August 3rd-August 10th
August 3rd, 2026: New Marlin LF Billy Williamson ws named player of the week. He hit 11-for-22 with 3 homers, 13 RBI's, and 7 runs scored with us and the Nationals.
Down in AAA, Chris Dito was named American Confrence Player of the Week. He hit .429 with 2 homers and 3 RBI's.
Down even farther in A+ Jupiter, 3B Juan Romo went 11-for-21 with 4 homers and 10 RBI's.
We're up to 2nd in the Power Rankings at 65-42 with a 1.5 game lead over the Phillies.
Mets SP Francisco Morales tossed a 3-hitter as they shut out the Rockies 5-0.
We're off to Atlanta to face the Braves for three. We'll see Lucas Sims (5-5, 3.52 ERA), Ken Harty (2-7, 4.46 ERA), and Clayton Nettleton (4-3, 3.34 ERA).
August 4th, 2026: We opened the series with Mike Soroka (5-6, 3.95 ERA, 1.29 WHIP) facing Mashiaro Tanaka (6-5, 3.86 ERA, 1.05 WHIP). Up 3-2 in the 9th, Khaili Lee tied it up with a RBI double off Alpha Quivers. In the top of the 10th, Seth Beer hit a solo homer and we won the opener 4-3.
Soroka pitched well, 6.1 innings with 6 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Quivers got the win and blow save, an inning with 2 htis and a run. Ignacio Hinojos got his first save of the year with a hit and strikeout in the 10th.
Seth Beer had a game to remember, 4-for-5 with a pair of homers and 3 RBI's. Jarred Kelenic was 1-for-3 with a run scored, 2 walks, and 2 steals in 3 attempts. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
August 5th, 2026: Former Marlin and current Philly CF Ernesto Arambula for the year with a torn back muscle. He was hitting .262 with 16 homers and 51 RBI's.
Game two saw Jake Florence (5-6, 3.66 ERA, 1.52 WHIP) took on Lucas Sims (5-5, 3.52 ERA, 1.28 WHIP) as we looked to take the series a day early. They got three in the second and we were topped 4-3.
Florence went 2.2 innings with 4 hits, 3 runs, a walk, and 4 strikeouts. Brennan Malone went 2.2 innings with 2 hits and 2 strikeouts. Hyo-jin Yaung got the loss, a run and hit in the 8th despite striking out the side.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 3-for-4 with a double, walk, and steal. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-4 with 2 runs and a solo homer. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4 wiht an RBI. Jarred Kelenic was 1-for-4 with a walk.
August 6th, 2026: Padres SP Tyler Skaggs is out for the year with a bone spur in his elbow. He tossed just 0.2 innings in his first big league action since 2022.
We looked to win the series with Devon Peterson (8-4, 4.05 ERA, 1.27 WHIP) facing a pitcher I wish I still had, Ken Harty (2-7, 4.46 ERA, 1.18 WHIP). We couldn't score, and lost the finale 4-1.
Peterson went 6 innings with 6 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Hinojos allowed a run in 1.1 innings with a hit, walk, and 2 strikeouts.
Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with a double and RBI. Seth Beer was 1-for-3 with a walk. Cole Roederer was 1-for-4 with a run scored.
Well, that sucked...
Mariners 2B Noah Campbell went 5-for-6 in a 5-4 loss to the Royals.
I'm headed to Washington for four. We'd see Gage Hinsz (12-3, 3.86 ERA), Kyle Molnar (4-5, 4.11 ERa), Cole Ragnas (7-10, 4.04 ERA), and Jacob Heatherly (0-1, 4.26 ERA).
August 7th, 2026: Astros SP Luke Weaver is out for the year with a torn labrum. He was 5-4 with a 3.95 ERA.
Boston will be without RHP Luis CA. Garcia for the year with a torn flexor tendon. He was 1-2 with a 5.69 ERA in 50 innings with 43 strikeouts.
We opened the series in Washington with Steve Paustian (7-6, 4.44 ERA, 1.38 WHIP) facing Gage Hinsz (12-3, 3.86 ERA, 1.32 WHIP). Paustian is 2-1 against the Nationals with a 2.08 ERA while Hinsz is 0-1 with a 16.20 ERA against us. Tied at two, we scored 2 in the 8th to take the opener 4-2.
Paustian went 6 innings with 5 hits, 2 runs, and 5 strikeouts. Jorge Moya got the win, an inning with a walk and 2 strikeouts. Sanshiro Onuma and Hyo-jin Yaung got holds before Alpha Quivers got the save.
Billy Williamson was 1-for-1 with a double, run scored, 2 RBI's, and 3 walks. Thomas Dillard was 2-for-4 with a double and 2 runs scored. Jarred Kelenic was 1-for-4 with a walk, run scored, and double. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with a double and RBI.
Cardinals LF Jeff Hosey was 5-for-6 in a 8-3 win over the interstate rival Royals.
August 8th, 2026: Arizona will be without SP Jean-Christophe Hernandez for the year. Despite a torn rotator cuff, he should be ready for next season. He was 5-2 with a 4.09 ERA in 70.1 innings with 61 strikeouts.
Game two saw Jordan Montgomery (9-3, 2.95 ERA, 1.08 WHIP) take on Kyle Molnar (4-5, 4.11 ERA, 1.05 WHIP). The Nats got three in the 6th and we lost 4-2.
Montgomery allowed 4 runs (2 earned) in 6.2 innings with 2 strikeouts. Ignacio Hinojos went 1.1 innings with a hit, walk, and 2 strikeouts.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 3-for-5 with a run scored and steal. Jarred Kelenic was 3-for-4 with a run scored and RBI. Bobbby Williamson was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI. Dewitt MacGregor was 2-for-4.
August 9th, 2026: The Astros will be without CL Brad Ford for the year with radial nerve compression. He was 0-4 with a 2.90 ERA and he has struck out 55 in 49.2 innings.
We looked to retake the series lead with Mike Soroka (5-6, 3.89 ERA, 1.30 WHIP) taking on Cole Ragans (7-10, 4.04 ERA, 1.39 WHIP). We've hit Ragans well, with Vladdy 9 for 20 with 3 homers and Deshawn Hardamon 7 for 16 with a solo homer. It wasn't even close, and we got destroyed 10-3.
Soroka went 5 innings with 8 hits, 4 runs, and 2 strikeouts. Danny Niewald allowed 4 runs off 3 hits in 0.1 innings. Ignacio Hinojos allowed a run in an inning with a hit and strikeout. Ernesto Estrella went 1.2 innings with 2 hits, a run, and 3 strikeouts.
Jordy Barley came off the bench and was 1-for-2 with a double, steal, and run scored. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and a run scored. Billy Williamson was 1-for-3 with a run scored, RBI, and sac-fly.
August 10th, 2026: We droped to 5th in the Power Rankings, and we may drop even farther if we get swept. We still have a 3.5 game lead over the Phillies with a 67-46 record.
Jake Florence (5-6, 3.81 ERA, 1.53 WHIP) took on Jacob Heatherly (0-1, 4.26 ERA, 1.11 WHIP) as we needed to split the series. We scored in every inning to win the finale 15-2.
Florence went 5 innings with 7 htis, 2 runs, a walk, and 8 strikeouts. Brennan Malone and Ernesto Estrella weren't perfect, but didn't allow a run in 4 innings with 5 hits, a walk, and 3 strikeouts.
As you would expect, a lot of offensive players went off. Cole Roederer was 4-for-6 with 4 runs, 2 RBI's, a walk, steal, and home run. Jhon Solarte was 2-for-4 with 2 runs, 2 RBI's, a walk, and sac-fly. Billy Williamson was 2-for-3 with 2 runs, 2 RBI's, 2 doubles, 2 walks, and a hit by pitch. Thomas Dillard was 2-for-5 with a run scored and walk. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 2-for-4 with 2 walks, a homer, and 3 RBI's. Jordy Barley had a pinch hit double with a steal and run scored.
We're headed home to play the Rockies for three games. We'll see Forrest Whitley (6-6, 5.40 ERA), Jay Groome (7-8, 5.06 ERA), and A.J. Puk (7-1, 4.44 ERA).
