July 11th-July 17th

July 11th, 2019: With a day off, I browsed the trade market. I submitted an offer for a relief pitccher. I also acquired CL Blake Treinen and cash from the Giants for SP Matthias Dietz.

Treinen, 31, is a 3.5* extreme groundball pitcher who is having a great season. He's got 16 saves and a 1.78 ERA in 35.1 innings with 37 strikeouts and a 1.13 WHIP. The righty throws a steady high 90s plus-plus fastballs and sinkers with a plus-plus slider and passable change up. He's got great movement, and really bolsters the pen.

I optioned Aaron Bummer to AAA to make room for him, and designated Jose Torres for assignment.

Mariners 1B Travis Shaw hit three homers in a 13-1 domination of the Rangers.

In Toronto, we'll see Robert Stephenson (3-6, 8.58 ERA), Dakota Chalmers (0-2, 6.43 ERA), and Tyler Anderson (4-3, 5.89 ERA).

July 12th, 2019: We started the series in a rough pitching matchup between Kevin Gausman (6-6, 5.48 ERA, 1.45 WHIP) and Robert Stephenson (3-6, 8.58 ERA, 2.00 WHIP). We got three quick runs and took the opener 6-2.

Gausman went 6, allowing 5 hits, a run, 2 walks, and he struck out 3. Bryan Shaw allowed a run in an inning of a single hit. Zach Britton struck out the final hitter of the game to earn his 21st save.

Trey Mancini was 3-for-5 with 2 doubles, 2 runs, and an RBI. Victor Reyes was 1-for-3 with a double, 2 RBI's, a walk, and a steal. Anthony Alford was 1-for-3 with a solo homer, 2 runs, and 2 walks. Jonathan Schoop was 1-for-5 with a two run homer. Nolan Arenado was 1-for-3 with a double and walk.

Yankees 2B Tyler Wade extended his hit streak to 20 games.

July 13th, 2019: Aaron Sanchez (7-5, 2.76 ERA, 0.91 WHIP), who is 0-2 with a 3.86 ERA against the Blue Jays this year, took on Dakota Chalmers (0-2, 6.43 ERA, 1.37 WHIP) in a packed Rogers Centre. Up 3-2 headed to the 9th, we got four in the 9th including a Victor Reyes three run homer in an eventual 7-3 win.

Sanchez was great, tossing 8+ innings with 5 hits, 3 runs, a walk, and 7 strikeouts. Joakim Soria finsihed the 9th, an inning with a walk and strike out.

Victor Reyes was 3-for-5 with the three run homer. Anthony Alford was 2-for-4 with a walk, run scored, RBI, and steal. Trey Mancini was 1-for-4 with a two run homer. Chance Sisco was 1-for-3 with 2 runs and 2 walks.

July 14th, 2019: AL Fan Vote update: Schoop 3rd for 2B. Sanchez 5th for SP. Britton 2nd for RP.

I outrighted Jose Torres to AAA.

We looked to finish the sweep with Shelby Miller (6-6, 3.68 ERA, 1.34 WHIP) facing Tyler Anderson (4-3, 5.89 ERA, 1.61 WHIP). The Jays offense was silent, and we shut them out 8-0 to complete the road sweep.

Millwer was greaet, 8.1 innings with 3 hits, a walk, and 7 strikeouts. Drew Pomeranz came out of the pen, finishing the game with a hit and strike out.

Victor Reyes was 2-for-4 with a double, homer, 2 runs, and 4 RBI's. Trey Mancini was 3-for-5 with a double, run scored, and RBI. Anthony Alford was 2-for-5 with a run scored. Nolan Arenado was 2-for-5 with 2 doubles, a run scored, and RBI.

We're off to Tampa for three to face the team just half a game ahead of us for the 1st Wild Card. We'll face Matt Andriese (8-2, 3.99 ERA), Chris Archer (5-3, 2.77 ERA), and Blake Snell (4-7, 4.46 ERA).

July 15th, 2019: Shelby Miller asked for an extension, but it's more then I'm willing to give him.

We moved up to 9th in the Power Rankings after the sweep and we now have a record of 50-39.

The Rays acquired CL Daniel Hudson, SP Edinxon Arias, and cash from the White Sox for SP Kevin Gadea and 2B Nick Solak. It's a nice deal for both teams.

Former Ray Erasmo Ramirez (2-3, 3.41 ERA, 1.23 WHIP) got the start against Matt Andriese (8-2, 3.99 ERA, 1.25 WHIP) in the opener at the Trop. Anthony Alford led off the game with a solo homer, but that was all the runs we'd get in a 7-1 loss.

Ramirez allowed 12 hits in 4.1 innings off 5 runs while striking out 4. Pomeranz allowed 2 unearned runs in 2 innings with 3 hits, 2 walks, and a stirkeout.

Alford was 1-for-3 with a walk and the solo homer. Lewis Brinson was 1-for-3 with a double. Jonathan Schoop was 2-for-4. Jose Iglesias was 2-for-3.

July 16th, 2019: Alex Cobb will head to the GCL to begin a rehab assignment.

I traded Kelvin Herrera to the Red Sox for Alex Colome and cash.

Colome, 30, has three plus pitches, plus movement, and plus control and has been brilliant this year with the Bo Sox. In 39.2 innings, he has a 2.27 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 27 saves, and 40 strikeouts.

We looked to even the series with Reynaldo Lopez (6-3, 3.79 ERA, 1.24 WHIP) facing Chris Archer (5-3, 2.77 EAR, 1.08 WHIP). We got four quick runs, and won the middle game 8-3.

Lopez went 5, allowing 5 hits, 3 runs, a walk, and he struck out just a pair. Colome made his Orioles debut, an inning with a hit and strike out.

Jose Peraza was 3-for-5 with an RBI. Victor Reyes was 1-for-3 with a homer, 2 walks, 2 runs, and 2 RBI's. Jonathan Schoop was 2-for-5 with a double, homer, 2 runs, and 2 RBI's. Michael A. Taylor was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Nolan Arenado was 2-for-5 wiht a run scored and double. Chance Sisco was 1-for-4 with 2 runs, a double, and hit by pitch.

Indians C Yan Gomes was 5-for-5 in a 14-10 win over the Yankees.

July 17th, 2019: Arizona SP Robbie Ray will miss a calender year with a torn labrum. He was 5-4 with a 3.40 ERA with 131 strikeouts in 103.1 innings.

We looked to earn the series win with Kevin Gausman (7-6, 5.22 ERA, 1.43 WHIP) taking on Jacob Faria (4-5, 5.19 ERA, 1.51 WHIP). Tied at zero in the 9th, we got two runs and won the finale 2-0.

Gausman got a no decision, 6 innings with 4 hits, 3 walks, and 8 strikeouts. Blake Treinen got the win, 1.2 innings with a walk. Britton got the hold, 0.1 innings with 2 hits and a walk, before Boone Logan got a double play on the only pitch he threw for his 2nd save.

Jonathan Schoop was 2-for-3 with a walk and run scored. Jose Peraza was 1-for-3 with a double. Victor Reyes was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Tyler Wade extended his hit streak to 25.

Our road trip continues with four against the White Sox before the All-Star break. We'll see Carson Fulmer (0-0, 2.16 ERA), Lucas Giolito (2-11, 8.90 ERA), Josh Tomlin (4-8, 4.33 ERA), and Lance Lynn (1-0, 5.33 ERA). The only starter we won't see is former Oriole Nathan Eovaldi.
