Wow. Astute readers may remember Dave Weller's name after last year at Clovis. He was our 7th rounder in our 1st Entry Draft back in 2005 out of Minnesota. Looking back he was not a power prospect by any means. But, here's his progression. Hobbs .311-12-41 64 games, Farmington .273-29-106 118 games, Clovis 280-39-129 in 129 games and yesterday he went 3-5 at Alamogordo hitting 2 homers. He's hitting just .208 in 12 games but has 5 HR and 8 RBI. Did I mention he's stolen 42 bases as a minor leaguer? He's got elite speed.
One of my shortlisted guys in the 2006 draft was an outfielder out of Cal, Eric Barrios. Minnestota took him 6th overall. Yesterday he went 3-4 hitting 3 home runs in a AA game. In 12 games at AA he's hitting .566 (30-53) with 11 HR's and 25 RBI's. Came into '08 as the 52nd rated prospect
Chris Beard (SAN) went 5-6 with 2 2B a Grand Slam (4) and 4 RBI's in a 12-5 win over San Diego
