Free Agency Pt. 2
January 2nd, 2019: The Red Sox acquired RHP Alex Colome from the Rays for 3B Michael Chavis, RHP Evan Odum, and LHP Tyler Wilson. I like this deal for the Re Sox, but Chavis is a solid prospect.
January 3rd, 2019: The Red Sox continue to bolster the pen, acquiring LHP Will Smith grom the Giants for RHP Slade Cecconi and SS Luis Alexander Gonzalez. It's another good deal for Boston, although Cecconi is also a solid prospect.
January 9th, 2019: The White Sox signed Daniel Hudson to a 1-year, $4,280,000 contract.
January 11th, 2019: The Rangers signed C Brian McCann to a 3-year, $24.9 million contract. The veteran is a career .260/.334/.452 hitter with 284 homres and 1,105 RBI's.
January 14th, 2019: The Nationals owner Ted Lerner passed away today. It's a sad day for DC, but his son, Andy, will take full control of the team. The Nationals will wear special patched to honor the deceased Lerner for the coming season.
January 15th, 2019: The Pirates traded RHP Kyle Funkhouser to the Reds for LHP Brandon Finnegan and cash considerations. It's a good deal for the Reds, although it's pretty even.
January 18th, 2019: The Nationals acquired CF Guillermo Heredia from the Mariners for RHP Tyler Mapes. It's a very even deal.
January 22nd, 2019: The Blue Jays won the Bryce Harper sweepstakes, signing him to a 6-year, $150,600,000 contract. He is a career .288/.391/.518 hitter with 171 homers and 480 RBI's.
January 23rd, 2019: The Hall of Fame results were published, and Mariano Rivera (94.1) was inducted. Todd Helton (70.8), Barry Bonds (68.2), Mike Mussina (66.6), Roy Halladay (63.3), and Roger Clemens (60.3) were all really close. Edgar Martinez (62, 10th year) was dropped, as well as Juan Pierre (3.9).
I signed SP Nathan Eovaldi to a 1-year, $1.8 million contract. He's a career 39-56 with a 4.34 ERA and 1.37 WHIP, although he was 1-10 with a 5.17 ERA and 1.30 WHIP last year with the Rays and Angels.
The Mets acquired 3B Nick Senzel and RHP Jimmy Herget to the Reds for LHP David Peterson. I have absolutely no idea what the Reds were thinking...
January 24th, 2019: The Dodgers signed Taiwanese international free agent Zong-Ming Zang to a 3-year, $32.3 million contract. He's got four plus-plus pitches, including a 93 rated change up. He hits 95-97 with his fastball and cutter. He doesn't really have starter stamina, but I guess the Dodgers don't care.
