LANCERS CLEAN HOUSE 40 GAMES IN
Portland's 13-27 start was apparently enough for owner Luis Verdin as GM Tim Noble and Manager Mike Sarbaugh were fired today. Noble was in his 6th season as GM of the Lancers after 13 years away from the game. He was the Milwaukee Hawks GM in the ABA's inaugural 1990 season.
Sarbaugh spent 14 years managing the Leon Bravos, winning the Mexican League Championship and manager of the year in 2001. He came to the ABA in 2004 as the Saints bench coach, where they won it all that year and was hired just prior to this season on a 4-year deal. His firing came as a shock to baseball people around the league as he's always had a great reputation on and off the field. No replacements have been named for either slot.
The Lancers have made the playoffs just 2 seasons in their 19-year existence. They've never won the division and have finished in 3rd place or lower in 16 of the 19 years in the ABA.
