Ohio-Banderas (11-13 4.31) @ Florida-Willoughby (14-8 2.97)
Ohio struck 1st on a 2 out solo HR by Luis Paredes in the top of the 2nd. A Kennon Hallamore 3B would tie it in the 3rd and Arturo Mendoza's RBI single made it 2-1. Ismael Saldana hit a solo shot in the 5th to make it 3-1. Willoughby kept it there into the 9th. With no Galindo available Chad started the 9th vs Layne Cosman, who would lead off with a single and then switch hitter Sergio Robles was due up. With a somewhat tired pen, and no desire to bring Jake Grab in for just a single hitter (Robles prefers LHP) Chad stayed in, get him out and leave to a thunderous standing O, he went 8.1 allowing just 3 hits, the single run and 1 walk while striking out 6 on 122 pitches. Brad Turner would be called on to face AL Triple Crown Winner and soon to be MVP Joey Vertz. In what may go down as the most controversial decision of the year and maybe his career General skipper Don Mattingly summoned right-hander Sergio Jaquez was to PH (Mattingly said Vertz's 1-17 postseason and Brad Turner is one of the games most dominant left-handed relievers he wanted a better 'matchup'.)
Turner got Jaquez for the 2nd out and Paredes then lined a 2 out 2 strike single to left. LH hitting 3B Steve Stahl would be allowed to hit and Turner put him away on 3 pitches.
  • Florida 3 Ohio 1
  • W-Willoughby (1-0) L-Banderas (0-1) S-Turner (1)
  • HR- OH-Paredes (1) FLA-Saldana (1)
  • Florida leads series 2-0
