May 11th-May 17th

May 11th, 2018: We hosted Tampa for the start of a three game series with Kevin Gausman (5-1, 4.17 ERA, 1.29 WHIP) taking on Blake Snell (1-3, 3.41 ERA, 1.49 WHIP). We scored 2 in the 8th to tie the game at 5, and it stayed tied through 9. The Rays got three in the 10th, and took the opener 8-5.

Mychal Givnes was overused, and left with injury. He went 4.1 innings with 3 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Gausman struggled, 5 runs in 5 innings with 10 hits and 6 strikeouts.

Mark Trumbo went 3-for-4 with a pair of solo homers and a walk. Max Stassi was 1-for-4 with a solo homer, walk, and steal. Mike Yastrzemski was 1-for-4 with a solo homer and walk. Adam Jones was 2-for-5 with a walk, double, and run. Jonathan Schoop was 3-for-4 with a sac bunt.

Down in AAA, Austin Hays went 5-for-6 in a 11-6 Tides win over the Stripers.

Down further in Delmarva, CF Ryan McKenna went 5-for-7 in a 20-2 win over the Lexington Legends.

May 12th, 2018: We looked to bounce back with Mike Wright (3-0, 1.94, 1.15 WHIP) facing Ryan Yarbrough (0-2, 7.71 ERA, 2.11 WHIP). We scored 3 in the 1st and 4 in the 6th to take the middle game 7-6.

Wright pitched fine, 5 innings with 6 hits, 3 runs, a walk, and 3 strikeout. Jhan Marinez allowed 2 runs in 0.1 innings. Richard Belier allowed 1 in the 8th off 3 hits. Brad Brach struck out the side in the 9th to earn his 6th save.

Jonathan Schoop was 1-for-4 with a three run homer. Manny Machado was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Mark Trumbo was 2-for-3 with a two run homer and RBI double. Trey Mancini was 1-for-3 with 2 runs scored and a walk.

May 13th, 2018: Givens is okay, and can resume play immediately.

We looked to take the series with Alex Cobb (1-1, 3.42 ERA, 1.14 WHIP) taking on Yonny Chirinos (1-1, 7.04 ERA, 1.48 WHIP). The pitching struggled, and we dropped the finale 8-4.

Cobb and Darren O'Day both left with injury. O'Day is pending, while Cobb will head to the DL with back tightness.

Cobb went just 2, with 5 hits and 3 runs. Bruce Rondon allowed 2 in 0.2 innings with 3 hits, 2 walks, and a strikeout. O'Day allowed 3 in 3.1 with 4 hits, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.

Trey Mancini was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, and run scored. Ruben Tejada was 1-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI's. Mark Trumbo was 1-for-4 with a run scored and RBI.

I recalled Gabriel Ynoa from his rehab assignment. He'll be the new #5 starter while Cobb heals.

We got tomorrow off before Philadelphia comes to town.

May 14th, 2018: Frederick 3B Jomar Reyes was named Carolina League Player of the Week, going 12-for-27 with 3 homers and 6 RBI's.

The Dodgers will be without the always injured LHP Rich Hill for the year with a torn ulnar collateral ligament. Hill started the year 2-3 with a 4.34 ERA.

The Power Rankings have us at 15th

The 25-16 Phillies ome to town for two, and we'd see Jerad Eickhoff and Mark Leiter Jr. (1-0, 6.28 ERA).

May 15th, 2018: O'Day was diagnoses with a sprained ankle, and is headed to the DL for about 2 weeks. I activated Anthony Santander from his rehab assignment.

We opened the series with Jerad Eickhoff making his season debut against Andrew Cashner (1-4, 5.45 ERA, 1.71 WHIP). Despite allowing 2 in the 9th, we walked away with the 6-4 win.

Jonathan Schoop left with back stiffness, and will be DTD for 5 days.

May 16th, 2018: The Indians traded RHP Shane Beiber and RHP Micah Miniard to the White Sox for CL Joakim Soria and cash. I like this deal for both teams.

We looked for the quick sweep with Dylan Bundy (1-1, 4.00 ERA, 1.14 WHIP) facing Jake Arrieta (3-1, 2.48 ERA, 1.15 WHIP). We scored runs in the 7th, 8th, and 9th to bring it into extras, and Trey Mancini hit a 2-run shot off Pat Neshek to walk off 6-4 winners.

Bundy went 4.1 with 5 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Enny Romero allowed a run and 2 hits in 0.1 innings. Bruce Rondon got the win, 2 innings with 2 hits, a walk, and 4 strikeouts.
