TARPONS, CHASE AGREE to 6 YEARS 28.8 MILLION
The Florida Tarpons and star 3B Ben Chase have agreed on a contract extension that will keep the young slugger in Florida through the 2017 season. The contract is for 6 seasons and a base salary of 4.8 million each year.
GM'S OFFICE
I would be comfortable betting he finishes in the top 3 more than twice in the 6 years of this deal. Think about that and then this, he will not be in the top 25 in salary when the deal kicks in. Maybe one of the top 10 players in the game. Insane value for the contract. Our 2012 payroll sits at 52.9 million if I pick up the Samvdio option (3.5) and go to arbitration with Bursey (proj 3.5). I am going to try very hard to get Leith under contract and if Samvdio is reasonable I'll try that as well.
