Domingo German tossed 3 shutout innings in his debut, with a hit, walk, and 2 strikeouts. Ben Popkin got the win, 4 innings with 3 hits, a walk, and 3 strikeouts.
Deshawn Hardamon was 3-for-5 with a solo homer. Thomas Dillard was 2-for-5 with a double and 2 hit by pitches. Armenteros was 1-for-5 with the game winner and 2 walks. Austin Hendrick came off the bench and went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
The Mets come to town, and we'd see Chris Sale, Luis Marrero, and Noah Syndergaard (0-0, 1.23 ERA). The Mets have started hot, 3-0 to begin the year.
April 8th, 2025: I took a gamble and claimed SS Jon Reid off waivers. He's a 0.5/3.5 with an amazing glove at short. He's got 100 range and great speed, to go with a solid bat. I'd option Cole Roederer to AAA to make room.
The Blue Jays signed Zach Britton to a 1-year, $4,880,000 contract.
Mike Soroka took on Chris Sale in the opener against the Mets. He'd have to watch out for Mets star Gregorio Alvarenga, who's 17-for-38 against him. The Mets got 4 in the 9th, and we got 2 in the bottom half, but we dropped the opener 7-3.
Soroka went 8.1 innings, allowing 8 hits, 5 runs (2 earned), 2 walks, and 7 strikeouts. German allowed 2 in 0.1 innings with 2 hits. Armenteros was 2-for-4 with a solo homer. Shoehi Ohtani was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
April 9th, 2025: We looked to bounce back with Dinelson Lamet facing Luis Marrero. Marrero is a shell of his former self, a 1.5* pitcher after looking like the best player in the game. We scored 2 in the 9th to tie the game at 5, but allowed a bases loaded walk in the 11th to drop the second game 6-5.
Lamet allowed 3 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts in 5 innings. Dylan Cease tossed 2 innings with 3 strikeouts. Alpha Quivers allowed 2 runs, a hit, and walk without getting an out. Jorge Moya got the loss, 2 innings with 3 hits, a run, 3 walks, and 2 strikeouts.
Deshawn Hardamon was 3-for-6 with a double, homer, run scored, and 3 RBI's. Rule-5 pick Austin Hendrick was 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored, a walk, and steal in his first career start. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-4 with a walk, solo homer, and 2 runs scored. Lazaro Armenteros was 3-for-6 with a double and RBI.
Braves 1B Freddie Freeman hit three homers in a 7-5 win over the Twins.
April 10th, 2025: The Rays will be without RHP Glenn Otto for the year with a torn rotator cuff. He walked the only batter he faced this year.
We looked to avoid the sweep with Walker Buehler (0-0, 3.60 ERA, 1.20 WHIP) taking on Noah Syndergaard (0-0, 1.23 ERA, 0.95 WHIP). The pitching was great, and we shut the Mets out 2-0 to salvage the finale.
Buehler allowed just 1 hit and 2 walks in 7 innings with 10 strikeouts. Alpha Quivers got a hold, strking out all 4 batters he faced, and Jorge Moya got the last two outs for the save.
Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-3 with a double. Mickey Moniak was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Isaac Nunez and Lazaro Armenteros were 1-for-3 with a run and steal. Buehler was 1-for-2 with a sacrafice bunt.
Well, it's not how I wanted to start the year, 3-3 at home, but it's time to hit the road. We're off to Atlanta for three before a day off. We'd see Lucas Sims (0-1, 15.00 ERA), Chris Helmick (0-1, 5.40 ERA), and Tyler Glasnow (0-1, 7.20 ERA).
Before I finish this, I wanted to take a quick peek back at my draft classes and players in the majors (or who have played).

Callihan looks like a star, and Weske has great starter potential, but a lot of these guys are more role players then anything. Estrella does have great stuff out of the pen as well.
