May 1st-May 7th
May 1st, 2026: We opened the home and away at Marlins Park as the Rays came to town. They'd send Brendan McKay (2-1, 3.54 ERA, 0.86 WHIP) to the mound against Mike Soroka (1-3, 6.62 ERA, 2.04 WHIP). Juan Ramirez is hitting 7th and playing CF in his 2026 debut. We played an overall awful game, and lost 7-1.
Soroka went 5.1 innings with 6 hits, 5 runs, and 3 strikeouts. Greg Walston allowed a run off a hit with a strikeout in 1.2 innings. Ignacio Hinojos allowed 2 hits and a run without getting an out.
Lewis Brinson was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Dewitt McGregor was 1-for-2 with a double and walk.
May 2nd, 2026: The Rockies will be without C Sean Murphy for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. He was hitting .200 in 11 games.
The Rangers signed CL Jose Leclerc to a 3-year, $21 million per year contract. He has 216 career saves to go with a 3.11 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 797 strikeouts in 588.1 innings.
We looked to split the home two with Jake Florence (0-1, 3.75 ERA, 2.08 WHIP) taking on Zack Peek (2-1, 4.50 ERA, 1.14 WHIP). We scored 3 quick runs in the first, and won the second game 4-1.
Florence pitched well, 6.2 shutout innings with 4 hits, 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Hyo-jin Yaung and Ernesto Estrella got holds. Jorge Moya pitched the 9th, allowing a hit, run, and strikeout.
Thomas Dillard was 2-for-3 with a solo homer and hit by pitch. Cole Roederer was 2-for-3 with a walk and run scored.
We're off to Tampa for the final two games, and we'd see Chad Whye (1-1, 0.60 ERA) and Paul Blackburn (1-0, 6.00 ERA).
May 3rd, 2026: The road part of the Florida Series took place between Devon Peterson (3-1, 2.51 ERA, 1.11 WHIP) and Paul Blackburn (1-0, 6.00 ERA, 2.07 WHIP). We took advantage of the pitching matchup, and edged them 6-4.
Thomas Dillard was ejected aruging a call in the first inning.
Peterson went 4.2 innings with 5 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Hinojos got the win, 1.1 innings with 3 strikeouts. Yaung, Dnany Niewald, and Estrella earned holds before Alpha Quivers got the save. Quivers did, however, allow a run off a hit with a strikeout.
Austin Hendrick was 3-for-4 with a double, run scored, 2 RBI's, and solo homer. Cole Roederer was 3-for-5 with 2 runs, 2 doubles, and a solo homer. Seth Beer was 2-for-4 with 2 homers, a solo shot and two run shot. Vlad Jr. was 1-for-4 with a a double and walk. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-3 with a walk.
May 4th, 2026: RF Jarred Kelenic is headed to AAA for a quick rehab assignment. I'd most likely recall him after our next series.
The White Sox will be without RHP Jon Duplantier for the year with a torn rotator cuff. He had a 1.93 ERA in 9.1 innings with strikeouts and a 1.29 WHIP.
At 16-11, we've moved up to 8th in the Power Rankings.
We looked to win the Florida Series with Steve Paustian (2-1, 2.51 ERA, 1.26 WHIP) facing Chad Whye (1-1, 0.60 ERA, 0.47 WHIP). We won 9-7, but lost Steve Paustian, who will miss about a week with back spasms. I might have to place him on the DL.
Marc Bjork came out of the pen after Paustian walked the only batter he faced, going 2.1 innings with 5 hits, 4 runs, a walk, and 2 strikeouts. Paustian was charged with a run as well. Hinojos got the win, 2.2 innings with 5 strikeouts. Greg Walston and Ernesto Estrella got holds while Quivers got a save. Danny Niewald pitched between Walston and Estrella, allowing 2 runs in 1.1 innings with 3 hits, a walk, and strikeout.
Jr. was 3-for-5 with 3 runs, 3 RBI's, 2 doubles, and a homer. Deshawn Hardamon was 3-for-4 with a double, run scored, and RBI. Thomas Dilard was 1-for-4 with a walk, double, run scored, and RBI. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4 with a run scored, RBI, and double.
I did place Paustian on the DL, and called up Brennan Malone from his rehab assignment in AAA. Bjork will replace Paustian in the rotation.
We head to New York to face the Mets for three. We'll see Cal Coughlin (0-3, 3.10 ERA), Noah Syndergaard (1-2, 4.22 ERA), and Robert Stephenson (0-2, 3.95 ERA).
May 5th, 2026: The Yankees will be without former Marlin Joe Jimenez for the year with a torn UCL. He's in the final year of a three year deal, and tossed just 1 inning this year.
The Mariners signed CL Jandel Gustave to a 1-year, $26.2 million contract.
We opened the series with Jordan Montgomery (3-1, 2.70 ERA, 0.90 WHIP) taking on Cal Coughlin (0-3, 3.10 ERA, 1.13 WHIP). Monty was amazing, and we on 4-0.
He went 6, allowing just 1 hit, 1 walk, and he struck out 5. Greg Walston and Jorge Moya got saves, but we didn't need save for the 9th.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 3-for-4 with an RBI and was also 1-for-2 stealing bases. Seth Beer was 1-for-4 with a solo homer and RBI double. Thomas Dillard was 2-for-4 with a solo homer. Cole Roederer was 1-for-3 with 2 runs, a double, and walk. Austin Hendrick was 1-for-4 with a double.
May 6th, 2026: The Amateur Draft pool was revealed, and here's who OSA considers the best prospects and what my scout and their scouts consider their potentials.
1. RF Chris Peters (1.5/5): Selected by the Braves 5th Overall in 2023.
2. RHP Nate Moss (3/5)
3. LHP Amari Boards (2/4):
4. LHP Ethan Pistner (4.5/4): I think I found who I want...
5. CF Chad Ermer (2.5/3.5)
6. CF Juan Barela (2.5/4.5)
7. RHP Juan Morales (1.5/5)
8. RHP Juan Alfredo Sica (0.5/4)
9. LHP Godrell Kennevrew (0.5/4)
10. RHP Mike Courtade (2/4)
My scout doesn't love this class, but it isn't bad by any means. It's not that strong, but there are a decent amount of solid starting pitchers. Both Ricky Case (5) and Steve Fox (5) look like studs, although Fox may not end up a starter. Pistner is really good as well, and Mucip Atil (4), Joe Marin (4), and Billy Stiles (4). Really the only good hitter is CF Ian Cavett (4). The save pick is Jorge Luna (1.5/4.5), a college reliever.
In case you were wondering where my 2023 unsigned guys are:
1st Round: RHP Kevin Sturgeon (0.5/0.5) Selected by the Pirates 8th overall in 2024.
3rd Round: 1B Ben Kempf (0.5/0.5): Selected by the Brewers 28th overall in 2024.
9th Round: CF Sean Bair (0.5/0.5): Selected in the 13th Round by the A's in 2024.
13th Round: SS Danny Deliso (0.5/2)
15th Round: CF Ken Ormand (1.5/0.5): Selected by the Angels in the 23rd Round in 2024.
16th Round: CF Jeremy Page (0.5/0.5)
19th Round: SP Juan Arteaga (0.5/0.5)
25th Round: SP Juan AlyArez (0.5/0.5)
29th Round: SP Braedon Chiasson (0.5/0.5)
30th Round: CF Sean Addis (0.5/0.5)
33rd Round: C Jonathan Hall (0.5/0.5)
34th Round: CF Juan Rivera (0.5/0.5)
35th Round: CF Nate Cody (0.5/0.5)
37th Round: SP Luis Ospina (0.5/0.5)
38th Round: SP Murdoch Pardy (0.5/0.5)
Doesn't look like I really missed anything.
Back to baseball, the struggling Mike Soroka (1-4, 7.04 ERA, 1.83 WHIP) took on Noah Syndergaard (1-2, 4.22 ERA, 0.97 WHIP). Not only is Soroka 0-2 with a 7.88 ERA against the Mets this year, Gregorio Alvarenga is hitting .418 career against him, Robert Hassell .471, and Adrian Hernandez .429 with a homer. This should be a fun one... We did get 4 in the 6th, but that was it in the 6-4 loss.
Austin Hendrick left with an injury. I'd likely place him on teh DL to recall Kelenic from his rehab assignment.
Soroka went 5, allowing 5 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks, and he struck out 3. Danny Nieawrld fot the loss, 0.2 innings with a hit, run, 2 walks, and a strikeout. Hyo-jin Yaung allowed 2 hits and a run with a walk and strikeout.
Seth Beer was 1-for-4 with a three run homer. Juan Ramirez was 1-for-3 with a double and walk. Jon Reid was 1-for-3 with a triple and run scored. Vlad Jr. was 1-for-4 with a run scored and RBI.
May 7th, 2026: Tears were shed in Atlanta, where owner John Malone passed away with illness. His son, John Jr., will take over the club with a heavy heart. The Braves will honor the elder Malone the rest of the year. John Jr. is considered controlling and demanding, not a good combination.
We looked to win the series with Jake Florence (1-1, 2.93 ERA, 1.86 WHIP) facing Brady Singer (1-3, 3.18 ERA, 0.91 WHIP). Again, Adrian Hernandez has a favorable matchup, 7-for-11 against Florence. It was close, but we topped the Mets 4-2 to win the series.
Florence went 7, allowing 7 hits, 2 runs, and he struck out 7. And Hernandez was 0-for-4. Danny Niewald got the hold and Alpha Quivers the save. Both pitched perfect frames with a strikeout.
Isaac Nunez was 2-for-3 with a run scored, RBI, and walk. He was a worse 1-for-3 on steal attempts. Dewitt MacGregor was 1-for-4 with a solo homer, the first of his career. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-4 with a two run homer. Juan Ramirez was 1-for-4 with a double.
We're headed back home to face the Cardinals for three before a day off. We'll see Lenny Torres (1-2, 3.31 ERA), Joe LaBrie (1-3, 3.48 ERA), and Jon Sullivan (0-5, 6.99 ERA).
