August 25th-August 30th
August 25th, 2026: The Royals will be without veteran reliever Arodys Vizcaino for the rest of the season with a torn labrum. He's likely to miss most of if not all of next year as well, and combine that with a poor season (2-2 with a 5.83 ERA), this might mark the end of his big league career.
The Padres come to town for three, and the opener will see Jordan Montgomery (10-4, 3.07 ERA, 1.09 WHIP) take on Chris Rodriguez (12-3, 3.63 ERA, 1.17 WHIP). Down 3-1 headed into the 9th, we got three in the 9th to walkoff winners, 4-3.
Montgomery pitched well, 7 innings with 4 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), 2 walks, and 7 strikeouts. Igancio Hinojos, Sanshiro Onuma, and Josh Watson each faced 1 batter and got them out in the 8th. Alpha Quivers got the win, an inning with a strikeout.
Billy Wiliamson was 1-for-3 with a solo homer, walk, and two RBI's. Jarred Kelenci was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored. Jhon Solarte was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Thomas Dillard was 0-for-1, but walked three times, including the game winner.
August 26th, 2026: Red Sox lefty Tyler Holton is out for the rest of the year and part of next year with a torn rotator cuff. He had a rough season, 0-2 with a 8.80 ERA in 32 relief appearences.
The middle games saw Mike Soroka (5-7, 3.79 ERA, 1.27 WHIP) face rookie Jeff Slezak (5-6, 4.21 ERA, 1.30 WHIP). This game took 10 innings, but we had another walk off and won 5-4.
Soroka went 5 innings, allowing 9 hits, 4 runs, and a walk with 3 strikeouts. The pen combined for 5 innings with a hit, walk, and 6 strikeouts. Quivers got the win again, 2 innings with a hit, walk, and 3 strikeouts. He has an impressive 2.5 pWAR this year as a reliever.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 2-for-4 with a homer, 2 runs, 2 RBI's, and a walk. Jhon Solarte was 2-for-4 wiht a walk, a steal, 2 runs, and a triple. Billy Williamson was 2-for-3 with a walk. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
August 27th, 2026: We looked to finish the sweep with Jake Florence (6-6, 4.16 ERA, 1.56 WHIP) looking to bounce back against fellow 27-year-old MacKenzie Gore (9-7, 4.01 ERA, 1.15 WHIP). Another extra inning game, but the Padres managed to edge us 3-2.
Florence was solid, 7+ innings with 5 hits, a run, 2 walks, and 7 strikeouts. Onuma allowed a homer to the only batter he faced. Jorge Moya struck out 4 and walked 1 in 1.2 innings. Danny Niewald got the loss, an inning with 2 hits, a run, walk, and strikeout.
Cole Roederer was 1-for-5 with a solo hoemr. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with a double and RBI. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-3 with a walk and run scored.
We headed to Washington to face the Nationals for a three game series. We'd see Cole Ragans (10-11, 3.71 ERA), Gage Hinsz (13-4, 3.87 ERA), and Jhon Vergara (5-7, 5.27 ERA).
August 28th, 2026: We opened the series in our nation's capital with Devon Peterson (9-7, 4.18 ERA, 1.27 WHIP) facing Cole Ragans (10-11, 3.71 ERA, 1.33 WHIP). Deshawn Hardamon hits Ragans well, 8-for-18 with a home run. We got six in the fourth, and that's all we needed in the 6-3 win.
Peterson left with forearm inflammation, and will head to the DL for about 2 weeks. He went 5.2 innings with 6 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks, and 5 strikeouts.
Josh Watson and Igancio Hinojos got holds while Ernesto Estrealla earned the save. They combined for 3.1 innings with 2 hits, a walk, and a strikeout.
Seth Beer was 2-for-4 with a three run homer. Billy Williamson was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4 with a run scored, double, and RBI. Jhon Solarte was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 1-for-4 with a double and run scored. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-4 with a run scored and RBI.
August 29th, 2026: I recalled Luis Ardon from AAA to replace Peterson on the roster. He'd fill the 5th spot in the rotation.
We opened the series with Steve Paustian (8-6, 4.05 ERA, 1.29 WHIP) taking on Gage Hinsz (13-4, 3.87 ERA, 1.33 WHIP). Paustian is 2-1 against the Nats with a 2.31 ERA this year. It was close, but rookie Alex Guerrero hit a walk off homer off Quivers and the Nationals won 3-2.
Paustian went 5 innings with 5 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Quivers faced just 1 batter, Guerrero, in the loss.
Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Seth Beer walked 3 times and scored a run. Jordy Barley came off the bench for him, and was 0-for-1 with a steal and run scored. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-3 with a walk and RBI.
August 30th, 2026: Here's something that doesn't make sense: I climaed OF Daylen Lile off waivers from the Yankees.
Now, that doesn't seem to strange, right? Well, he's rated a 2.5/4.5* and every other team in the league passed on him. He's jsut 23, a lefty, and pretty good at everything excpet hitting homers, and when I tried trading for him in the offseason really all the Yankees would accept is Juan Ramirez or Rogelio Maldonado.
I'd let Lile stay DFA'd until rosters expand in just 2 days.
We looked to win the series with Jordan Montgomerly (10-4, 3.04 ERA, 1.07 WHIP) facing Jhon Vergara (5-7, 5.27 ERA, 1.40 WHIP). The pitching was brilliant, and we shut them out 3-0.
Montgomery went 5.2 innings with 4 hits, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Josh Watson, Sanshiro Onuma, Iganico Hinojos, and Jorge Moya got holds before Alpha Quivers struck out the side in the 9th to earn the save.
Vladdy was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Cole Roederer was 1-for-4 with a 2-run double. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Down in AAA, Austin Hendrick was 5-for-6 in a 8-6 win over the Round Rock Express.
Kris Bryant hit his 400th career homer as the Cubs beat the Pirates 604. The 34-year-old and former #2 overall pick is still going strong, and is a career .271/.373/.512 hitter with 1,118 RBI's in 6,677 at bats as a Cubby.
We're headed home to face the Phillies for four. We'd see Steve Fettig (13-6, 3.01 ERA), Josh Wolf (6-7, 4.45 ERA), Aaron Nola (4-8, 5.14 ERA), and Jim Gilbert (12-2, 3.03 ERA).
