May 23rd-May 29th
May 23rd, 2025: Dinelson Laet will head to AAA New Orleans to begin a rehab assignment.
Mike Soroka (2-5, 3.63 ERA, 1.37 WHIP) took on Michael Feliz (0-3, 6.00 ERA, 1.97 WHIP) in the opener back home. The team is really tired, and most of our bench is starting today. Even then, we shut the Cubs out 6-0.
Soroka went 7.1 innings with 3 hits, a walk, and 2 strikeouts. He was also 1-for-3 with an RBI.Ramon Perez and Luis Ardon combined for 1.2 innings with a hit and 2 strikeouts.
Seth Beer was 2-for-4 with a solo homer. Scott Kingery was 1-for-4 with a run scored, RBI, and double. Mickey Moniak was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Austin Hendrick was 1-for-4 with 2 RBI's.
May 24th, 2025: The Rockies recieved RF Jordan Prendiz, RHP Eric Warren, and RHP Ben Hall from the Twins for SS Lucius Fox. I like the haul for the Rockies.
Shoehi Ohtani (1-0, 3.06 ERA, 0.91 WHIP) got the start against Jorge Flores (5-0, 2.93 ERA, 1.12 WHIP) in the second game of the series. Our top three hitters are hot and the bottom three (not counting Ohtani) are cold. The Cubs got 4 in the eigth and evened the series with a 8-5 win.
Ohtani was decent, 5 innings with a hit, 5 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Estrella allowed 2 in 0.2 innings with 2 hits and a strikeout. Patrick Raby allowed a run off 2 hits in 1.1 innings. Ben Popkin got the loss, 0.2 innings with 5 hits and 4 runs. Luis Ardon allowed a run in 1.1 innings with 2 htis and 2 strikeouts.
Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-5 with a double, homer, run, and 2 RBI's. Lazaro Armenteros was 1-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI's. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with a double and run scored. Scott Kingery was 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI.
May 25th, 2025: Walker Buehler will begin rehab in AAA. He'd get 1 start before returning.
The Twins traded RHP Joe LaBrie to the Mariners for 1B Andy Bostic and C Dominic Keegan. It's an even enough trade, although my former player in LaBrie is the best of the three.
We looked to win the series before a much needed day off. Salde Cecconi (1-0, 3.75 ERA, 1.00 WHIP) took on Pablo Ochoao (4-4, 2.83 ERA, 1.01 WHIP) in the rubber match. The Cubs edged us 3-2 to finish the series.
Cecconi allowed 2 runs in 5 innings off 4 hits and 6 strikeouts, Quivers got the loss, a solo homer and 2 strikeouts in the 8th inning.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 2-for-4 with a solo homer and 2 runs scored. Mickey Moniak was 1-for-5 with a double. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Shoehi Ohtani had a pinch hit double in the fifth.
May 26th, 2025: Down in AAA, Juan Ramirez won Player of the Week, hitting .391 with 3 homers and 6 RBI's.
We're up to 7th in the Power Rankings at 27-20 and 2 games out of first.
SS Lency Delgado is out for the year with a torn latissimus dorsi muscle. He was hitting just .124 in 105 at bats this year.
All-Star voting starts today, and the team could rest at home before hosting the Nationals for three. We'd see Jay Groome (2-5, 7.75 ERA), Jacob Heatherley (1-2, 4.91 ERA), and Gage Hinsz (5-1, 3.49 ERA).
May 27th, 2025: Marcos Diplan is out for the year with a ruptured ulnar collateral ligament. He was having a rough year for Milwaukee, with 44 hits and 34 strikeouts in 30.1 innings to go with a 8.90 ERA and 0-5 record out of the pen.
I optioned Ernesto Estrella to AAA and recalled Walker Buehler.
The now rested team started the series hosting the Nationals with Jake Florence (2-4, 6.02 ERA, 1.66 WHIP) battling Jay Groome (2-5, 7.75 ERA, 1.84 WHIP). It was an awful game, and we dropped the opener 16-9.
Florence allowed 3 runs in 5 innings with 7 hits and 2 strikeouts. I was afraid he's the one that did back, but luckliy it wasn't. Patrick Raby allowed 4 runs in 0.2 innings with 4 hits and got the loss. Luis Ardon allowed 2 runs and a hit without getting an out. Popkin allowed 2 runs, a hit, and a walk, without getting an out. Ramon Perez allowed 5 runs off 3 hits and 2 walks without getting an out.
Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-4 with a solo homer and sac fly. Seth Beer was 2-for-4 with a double, homer, walk, 2 runs, and 3 RBI's. Mickey Moniak was 3-for-5 with 2 triples, a double, 2 runs, and a RBI. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-5 with an RBI double. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI. Shoehi Ohtani was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Side note: our entire division is over .500, with the last place Phillies 25-23.
May 28th, 2025: A pair of players will be out for the year with injury. RHP Sean Hjelle stretched his elbow ligament and LHP Steve Atkins tore his labrum.
We looked to bounce back with Steve Paustian (2-3, 3.93 ERA, 1.41 WHIP) taking on Jacob Heatherly (1-2, 4.91 ERA, 1.49 WHIP). We got 10 in the eigth after being down 3-2, and won 12-3.
Paustian went 5.2 innings with 7 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks, and 7 strikeouts. Chasen Shreve allowed a run and didn't get an out, but allowed a hit..
Seth Beer was 3-for-4 with a RBI double and solo homer. Mickey Moniak was 2-for-5 with a run, 3 RBI's, a steal, and double. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 3-for-5 with a steal, 3 runs, and an RBI. Shoehi Ohtani was 1-for-4 with a run scored, double, walk, and RBI. Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-5 with a run. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-3 with a walk, run, RBI, and double.
Freddie Freeman hit his 400th career hoemr as the Braves still fell to the Phillies 5-2. The 35-year-old is hitting .312/.411/.685 in one of, if not the best, season of his career.
May 29th, 2025: The first round of All-Star voting has Thomas Dillard in first for catchers, Shoehi Ohtani first for RF, and Alpha Quivers 5th for relievers.
We looked to win the series with Mike Soroka (3-5, 3.19 ERA, 1.26 WHIP) taking on Cole Ragans (5-2, 3.59 ERA, 1.30 WHIP) in the finale. Up 2-0 heading into the 9th, Jorge Moya allowed 3 runs and we trailed 3-2 heading to the bottom half. Austin Hedges hit a RBI double to tie the game. They got 1 in the top of the 10th, and we got 1 more in the bottom. In the 11th, Jon Reid singled and Austin Hendrick singled, and we had runners on first and third with no outs for Austin Hedges. Before throwing a pitch, Zach Pop attempted to pick off Hendrick, but the ball got away and Reid scored the winning run!
Soroka was brilliant, 8 shutout innings with 4 hits, a walk, and 4 strikeouts. Moya allowed 3 runs on 3 hits with 2 walks and a strikeout. Alpha Quivers went 1.1 innings with 2 hits, a run, walk, and strikeout. Chasen Shreve got the win, an inning with a walk and strikeout.
Deshawn Hardamon was 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, a run, and RBI. Hedges had an RBI double in the 9th to bring the game to extras. Vlad Jr. was 3-for-5 with a run and RBI. Mickey Moniak was 2-for-5 with a run scored. Hendrick was 2-for-4 with a walk and run scored.
It looks like Billy Burgess in A Greensboro's career is over, it did the gloomy "the results aren't back yet" injury rating when the diagnosis is still pending.
Up next is a weird home-away with Boston. Starting with the home, we'd see Alfredo Rivera (2-5, 4.58 ERA) and Amari Ifill (0-1, 3.28 ERA).
