FLORIDA, OKLAHOMA CONFIRM SWAP
Florida and Oklahoma have agreed on a trade that sends 29-year-old C Cisco Mendoza and minor league prospects Masuhiro Kasuya, a 3B, and 23-year-old minor league P Hiroshi Inouye to Oklahoma and in return Florida receives P prospect Luis Balderas and OF Joe Cummings.
GM'S OFFICE
The moves behind the plate and the recent signing gave me a shot to sell high on Mendoza, and I think I did. Both prospects I gave up are deep in the line and a good ways off. But the two players I received could be big pieces. Cummings is a switch-hitting corner outfielder who handles RHP like a monster. He was a 5th rounder in 2005 out of Miami and he followed up a .329-44-137 season in AA with a .326-28-95 season at AAA last year. He's also holding 2 options. His 28 homers left him 2 shy of the 30/30 club btw. The last two seasons he's struck out 126 times to 137 walks. He possesses a very unique set of tools given his 40+ homer bat, 50+ steal speed and his ability to quite literally bunt for a .300 average.
Balderas has had 3 different September call-ups and all 3 as a reliever. He's a future starter. He's out of options but likely as a RH will sit in the middle to a long role in the pen. Our scouts say when he's done he'll have 3 ++ pitches.
MEMPHIS SIGNS KOO
Veteran star Luo-Lang Koo has agreed to terms with the Blue Sox today. The team retains their star catcher with a 4 year 19.36m dollar deal featuring a vesting option on year 4 (480 PA).
