August 29th-September 4th
August 29th, 2025: I recalled Slade Cecconi from AAA before the game.
We open the first of four crucial games against Atlanta in Marlins Park with Shoehi Ohtani (3-3, 4.48 ERA, 1.40 WHIP) facing Tyler Glasnow (8-6, 4.11 ERA, 1.17 WHIP) and a tired Braves team. We have to use this to our advantage. Or, we can lose 5-1 to give them a pity win...
In possibly his last start of the year, Ohtani went 5.2 innings with 6 hits, 4 runs, a walk, and 6 strikeouts. Joseph Jarneski allowed a run in 2 innings with 2 hits and 5 strikeouts.
Jon Reid had a pinch hit triple in the 7th and later scored. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with a double and RBI. Austin Hendrick was 1-for-3 with a double.
August 30th, 2025: Game two saw Cole Winn (10-9, 3.73 ERA, 1.00 WHIP) and Jake Florence (8-8, 3.86 ERA, 1.38 WHIP) battle in a high quality pitching matchup. We evened the series up with a nice 2-1 win.
Florence went 6.2 innings with 3 hits, a run, walk, and 5 strikeouts. Hyo-jin Yaung and Alpha Quivers both got holds, and Jorge Moya got the save.
Austin Hendrick was 1-for-4 with a run scored and 2 steals. Jeison Guzman was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI. Max Marusak had an interesting game, 0-for-0 with a walk, hit by pitch, and steal. Cole Roederer was 1-for-3 with a walk. Seth Beer was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
August 31st, 2025: Deshawn Hardamon will start a quick rehab assignment at AAA. I'd call him up after the Braves series.
Atlanta's SP Ian Bedell tore his labrum and will miss the rest of the year and possibly part of next year. He was 3-1 with a 2.91 ERA in 11 starts with 46 strikeouts in 65 innings.
We looked to take the series lead with Walker Buehler (7-6, 2.41 ERA, 1.01 WHIP) taking on Lucas Sims (6-7, 4.72 ERA, 1.30 WHIP). We got 3 in the 7th to tie the game up, but the Braves won in 10 innings 4-3.
Buehler went 5, allowing 6 hits, 2 runs, a walk, and 6 strikeouts. Chasen Shreve alloewd a run, hit, and got a strikeout in the 6th. Yaung got the loss, a run off a hit, walk, and 2 strikeouts in the 10th.
Jeison Guzman was 1-for-4 with a three run homer. Cole Roederer was 1-for-4 with a steal and walk. Austin Hedges was 2-for-4.
September 1st, 2025: Rosters expand today, but most callups won't happen until later.
We dropped to 5th in the Power Raknings at 78-54. Guess who is #1? Of course, the Braves...
We looked to earn the split with Mike Soroka (8-8, 3.28 ERA, 1.15 WHIP) taking on Zach Attianese (3-3, 2.53 ERA, 1.20 WHIP). The Braves bested us again, this time 4-2, to expand their lead on us.
Soroka went 6.1 innings with 7 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Marc Bjork allowed a run in the 8th off a hit, walk, and strikeout. Isaiah Musa allowed a run in th e9th with 2 htis, a walk, and a strikeout.
Vlad Jr. was 3-for-5 with an RBI. Cole Roederer was 2-for-4 with a steal. Jeison Guzman was 1-for-3 with a walk and double. Seth Beer was 1-for-4 with a run scored and walk. Shohei Ohtani was 2-for-5.
We'll look to bounce back in Philadelphia with three with the still over .500 and 70-63 Phillies. We'll see Steve Fettig (15-3, 2.99 ERA), Mateo Gill (1-2, 4.88 ERA), and Adam Haseley (5-6, 5.24 ERA).
September 2nd, 2025: I recalled Deshawn Hardamon from his rehab assignment.
Steve Paustian (8-5, 4.25 ERA, 1.46 WHIP) opened the series against Steve Fettig (15-3, 2.99 ERA, 1.10 WHIP). We got three in the ninth to rally back for a 5-4 win.
Paustian went 5.2 innings with 9 hits, 4 runs, 5 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Marc Bjork improved to 7-1 with 2.1 innings, a hit, and 2 strikeouts. Moya got a hold and Quivers a save.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 2-for-3 with 2 walks and 2 solo homers. Shoehi Ohtani had a pinch hit solo homer in the 9th. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4.
September 3rd, 2025: Down in AAA, I had to place Garrett McDaniels on the 60-Day DL with a torn flexor tendon in his elbow. It does make room on the 40 for Cease, however.
The Orioles will be without LHP Bobby Poyner for the year with a torn labrum. He was 7-1 with a 3.55 ERA and 3 saves.
The 46-88 Cardinals have been eliminated from postseason contention. They are 28.5 games behind the Cubs.
We looked to win the series a day early with Shoehi Ohtani (3-4, 4.61 ERA, 1.39 WHIP) facing Mateo Gill (1-2, 4.88 ERA, 1.28 WHIP). We got 5 in the 5th and won 11-3 to win our 80th of the year.
Ohtani went 6.1 innings, allowing 2 hits, 3 runs, 5 walks, and getting 6 strikeouts. Dinelson Lamet finished the game, going 2.2 innings with a hit and 4 strikeouts.
Isaac Nunez went 2-for-3 with 3 runs, 3 RBI's, a steal, 2 walks, and 2 homers. Vlad Jr. was 2-for-3 with 2 walks and 2 solo homers. Austin Hedges was 2-for-5 with 2 runs, 2 RBI's, and a homer. Seth Beer was 1-for-4 with 2 runs, 2 RBI's, a walk, and a homer. Ohtani was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI. Cole Roederer was 1-for-5 with a double. Austin Hendrick was 1-for-5 with a run scored and double. Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-5 with a run scored in his day back.
September 4th, 2025: I recalled Jordan Montgomery and Dylan Cease from their rehab assignments to fill my 40-man roster back up.
Angels righty Stephen Pelli partially tore his ulnar collateral ligament and could miss all of 2026 as well. He was 8-6 in 27 starts with a 3.95 ERA and 138 strikeouts in 155 innings.
We looked to finish the sweep with Jake Florence (9-8, 3.74 ERA, 1.35 WHIP) taking on two-way starter Adam Haseley (5-6, 5.24 ERA, 1.49 WHIP). I don't know why the Phillies trot him out to start, but their pitching isn't really that good. It was a beautiful way to end the series, and we won 9-1.
Florence allowed an unearned run in 6 innings with 4 hits and 7 strikeouts. Slade Cecconi and Isaiah Musa combined for 3 innings with 2 hits, a walk, and 5 strikeouts.
Deshawn Hardamon went 3-for-5 with 2 runs and a solo homer. Vlad Jr. was 2-for-5 with a double, homer, and 3 RBI's. Seth Beer was 2-for-5 with 2 runs and a solo homer and a double. Austin Hendrick was 2-for-5 with a two run homer. Cole Roederer was 2-for-5 with a run scored, steal, and RBI. Thomas Dillard was 2-for-5 with a run scored and double. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with a run scored and steal.
A pair of hitters got 5 hits today. The Orioles RF Mike Verbeck was 5-for-6 in a 16-6 win over the Mariners. The Braves 2B Jeff Houghtby was also 5-for-5 in a 16-4 win over the Cardinals.
We're off to Washington for three games against the Nationals. We'll see Gage Hinsz (16-2, 2.83 ERA), Sonny Warner (6-4, 3.13 ERA), and Jay Groome (6-12, 5.07 ERA).
