July 14th-July 19th

July 14th, 2026: The Rays have acquired RHP Chris Archer from the Mariners for C Zachary Jackson and RHP Esteban Miranda. Archer last played with the Rays in 2021, and at 37, will return to the team he debuted with. They paid a pretty big price for him, and I like this deal for Dipoto and the Mariners.

The Angels sent SS Livan Soto to the Pirates for RHP Chris Green and RHP Ben Grayson. I like this deal for both teams.

We opened the second half of the season with Jake Florence (5-2, 3.23 ERA, 1.48 WHIP) facing his old teammate and friend Walkler Buehler (6-6, 3.73 ERA, 1.07 WHIP). We gave him a nice welcome back in his return to Marlins Park, although he beat us earlier in the year in LA. It was a cloe one, but the Dodgers edged us 2-1 to start the second half of the season.

Florence pitched well, 6 innings with 4 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks, and 3 strike outs. The pen pitched 3 innings with a hit and 2 strike outs.

Juan Ramirez was 2-for-3 with a RBI and walk. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Seth Beer were both 1-for-4 with a double. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-3 with a walk.

July 15th, 2026: The Red Sox will be without RHP Carter Capps for the rest of the year with a stretched elbow ligament. THe 35-year-old veteran was 1-3 with a 8.17 ERA in 25.1 innings with 20 strikeouts.

I agreed to a swap of my own, sending impending free agent RF Lazaro Armenteros and LHP Juan Rosales to the Nationals for 3B Shemar McClennon and RHP Josh Nix. This was a salary move, to free up a little space if I need an upgrade, and since Armenteros would likely not demand enough to decline a qualifying offer.

McClennon, 21, is a 2.5* potential infielder with a solid bat and decent glove. The former 19th Round Pick was released by Seattle on draft day before catching on with the White Sox, and then the Nationals after being releaseds again.

Nix, 23, is a 2.5* relief pitcher who has the stamina to toss a few innings at a time out of the pen, with a plus-plus cutter that can hit the upper 90s. The former 2nd Round Pick out of Long Beach State, the Nats youngster has had a solid start to the year in A- Auburn.

We looked to even up the series with Devon Peterson (7-3, 3.98 ERA, 1.35 WHIP) facing Kevin Jalbert (6-4, 3.86 ERA, 1.14 WHIP). We got a run in the first, but that was it, in a 1-0 shutout where the Dodgers only had 1 hit.

Vladdy left with a foot contusion, and will head to the DL for 2 weeks.

Peterson went 7, allowing just a hit and walk with 7 strikeouts. Sashiro Onuma and Hyo-jin Yaung earned holds in the 8th before Alpha Quivers tossed a perfect 9th to earn his 28th save.

Juan Ramirez was 2-for-4 with an RBI double. He drove in Jon Reid, who pinch ran for Junior after he got hit by a pitch to start the game. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-3 with a double. Peterson the pitcher was 1-for-3.

July 16th, 2026: I recalled 3B Roberto Pena from AAA. The 27-year-old will be set to make his major league debut. The former Arizona 4th Round pick was claimed off waivers by us back in 2023, and has been with the organization ever since.

We looked to win the series with Steve Paustian (5-6, 4.92 ERA, 1.51 WHIP) facing Mike Clevinger (3-5, 4.22 ERA, 1.35 WHIP). Pena will hit 8th and play 3B in his major league debut. He recored his first career hit in a 4-3 win.

Paustian went 6 innings with 3 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks, and 7 strikeouts. Jorge Moya tossed an inning with 2 hits, a run, walk, and 3 strikeouts. Yaung got the win and Quivers the save. Both Moya and Quivers struck out the side.

Juan Ramirez was 2-for-3 with 2 runs, a walk, and a double. Jarred Kelenic was 2-for-3 with a run scored, RBI, double, and walk. Cole Roedeer had a pinch hit RBI double in the 7th. Pena was 1-for-3 with a run scored and stolen base.

Yankees SP Eric Armstrong tossed a 5-hitter in an 11-0 win over the rival Red Sox.

The Phillies come to town for three, as we are now tied with them for first place. We'll see Mr. Perfection Jim Gilbert (8-0, 2.87 ERA), Jonathan Childress (1-1, 4.30 ERA), and Steve Fettig (10-4, 3.39 ERA).

July 17th, 2026: We looked to open the series with the Phillies with a win, as Jordan Montgomery (8-3, 3.22 ERA, 1.11 WHIP) took on Jim Gilbet (8-0, 2.87 ERA, 0.94 WHIP). Tied at two, we got a run in the 8th to take a 3-2 lead. In the 9th, former Marlin Adam Haseley hit a RBI single off Ernesto Estrella to tie the game up. With no outs in the bottom of the 9th, Roberto Pena hit a walk off single to score pinch runner Jon Reid as we took the opener and first place with a 4-3 win.

Montgomery pitched well, 6 innings with 5 hits, 2 runs (1 earned) and 4 strike outs. Yaung allowed a run in 0.1 innings with a walk and strike out. Esterlla blew the save, 0.2 innings with a hit and walk, but he got the win.

Jarred Kelenic was 2-for-4 with a double, steal, run scored, and 2 RBI's. Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI. Pena was 1-for-4 with the game winning RBI single. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4.

Brewers RF Monte Harrison has a 20 game hit streak after a 2 hit game in a 7-6 loss to the Pirates.

July 18th, 2026: The Rays will be without LHP Carlos Leandro for the year with a torn meniscus. He was 4-3 with a 4.93 ERA in 42 innings.

The Brewers traded 1B Braden Shewkame to the Rangers for RHP Charlie Neeper. It's an even enough trade.

We looked to extend our lead with Mike Soroka (4-5, 4.23 ERA, 1.38 WHIP) facing Jonathan Childress (1-1, 4.30 ERA, 1.50 WHIP). It was an overall beautiful game, and we shut them out 7-0.

Soroka almost went the distance, 8.2 shutout innings with 5 hits, a walk, and 3 sttrikeouts. Ben Popkin needed just 1 pitch to get a fly out to end the game.

Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-5 with a homer, triple, and 2 RBI's. Jarred Kelenic was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a hit by pitch, and three RBI's. Jhon Solarte was 2-for-4 with 2 runs, an RBI, and a steal. Soroka was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-4 with a walk and a pair of stolen bases.

Harrison's hit streak is already snapped, as he went 0-for-5 in a 6-5 win over the Pirates.

Padres 1B Matt Olson hit his 400th career hoemr in his 1,431st career game. He's a career .244/.341/.527 hitter with 990 RBI's in 5,251 at bats with Oakland and San Diego.

July 19th, 2026: We looked to finish the sweep with Jake Florence (5-3, 3.21 ERA, 1.46 WHIP) taking on Steve Fettig (10-4, 3.39 ERA, 0.98 WHIP). We tried a late inning comeback, but they held us off with a 5-4 win to salvage the finale.

Florence lasted just 2.1 innings with 7 hits, 3 runs, and 3 strikeoiuts. Danny Niewald went 2.1 innings with a hit, 2 runs, a walk, and 2 strikeouts. The rest of the pen combined for 4.1 innings with 4 hits, 4 walks, and 6 strike outs.

Juan Ramirez was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Seth Beer was 2-for-4. Jordy Barley was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Jhon Solarte was 1-for-4 with a run scored and steal. Roberto Pena was 1-for-3 with a double, run scored, and sac-bunt. Dewitt MacGregor was 1-for-4 with a run scored.

We couldn't pull off the sweep, but first place is still ours. Tomorrow is a day off as we'll travel to Cincinnati to face the Reds!
