Major League Baseball returns to Wisconsin as the Seattle Pilots have relocated to Milwaukee and have become the "Brewers". The Milwaukee Braves left town to become the Atlanta Braves, so Milwaukee will once again have the MLB. Although the Pilots have not been granted full bankruptcy, season tickets have to be placed on hold.

St Louis Cardinals OF Curt Flood has filed a civil lawsuit against the MLB challenging the reserve clauses. Flood has refused to report to the Philadelphia Phillies after an October 1969 with the Cardinals.

The Sporting News has named Willie Mays as the Player of the Decade for the 1960's.

The Baseball Hall of Fame is proud to announce its two newest members. LF Stan Musial and CF Duke Snider.

* The 49 year old Musial started his MLB career in 1941 with the St Louis Cardinals, where he remained his whole career that spanned to 1963. Musial played in 3026 games over a 22 year career. Musial had 3630 hits, 475 HRs and 1951 RBIs with a career batting average of .331. Musial was a 20-time All Star and won the MVP award 3 times. (1943, 1946, and 1948). He led the NL in doubles 8 times, triples 5 times and RBIs twice. He also won the batting title 7 times. Musial is also a 3-time World Series winner. Musial may have won more awards but he missed the 1945 season while he served in the Navy. Musial was born in Donora, Pennsylvania, as was a future ball player Ken Griffey Jr. making Junior the 2nd best left handed hitter from Danora.

* The Silver Fox, Duke Snider started his career with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 at the age of 20 where he remainded with the franchise through its move to Los Angeles into 1962. He then played 1 season with the Mets 1963 and Giants 1964. The 2 time World Champ played 2143 games over 18 seasons, collecting 2116 hits, 407 HRs and 1333 RBIs with a .295 batting average. Snider was an 8-time All Star that led the league with 199 hits in 1950. In 1956 Snider led the league with 43 HRs which was a career high. Over 5 seasons from 1953-1957, Snider had 40 or more HRs. Like Musial, Snider served in the Navy in 1945 played in the Dodgers minor league teams until his MLB debut in April 1947. The Dodgers moved to Los Angeles and the new digs were not kind to the sore knees that Snider had. By 1961 Snider was limited to a part time player as age slowed him down. I remember Snider most as the smooth voice of the Montreal Expos from 1973-1986.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed Free Agent SP Fred Norman. The 27 year old was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA in the last season he pitched, 1967 for the Cubs in 1 game. Norman's career has been rocky to this point, as he has spent much of 5 seasons in the minors for the Athletics and Cubs. The screw-ball pitcher made his MLB debut in September 1962 for the Kansas City Athletics.

The St Louis Cardinals have released 1B Bill White, the 36 year old hit .211 with 0 HRs and 4 RBIs in 49 games for the Cardinals in 1969. White spent 13 years in the MLB and maybe his best, 1963 when he hit .27 HRs and 109 RBIs with 200 hits. White hit over .300 with at least 100 RBIs in 3 straight seasons from 1962-1964. He was a 1964 World Series champ, an 8-time All Star and a 7-time Gold Glover.

The Boston Red Sox have released RP Ron Kline. The 37 year old was 0-1 with 6 saves, a 1.50 ERA in 38 games for the Red Sox (26) Giants (6) and Pirates (6) in 1969. Kline made his debut with the Pirates in April 1962, he led the league with 18 losses in 1956 for the Pirates and again with 16 losses in 1958 with the Pirates.

The Oakland Athletics have traded LF Mike Hershberger, SP Lew Krausse, C Phil Roof and CL Ken Sanders to the Milwaukee Brewers for 2B Ron Clark and 1B Don Mincher. The 30 year old Hershberger hit .254 with 2 HRs and 11 RBIs in 47 games for the Athletics. Hershberger made his debut with the White Sox in 1961 and led the league with 7 Sac Flys in 1966. The 26 year old Krausse was 5-6 with a 5.06 ERA in 22 games for the Athletics. Krausse was caught in the cross hairs of Charlie Finlay when he was suspended by the Athletics for rowdyism in 1967. The 28 year old Roof hit .194 with 5 HRs and 27 RBIs in 86 games for the Athletics. The 28 year old Sanders did not play in 1969. The 27 year old Clark hit .188 with 0 HRs and 12 RBIs in 61 games for the Pilots (Brewers) and Twins in 1969. The 31 year old Mincher hit .231 with 18 HRs and 49 RBIs in 145 games for the Pilots. Mincher is the one of 5 players on the Twins that set a record with 5 HRs in an inning in 1966. The others to hit HRs that inning were Harmon Killebrew, Tony Oliva, Rich Rollins and Zoilo Versalles.
