September 21st-September 27th
Septemebr 21st, 2026: Rays reliever Francisco Rios is undergoing elbow reconstruction surgery and likely won't pitch again until spring training in 2028. The 31-year-old was 4-2 with a 5.16 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 75 innings.
The Power Rankings rank us 2nd in the majors. At 91-61, our magic number is down to just 6 and only the Orioles (95-57) have a better record.
Ryas LF Steele Walker was 5-for-6 in a 13-8 win over the Orioles.
We arrived in Arizona, where we will start a three game series tomorrow. We'll see Jhoan Duran (4-13, 5.41 ERA), Esteban Orozco (1-1, 4.50 ERA), and Steven Gingery (13-7, 3.93 ERA) in our second to last road series of the regular season.
September 22nd, 2026: Mike Soroka (6-10, 4.28 ERA, 1.32 WHIP) took the mound against Jhoan Duran (4-13, 5.41 ERA, 1.41 WHIP) to start our series in Arizona. We scored 6 in the 8th and just barely held off the Diamondbacks in a 9-8 win.
Soroka went 4.2 innings with 9 hits, 5 runs, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Marc Bjork got the win, 0.2 innings with a hit. Jorge Moya allowed a run in the 8th off a hit and strikeout. Alpha Quivers got the save, striking out the side in the 9th dedspite allowing 2 hits and runs.
Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-4 with a homer and 3 RBI's. Juan Ramirez was 1-for-5 with a steal and run scored. Jarred Kelenic was 1-for-4 with a walk and two run homer. Thomas Dillard was 2-for-4 with 2 runs, 2 RBI's, and a homer. Cole Roederer pinch hit for Marc Bjork in the 8th, and got two at bats, 2-for-2 with a double to leadoff the big inning, as well as a run scored and RBI.
Red Sox RF Bryce Harper hit his 500th career homer. At 33, he also has a chance to break Barry Bonds' home run record. He's a career .287/.403/.537 hitter with 1,283 RBI's in 2,144 games with the Nationals, Phillies, and Red Sox.
September 23rd, 2026: Phillies LHP Jimmy Nash tore his flexor tnedon in his elbow, and will miss the rest of this year and likely the start of next year. He had a 6.08 ERA in 50 relief appearences.
A little playoff news, the Orioles clinched the AL East, and we clinched a playoff birth. Granted, the Wild Card, and I want the division, but it's progress. At 92-61, we are just 4 games away from our single season record, and have a nice 6.5 game lead over Atlanta. It's also our 6th straight playoff appearence.
We looked to inch closer to clinching the division with Jake Florence (7-7, 3.98 ERA, 1.53 WHIP) taking on Steven Ginvery (13-7, 3.93 ERA, 1.25 WHIP). It was a close one, but we edged the now 85-70 Diamondbacks 4-2.
Florence went 8, allowing 5 hits, 2 runs (1 eanred), and 1 walk while striking out 3. Quivers was much better today, just a hit and strikeout in the 9th as he earned his 46th save.
Bobby Williamson was 1-for-4 with a two run homer. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4 with a two run homer. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-4 with a double. Jarred Kelenic was 1-for-3 with a walk adn run scored. Thomas Dillard was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored. Jhon Solarte was 2-for-3 with a walk.
September 24th, 2026: The Seattle Mariners are headed to the playoffs. At 87-68, they will at least be a Wild Card, but at 87-68, they currently have a 3.5 game lead over the A's.
We looked to finish the sweep with Devon Peterson (12-7, 4.07 ERA, 1.29 WHIP) taking on Zach Linginfelter (8-9, 5.00 ERA, 1.31 WHIP). We got 3 quick runs in the first and cruised to a nice 6-1 win to finish off the sweep.
Peterson went 6 with 4 hits, a run, a walk, and 6 strikeouts. Ignacio Hinojos and Brennan Malone combined for 3 innings, a hit, and 3 strikeouts.
Jarred Kelenic was 2-for-3 with 2 runs, 2 RBI's, a homer, 2 walks, and a steal. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-5 with a run scored, 2 RBI's, a double, and a steal. Seth Beer was 1-for-4 with a double, run scored, and walk. Roberto Pena was 1-for-4 with a double and RBI.
We're off to Colorado for our final road series of the year. We'll see Jay Groome (8-11, 5.56 ERA), A.J. Puck (10-4, 4.18 ERA), and Eric Dawson (3-2, 4.58 ERA) where we will hopefully clinch the East.
September 25th, 2018: The Dodgers will be without SP Mike Clevinger for the year with a partially torn UCL. In 20 starts this year, he was 3-9 with a 4.75 ERA and 1.42 WHIP.
The Rays with Manager Don Mattingly, yes, my ex,, have clinched a playoff spot. At 86-69, they will be an AL Wild Card, considering they are 11.5 games out of first. They will look to defend their title. Ironically enough, the last two titles have been one by Florida teams.
We opened the series at Coors field in a likely slugfest between Steve Paustian (10-7, 4.31 ERA, 1.33 WHIP) and Jay Groome (8-11, 5.56 ERA, 1.40 WHIP). Scoring wasn't as common as you'd think, and a three run 7th helped the Rox tame the opener 5-3.
Juan Ramirez left with back tightness, and while he wouldn't head to the DL, I wouldn't play him for likely the rest of the season.
Paustian pitched fine, 6 innings with 5 hits, 2 runs, and 2 strikeouts. Sanschiro Onuma was charged with the loss, 3 hits and 3 runs with a walk in 0.1 innings.
Jarred Kelenic was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Dansby Swanson was 1-for-3 with a walk and two run homer, his first hit with us. Cole Roederer was 1-for-4 with a double.
Royals slugger Chris DeVito hit his 300th career homer. The 31-year-old is a career .261/.327/.538 hitter with 846 RBI's in 3,927 at bats with Kansas City.
September 26th, 2026: The Twins clinched the AL West today. At 84-72, they have a 7 game lead over the White Sox. This will be their 5th straight playoff appearence and 4th straight Central title. The top four in their rotation is insane, and they could actually be a tough team in the AL.
We looked to even the series with Jordan Montgomery (13-4, 3.00 ERA, 1.10 WHIP) taking on A.J. Puk (10-4, 4.18 ERA, 1.11 WHIP). It took 10 innings before Luis Liberto hit a walk-off single on Ignacio Hinojos and the Rockies won 7-6.
Montgomery went 6 innings with 5 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks, and just 1 strikeout. Jorge Moya had a rough outing, 0.2 innings with 3 hits and 3 runs. Hinojos allowed the 1 run off 2 hits and 2 walks with a strikeout and fly out.
Dansby Swanson was 1-for-4 with a three run homer. Billy Williamson was 1-for-5 with a steal and run scored. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-3 with a double and run scored. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-3 with 2 runs scored, a hit by pitch, and a double. Seth Beer was 1-for-4 with 2 RBI's.
September 27th, 2026: I activated Vladimir Guerrero Jr. from the DL.
But the bigger news is that we clinched the NL East for the 2nd time in Marlins history. At 94-63, we have a 6 game lead over the Braves, our next opponent.
Our last road game of the regular season took place between Mike Soroka (6-10, 4.43 ERA, 1.35 WHIP) and Eric Dawson (3-2, 4.58 ERA, 1.45 WHIP). It was a close one with 19 runs scored, and we edged the hosts 10-9 to escape with the finale.
Soroka was hit pretty hard in likely his last start as a Marlin, 5 runs in 3.2 innings with 6 hits, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Joe Kramer made his big league debut, 1.2 innings with 3 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), 4 walks, and a strikeout. Not the best debut ever, but everyone starts somehwhere. Marc Bjork allowed 2 runs in 0.2 innings with 2 walks, a hit, and srikeout. Joseph Jarneski got the win, Ignacio Hinojos and Hyo-jin Yaung got holds before Alpha Quivers got his 47th career save.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 2-for-3 with a walk, run scored, and RBI in his return to the lineup. IsaacNunez was 1-for-4 with a walk, homer, and 3 RBI's. Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-3 with 2 runs, a double, sac-fly, hut by pitch, and an RBI. Billy Williamson was 2-for-5 with 2 runs, a double, and a walk. Daylen Lile was 1-for-4 with a two run homer. Seth Beer was 1-for-3 with 2 walks, a double, and a run scored. Austin Hendrick had a pinch hit, 2-run triple and scored in the 8th.
Nationals CF Trejyn Fletcher hit three homers in a 10-6 win over the Phillies.
We're headed home to face the Braves for four, who we have a 50% chance of seeing in the NLDS. We'll face Mack Anglin (6-5, 3.28 ERA), Eric Burtrum (1-1, 1.73 ERA), Ty Madden (11-9, 3.53) and an unknown 4th starter. I'd likely mix things up in each game, but I'd love to win 97 games this year.
