April 18th-April 24th
April 18th, 2025: Dylan Cease is headed to the DL with a sore elbow, and will miss about 2 weeks. I recalled Patrick Raby to replace him on the active roster.
We started a four game series in Atlanta with Steve Paustian (0-1, 5.79 ERA, 1.50 WHIP) taking on Jean-Christopher Hernandez (1-1, 16.43 ERA, 2.22 WHIP) in a game we should win. Instead, Arizona edged us 4-2 to take the opener.
Paustian went 6 innings, allowing 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and he recorded 4 strikeouts. Alpha Quivers allowed a hit and run with two strikeouts.
Lazaro Armenteros was 1-for-3 with a walk, steal, and solo homer. Shoehi Ohtani was 1-for-4 with an RBI double. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 1-for-3 with a walk and run scored.
April 19th, 2025: We looked to get back on track with Mike Soroka (0-2, 3.86 ERA, 1.21 WHIP) facing former Marlin Jameson Taillon (1-0, 3.18 ERA, 1.24 WHIP). We allowed 4 in the 7th and dropped this one as well, 6-3.
Soroka allowed 4 runs in 6 innings with 7 hits, 4 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Cliff Merritt allowed 2 runs, a hit, and a walk, without getting an out. Chasen Shreve struck out both batters he faced.
Shoehi Ohtani was 2-for-4 with a run and RBI. Lazaro Armenteros was 1-for-4 with a 2-run double in the 9th. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 1-for-4 with a double and run scored. Thomas Dillard walked three times and scored once in four plate appearences.
April 20th, 2025: Today was a must-win, as Dinelson Lamet (0-0, 3.38 ERA, 1.22 WHIP) took on Scott Gingery (0-2, 6.55 ERA, 1.27 WHIP). Today was much better, and we got back in the win collum with a 4-1 victory.
Lamet was excellent, 6 innings with 5 hits and 7 strikeouts. Patrick Raby made his season debut with 2 scorless innings and a strikeout. Jorge Moya allowed 3 hits and a run in the 9th, while also recording a strikeout.
Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-4 with a double. Austin Hedges was 1-for-4 with an RBI double. Lazaro Armenteros was 3-for-4 with a run scored and RBI. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Rockies 2B Vidal Brujan extended his hit streak to 20 games.
April 21st, 2025: Down in Jacksonville, former 2nd Rounder Tristan Hanoian was named player of the week, going 13-for-25 with 2 homers, 8 RBI's, and 4 runs scored.
At 7-8, we moved up to 19th in the Power Rankings, although this is not where we should be, because we have much more talent then we've showed. I'm not disputing the ranking, it's the performance.
We looked to earn the split with Walker Buehler (2-0, 1.53 ERA, 0.85 WHIP) taking on Zack Linginfelter (0-1, 8.31 ERA, 1.73 WHIP). It took 10 innings, but we got three in the top half to escape with a 4-1 victory.
Buehler went 8 innings, allowing just 3 hits, 1 walk, and 8 strikeouts to lower his season ERA to 1.05. Moya allowed the run off 2 walks, a hit, and 2 strikeouts. Alpha Quivers tried to get the last out, but allowed a hit. He ended up with then win, going 1.1 innings with a hit and 3 strikeouts.
Shoehi Ohtani went 3-for-5 wiht a solo homer in the first, a double, 2 runs, and 2 RBI's. Vlad Jr. was 1-for-4 with a 2 run double in the 10th. Mickey Moniak was 1-for-4 with a walk and run scored.
Freddie Freeman hit three homers in a 12-4 Braves win over the Pirates. In the same game, Kyle Seager got his 2,000th career hit.
We're headed back home to face the surprise 9-6 Phillies. We'd see Sixto Sanchez (0-0, 3.60 ERA), Mashiaro Tanaka (2-1, 3.12 ERA), and our former 1st Rounder Josh Weske (1-1, 3.86 ERA).
April 22nd, 2025: Jake Florence (1-1, 6.92 ERA, 1.77 WHIP) got the ball in the opener as we hosted Sixto Sanchez (0-0, 3.60 ERA, 1.07 WHIP) and the Phillies in a sold out Marlins Park. The cold Seth Beer has good history with Sanchez, 7-for-20 with 3 homers. We headed into the 9th 2-1, but another former 1st Rounder of mine Tyler Callihan hit a solo home run of Alpha Quivers. In the bottom half, Shoehi Ohtani got an RBI single off Jimmy Sherfy and we walked off 3-2 winners.
Florence was great, 7 innings with 2 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and 6 strikeouts. Quivers went 1.2 innings with a hit, run and 2 strikeouts. Chasen Shreve got the last out of th e9th with a 1 pitch ground out, and ended up with the win.
The hero Ohtani was 3-for-5 with a triple and the RBI single. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-4 with a double, run, and RBI. Florence himself was 1-for-2
Angels RF Mike Smedley hit for the cycle in a 10-7 win over the Indians.
April 23rd, 2025: We looked to win our third in a row with Steve Paustian (0-2, 5.28 ERA, 1.30 WHIP) taking on Mashiaro Tanaka (2-1, 3.12 ERA, 1.15 WHIP). It's funny, the Phillies top three hitters (Callihan, Adam Haseley, and Ernesto Arambula) are all former Marlins. Both teams got four in the first, and we escaped with an 8-7 win.
Paustian had a rough outing, 3 innings with 4 hits, 5 runs, 6 walks, and 3 striikeouts. Ramon Perez allowed an unearned run in 2.1 innings with 2 hits and 2 strikeouts. Ernesto Estrella got the win, 1.2 innings with 2 hits, a run, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Chasen Shreve and Jorge Moya got holds and Patrick Raby got the save. Shreve struck out the side in the 8th.
Ohtani had another great game, as he looks to improve his free agent profile. He was a triple away from the cycle, and he drove in three runs. Seth Beer had a much needed great game, 3-for-4 with a solo homer and 2 total runs scored. Austin Hedges was 1-for-3 with a solo homer and sacrafice fly. Mickey Monaik was 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored. Former Phillie Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4 with a 2 run double.
Cubs SS Mac Horvath improved his hit streak to 20 games.
Aptil 24th, 2025: It's a minor deal, but Marcell Ozuna, now 34, rejoined the team on a minor league deal. He last played with us in 2017, and is a career .270/.324/.459 hitter with 217 homers and 760 RBI's.
We looked to finish the sweep with Mike Soroka (0-3, 4.50 ERA, 1.40 WHIP) facing his former teammate Josh Weske (1-1, 3.86 ERA, 1.10 WHIP). We scored 4 in the 6th, and won another 1-run game 7-6, despite only having 6 hits.
Soroka allwoed 3 (1 earned) in 6 innings with 9 hits, a walk, and 5 strikeouts. Ohtani allowed 2 in an inning with 2 hits, 2 walks, and a strikeout. Ernesto Estrella earned a hold, striking out 1 in the 8th, and Jorge Moya got the save. Moya allowed a run off 2 htis with 2 strikeouts in the 9th.
Lazaro Armenteros was 3-for-4 with a two run homer off Weske and 2 total runs scored. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-3 with 2 runs, 2 RBI's, a walk, and a homer off Weske. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with a triple, run scored, and 2 RBI's.
Now just 3 games out, we get tomorrow off to get recharged!
