Preseason
January 29th, 2019: I got a nice raise of my budget from $168 million to $180 million.
I also signed LHP Jake Diekman to a 2-year, $3.9 million per year deal. The 32-year-old vet has a 3.97 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 324 career innings with the Phillies and Rangers. He's got elite stuff, including a 94 rated slider that he throw sidearm, that is near impossible to hit as a lefty. He's also rated a 3.5 overall, and a great clubhouse influence. To make room for him, I place Alex Cobb on the 60-Day DL.
The Giants brought RF Andrew McCutchen back on a 5-year, $65.7 million contract. He had a decent year last year, hitting .274/.365/.424 with 17 homers and 86 RBI's. In his career, he's a .289/.378/.481 hitter with 220 homers and 811 RBI's.
February 2nd, 2019: I signed a pair of quality pitchers today.
First was RHP Joakim Soria, who agreed to a 3-year, $3.8 million per year deal, with the final year a team option. The long time big leaguer has 212 career saves with a 2.92 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 655 strikeouts in 629.2 innings. He's rated a 3.5* with plus-plus movement and 5 plus or better pitches. His change up, his best pitch, is a plus-plus offering and he has good control of all five of his pitches.
Second is LHP Drew Pomeranz, who agreed to a 2-year, $8.9 million per year deal. The 30-year-old is a career 47-55 with a 4.15 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 200 games (141 starts). He had a rough season with Boston last year, but he has an elite knukle curve that gets a lot of swings and misses. He's got plus stuff and is a solid pitcher overall.
To make room, I DFA'd Richard Bleier and Gabriel Ynoa.
February 5th, 2019: I outrighted both Bleier and Ynoa to AAA.
February 6th, 2019: Here's a crazy signing, the Rays signed "raining" MVP Josh Donaldson to a 1-year, $19.6 million contract. The market didn't develop for him how he wanted it to, so he settled for a short deal with Tampa. The two-time MVP hit .302/.393/.598 with 45 homers and 112 RBI's last season.
February 7th, 2019: The Rockies traded C Chris Iannetta to the Twins for LF Robbie Grossman and RHP Fernando Romero. It's a fair deal for both teams.
February 10th, 2019: I sent SP Nestor Cortes, LF D.J. Stewart, and 3B Ryan Mountcastle to the Tigers for RF Victor Reyes.
Reyes, 24, is a switch hitter who's an elite defender and has great spee. He's rated a 2.5* and has plus contact, eye, and avoid strikeout tools. He doesn't have much power, but he has great range in the outfield and has a ton of team control left.
February 14th, 2019: I guess the Tigers really didn't want Stewart, so I claimed him off waivers.
The Nationals acquired LF Scooter Gennett from the Reds for LHP Dillon Peters. OOTP is not a fan of Gennett, so this looks like a steal for the Reds.
February 27th, 2019: After a period of inactivity, the Brewers sent RHP Blake Treinen and LHP Quintin Torres-Costa to the Giants for C Miguel Gomez. I'm really puzzled on what the Brewers were thinking when making this deal. They must really need a catcher...
Spring Training is next!
