August 17th-August 24th

August 17th, 2026: The latest Power Rankings moved us to 3rd. At 72-48, we have the best record in the NL and a 4.5 game lead over the Phillies.

Looking ahead to the Mets series, we'd see former Marlin Tyler Mahle (3-12, 6.38 ERA), Robert Stephenson (1-8, 4.93 ERA), and Noah Syndegaard (4-7, 3.23 ERA) before another off day.

August 18th, 2026: We opened the series in the Big Apple with Steve Paustian (7-6, 4.32 ERA, 1.36 WHIP) facing Tyler Mahle (3-12, 6.38 ERA, 1.57 WHIP) who doesn't look like the star pitcher he was in his breif stint with us. We scored 4 in the first, and cruised to a 9-1 victory.

Paustian was brilliant, 8 innings with 3 hits, a run, 2 walks, and 9 strikeouts. Brennan Malone finished the game, but allowed 2 hits.

Seth Beer was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks, 2 runs scored, 4 RBI's, a sac-fly, and a homer. Jarred Kelenic was 2-for-4 with a walk and run scored. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-4 with a two run homer and sac-fly. Cole Roederer was 1-for-4 with a run scored, 2 RBI's, a double, and a walk. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 1-for-3 with a pair of walks and a run scored. Despite the 9 runs, he had just 6 hits.

August 19th, 2026: We looked to take the series a game early in a battle of 33-year-olds, southpaw Jordan Montgomery (9-4, 3.24 ERA, 1.12 WHIP) and righty Robert Stephenson (1-8, 4.93 ERA, 1.17 WHIP). The pitching on our end was great, and we shut the Mets out 7-0.

Montgomery went 6.1 innings with 2 hits, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Ernesto Estrellan and Brennan Malone went 2.2 innings with a hit, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.

Deshawn Hardamon was 3-for-5 with a homer and 2 RBI's. Jarred Kelenic was 1-for-3 with a walk, run scored, and two steals. Seth Beer was 1-for-5 with a two run homer. Dewitt MacGregor hit a pinch hit 2-run homer in the 9th. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 1-for-5 with a double, run scored, and RBI. Col Roederer and Isaac Nunez were both 1-for-4 with a run scored.

Former Marlin Giancarlo Stanton hit his 2,000th career hit in a 13-6 win over the rival Red Sox. The Yanks outfielder has just one year left in his massive contract he signed with the Marlins. In 7,891 at bats he's a career .254/.348/.561 hitter with 665 homers and 1,545 RBI's. At 36, he ranks 5th All-Time in homers, and has a shot to break Bonds' record with a few more solid seasons.

August 20th, 2026: We looked to ginish the sweep with Mike Soroka (5-7, 3.93 ERA, 1.30 WHIP) facing the still dominant Noah Syndergaard (4-7, 3.23 ERA, 1..07 WHIP). Soroka has had it rough with the Mets, 0.2 with a 7.62 ERA this year, and 1B Jake Lamb is 10-f0r-37 with 4 homers against the Canadian righty. Tied at 1, Juan Pulido hit a walkoff homer off Alpha Quivers and the Mets won the finale 2-1.

Soroka pitched great, and the impending free agent went 8 innings with 4 hits, a run, 2 walk, and 4 strikeouts. Alpha Quivers struck out the first batter he faced before allowing the homer.

Guess how we scored the only run? Mike Soroka hit a solo homer and he literally did whatever he could to win the game. Billy Williamson was 1-for-3 with a double. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-3. That's all the offense...

It's, offensive?

We get tomorrow off and will head to Philly to face the Phillies.

August 20th, 2026: With the day off, we headed to Philly to face the Phillies, who sit 4 games behind us. We'd see Josh Wolf (5-6, 4.46 ERA), Josh Weske (6-4, 3.46 ERA), and Bobby Stiles (5-9, 3.98 ERA).

August 22nd, 2026: Juan Ramirez is off to Greensboro to begin a rehab assignment. I may leave him there until rosters expand, but we'll see.

We opened a criticla series with Jake Florence (6-6, 3.94 ERA, 1.55 WHIP) taking on Josh Wold (5-6, 4.46 ERA, 1.22 WHIP) in a battle of the two of the top three teams in the NL East. Former #3 overall pick Tyler Callihan absolutely feasts off Florence, hitting .524 with 3 hoemrs. A majority of the feasting came from my offense, that won the opener 10-4 while outhitting them 13-4.

Florence allowed all 4 runs and three of the hits in 2.1 innings with 3 hits, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts as he's seen his ERA rise over 4 for the first time since April 9th. Brennan Malone got the win, 2.2 innings with 4 strikeouts. Ernesto Estrella and Danny Niewald both tossed 2 innings. Estrella allowed a hit, walk, and struck out 3, while Niewald struck out 1.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 3-for-5 and a triple away from the cycle with 2 runs scored. Thomas Dillard was 2-for-5 with a run scored, double, and 3 RBI's. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-4 with a walk and solo homer. Jarred Kelenic was 2-for-3 with 2 runs, an RBI, walk, and sac-fly. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a double. Billy Williamson was 1-for-5 with a two run homer.

CL Edwin Diaz recored his 300th career save today. Now a Dodger, the 5-Time All-Star has pitched in 703 games with a 2.71 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with 1,113 strikeouts and 225 walks in 736.2 innings.

August 23rd, 2026: I sent Hyo-jin Yaung to AAA for rehab until roster expansion.

Former Marlins 1st Round Pick Josh Weske (6-4, 3.46 ERA, 1.10 WHIP) took on Devon Peterson (9-6, 4.06 ERA, 1.27 WHIP) in the middle game. Thomas Dillard hasn't faced Weske too much, but is 3-for-4 with 3 homers. The Phillies managed to even the series with an 8-5 win.

Peterson allowed 4 runs in 4.2 innings off 4 hits, a walk, and 4 strikeouts. Ernesto Estrella allowed 2 runs in an inning off a hit, walk, and strikeout. Josh Watson allowed 3 hits and a run while getting just 1 out. Niewald got 1 out as well, with 2 hits, a run, and walk.

Vladdy was 3-for-5 with a solo homer, double, and 2 RBI's. Thomas Dillard was 2-for-3 with a two run homer (not off Weske, he left with an injury the batter before Dillard's first at bat) with a double and walk. Jarred Kelenic was 2-for-3 with 2 runs, a double, and 2 walks.

August 24th, 2026: Former Marlin Tyler Mahle is out for the rest of this year and likely the start of next year with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament. He was a poor 3-13 with a 6.65 ERA in 26 games started.

The White Sox will be without talented young closer Nehemiah Smithbrown for the year with a torn labrum. He won't be ready for the start of next year, but had 25 saves and a 2.90 ERA in 77.2 innings with an even 100 strikeouts.

We moved up one more spot to 2nd in the Power Rankings, and hold a 4 game lead over the Braves with our 75-50 record.

The rubber match saw Steve Paustian (8-6, 4.11 ERA, 1.31 WHIP) battle Bobby Stiles (5-9, 3.98 ERA, 1.26 WHIP). After a 60 minute rain delay in the 5th, the Phillies got a run that helped them win the finale 3=2. They should've suspended the game...

Paustian pitched fine, 4 innings with a hit, run, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Brennan Malone went an inning with 2 hits, a run, and a strikeout. Jorge Moya got the loss, an inning with a hit, run, and strikeout.

Jarred Kelenic was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 1-for-4 with a double, run scored, and RBI. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-3 with a walk.

Twins 2B Kleyber Rodriguez was 5-for-6 in a 14-5 win over the White Sox. The Rookie switch hitter is hitting .293/.374/.380 with 11 steals, 2 homers, and 15 RBI's in 150 at bats.

Nationals SP Cole Ragans tossed a 7-hit shutout in a 9-0 win over the Astros.

Luckily, our road trip is over, and we're headed back home to host the Padres. We'll see Chris Rodriguez (12-3, 3.63 ERA), Jeff Slezak (5-6, 4.21 ERA), and MacKenzie Gore (9-7, 4.01 ERA).
