September 15th-September 20th
September 15th, 2026: We opened the series at Miller Park with the red hot Jordan Montgomery (12-4, 2.85 ERA, 1.10 WHIP) facing Alfredo Rivera (11-11, 3.54 ERA, 1.14 WHIP). Honestly, it seems like Montgomery almost always gets better with age. He wan't great, but we managed to take the opener 7-5 with help from a 4 run 7th.
Montgomery went 6 innings with 7 hits, 5 runs, a walk, and 7 strikeouts. Ernesto Estrella got the win, an inning with a walk and 2 strikeouts. Sanshiro Onuma and Hyo-jin Yaung got holds before Alpha Quivers got his 42nd save of the year.
Daylen Lile was 2-for-5 with a double, triple, run scored, steal, and 2 RBI's. Seth Beer was 1-for-3 with a solo homer, a sac-fly, and a hit by pitch. Jhon Solarte hit a pinch hit solo home rin the 8th, Billy Williamson was 1-for-4 with a walk and double. Jake Taylor was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Austin Hendrick got a pinch hit double in the 8th, and later scored.
September 16th, 2026: Rangers righty and former Marlin Jake Junis is getting surgery to remove bone chips in his elbow, and will miss the rest of the year. He was 3-7 with a 5.56 ERA in 19 starts.
The Brewers looked to clinch a playoff birth with Victor Mederos (9-9, 4.09 ERA, 1.25 WHIP) facing Mike Soroka (5-10, 4.33 ERA, 1.34 WHIP) who has really struggled as of late. We got three quick runs and never gave up the lead in a 6-4 win.
Soroka went 6 innings with 3 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Marc Bjork allowed 2 runs in 1.2 innings with 3 htis, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Jorge Moya finished the 8th to get a hold, and Alpha Quivers struck out 2 in the 9th for the save. Quivers has now struck out 100 in 64 innings for an impressive 14.1 K/9.
Isaac Nunez was 2-for-3 with a walk, double, homer, and 2 RBI's. Billy Williamson was 1-for-2 with an RBI, double, 2 walks, and a steal. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-3 with 2 runs, 2 RBI's, and a double. Seth Beer was 1-for-3 with 2 runs, a walk, and a double. Jarred Kelenic was 1-for-3 with a walk and run scored.
September 16th, 2026: Rockies SP Forrest Whitley is out for the year with bone chips in his elbow. He was 7-11 with a 5.44 ERA with 144 strikeouts in 134 innings.
The Baltimore Orioles become the first team to clinch a playoff spot, and will be able to defend their title. At 94-55, they have an 11.5 game lead over the Rays. The Orioles lineup is so scary that the top four guys in their lineup are all under 30 and 5 stars.
Just like the prevoius two series, we looked for the sweep heading into the finale. Jake Florence (6-7, 4.16 ERA, 1.57 WHIP) took on Shane Baz (6-7, 4.70 ERA, 1.28 WHIP) in the finale. Unlike the past two series, we were able to finish the sweep, and we beat the Crew 5-1.
Florence went 6.1 innings with 3 hits, 2 walks, and 10 strikeouts. Josh Watson allowed a run, hit, and 2 walks in an inning.
Rodolfo Medrano was 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles, an RBI, and run scored. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-3 with a walk, steal, and RBI. Deshawn Hardamon 2-for-4 with a double, run scored, and RBI. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-5 with a double and run scored. Seth Beer was 2-for-4 with a walk.
We're headed home for a three game set with the already eliminated New York Mets. We'll see Livio Montella (10-4, 2.72 ERA), Alex Lange (8-3, 4.02 ERA), and Noah Syndergaard (8-7, 2.77 ERA).
September 18th, 2026: I made my callups, purchasing the contract of 3B Dansby Swanson and CL Joe Kramer.
Kramer, 23, was a 1st Round Pick back in 2022 and was #36 overall. Here's what I wrote about him:
1st Round, 36th Overall: SP Joe Kramer (3.5): Consider this a trade for Zach Davies, as this is the pick I recieved for him filing for free agency. Kramer is just 18, but has a higher ceiling then Davies. He's got three plus pitches, is a durable arm that can get you late into games, and is a well rounded pitcher who always keeps the ball on the ground. He's throwing consistently 90-92 at such a young age, and was named Arizona High School Player of the Year with a perfect 10-0 record and 0.98 ERA with 163 K's in 101.1 innings.
Let's call that trade a win. Kramer may not have developed into a starter, but he's still adurable arm that throws a little harder now (91-93) with elite stuff. He still has the plus fastball and sinker, but that plus change up is more like a non-existant change up. He's rated a 2.5/4.5 and does a great job of inducing groundballs.
Swanson, 32, was a minor league free agent that I signed who was a long time Brave. I think he's extremely overrated in real life, but he's a decent 2.5* in this game with elite defense at the hot corner, and should fill in well for Vladdy. He also hit .378/.416/.535 with 2 homers and 18 RBI's in AAA, so there is that.
Milwaukee still ended up in the playoffs, and will head to the playoffs for the first time the first time since 2011. At 86-63, they have a 14 game lead over the Cubs.
The Colorado Rockies will not see them in the postseason, and have been officially eliminated. At 68-82, they are 16 games behind the Dodgres. They haven't made the playoffs since 2022 when they won the NL West, even after trading me Brendan Rodgers.
We opened up the series back at home with Devon Peterson (11-7, 4.23 ERA, 1.28 WHIP) facing Livio Montella (10-4, 2.72 ERA, 1.15 WHIP). Peterson has done well against the last place Mets, 2-0 with a 1.32 ERA. He was brilliant today, and we shut them out 2-0 to win our 90th game of the year.
Peterson went 6 with 7 hits, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Igancio Hinojos, Sanshiro Onuma, Ernesto Estrella, Danny Niewald, and Hyo-jin Yaung got holds before Alpha Quivers got the save.
Jake Taylor was 2-for-4 with a two run homer. Roberto Pena was 2-for-3. Daylen Lile was 0-for-2 with 2 walks and a steal. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-4 with a run scored.
Orioles SS Logan Davidson extended his hit streak to 20 games.
September 19th, 2026: We looked to keep rolling with Steve Paustian (10-7, 4.11 ERA, 1.30 WHIP) taking on Alex Lange (8-3, 4.02 ERA, 1.27 WHIP) who's pitching in his 74th game, although it'll be just his 3rd start. Swanson will hit 8th and man the hot corner in his Marlins debut. Down 5-3 in the 9th, we got two off closer Jamie Callahan to force extras. In the 11th, Ahmed Rosario hit an RBI single off Ignacio Hinojos and the Mets held the 6-5 lead.
Paustian went just 4 innings with 7 hits, 5 runs, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Brennan Malone tossed 3 mop up innings with 2 htis, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Hinojos got his first loss of the year, now 7-1 with 2 hits and a run scored.
Rodolfo Medrano was 2-for-6 with 2 RBI's. Seth Beer was 2-for-5. Juan Ramirez was 1-for-5 with a double. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-4 with a walk, triple, and run scored. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-5 with a double and run scored.
And just like that, Davidson's hit streak is over at 20.
September 20th, 2026: Vladdy suffered a setback, and will now not be ready for at least a week.
Somehow, Josh DeGroat will miss just 4 months with a torn rotator cuff. He was 2-1 with a save and a 3.75 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 24 innnings.
We needed to win the series in a nice ace-off, Jordan Montgomery (12-4, 3.04 ERA, 1.11 WHIP) taking on Noah Syndergaard (8-7, 2.77 ERA, 0.95 WHIP). Montgomery has done well against the Mets, 4-1 with a beautriful 1.48 ERA). We tried really hard to blow the game, but we held off the Mets to win the finale 5-4.
Montgomery went 5 innings with 4 hits, a run, and 11 strikeouts. Marc Bjork, Joseph Jarneski, and Hyo-jin Yaung got holds before Ignacio Hinojos got the save. Bjork allowed a run off 2 hits in the 6th inning. Yaung and Hinojos both pitched the 9th, the former getting 2 outs with a hit, run, and strikeout. The latter with 2 hits, a run, a walk, and a strikeout.
Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 doubles. Jarred Kelenic was 2-for-4 with a double, steal, and run scored. Rodolfo Medrano was 1-for-4 with a homer and 2 RBI's. Juan Ramirez was 1-for-3 with a hit by pitch and steal. Seth Beer was 1-for-4 with a double and RBI.
We get tomorrow off, and we'll use it to head to Arizona to begin our last road trip of the year!
