August 23rd-August 28th

August 23rd, 2019: We opened up the series hosting the Blue Jays with Shelby Miller (10-7, 3.63 ERA, 1.32 WHIP) taking on Marcus Stroan (8-6, 4.23 ERA, 1.47 WHIP) who is 2-0 with a 5.17 ERA against us. Schoop is just 1-for-19 against him since 2018. Tied at two, Stroman was still in the game in the 9th. Trey Mancini hit a walk-off single and we won the opener 3-2.

Boone Logan left with an injury. Not the biggest lost if we are being honest.

Miller went 5.1 innings with 6 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks, and 5 strikeout. The pen tossed 4.2 scorless innings with just 1 hit, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts.

David Peralta was 2-for-3 with a double, walk, and he scored the winning run. Trey Mancini was 2-for-4 with the game winnin RBI. Andrelton Simmons was 2-for-2 with a run scored and steal. Anthony Alford was 1-for-3 with a double, hit by pitch, run scored, and RBI.

August 24th, 2019: Boone Logan tore his flexor tendon, and will miss 11 months. The 35-year-old is not likely to recieve a contract after he files for free agency at the end of the year. I recalled LHP Aaron Bummer from AAA.

We looked to win the series a day early with Kevin Gausman (9-7, 5.17 ERA, 1.46 WHIP) facing Tyler Anderson (5-7, 6.19 ERA, 1.63 WHIP), who we put up a ton of runs against. Down 4-1, we got three in the 9th to force extras. In the 12th, Lewis Brinson had a walk-off ground out agaisnt former Oriole Will Harris.

Gausman allowed 5 hits and 4 runs in 6 innings with 3 walks and 7 strikeouts. Bryan Shaw struck out the side in the 7th. Ryan Burr made his big league debit, an inning with a strikeout. In total, the pen tossed 6 hitless innings with a single walk and 8 strikeouts.

Victor Reyes was 3-for-5 with a double, walk, run scored, and steal. David Peralta hit a pinch hit two run homer in the 9th. Trey Mancini was 1-for-5 with a solo homer. Nolan Arenado was 1-for-4 with an RBI, 2 walks, and a double. Anthony Alford was 1-for-5 with a walk, double, and run scored. Michael A. Taylor was 1-for-3 with a run scored and 2 walks.

Royals SP Trevor Oaks tossed a 3-hit shutout in a 2-0 win over the Indians.

August 25th, 2019: We looked to finish the sweep with Miles Mikolas (10-5, 3.22 ERA, 1.31 WHIP) battling Colin McHugh (1-4, 8.38 ERA, 1.91 WHIP). No walkoff magic today, and were topped 2-1.

Mikolas pitched well, 6 innings with 4 hits, 2 runs, a walk, and 5 strikeouts. Both Alex Colome and Bryan Shaw struck out the side with a hit and walk.

Chance Sisco was 2-for-4 with a double, run scored, and steal. David Peralta was 1-for-4 with a double. Anthony Alford and Trey Mancini were both 1-for-3 with a walk.

Mariners 3B Kyle Seager was 5-for-6 in a 10-9 win over the Diamondbacks. His teammate LaMonte Wade was also 5-for-6.

Tomorrow is a day off before we head to New York to play the Mets in a two game series.

August 26th, 2019: Brothers Kyle and Corey Seager were named AL and NL Player of the Week, in what I would think is the first time brothers won Player of the Week in the same week.

Former Oriole and current Cub Jeremy Jeffress is out for the year with a torn rotator cuff, although he should be ready for Opening Day. He had a 3.64 ERA in 47 innings with 33 strikeouts.

We moved up a spot to 6th in the Power Rankings, and sit at 72-53, good for fourth best in the AL.

Headed to the Big Apple, we'd face Matt Shoemaker (6-10, 5.54 ERA) and Chris Flexen (1-2, 4.94 ERA).

August 27th, 2019: I claimed my former utility man Erick Gonzalez off waivers from the Brewers. He'd stay DFA'd until rosters expand.

Another former Oriole, former reliever Brad Brach, is out for the year with shoulder inflammation. In 72 appearences, he struck out 76 hitters in 57.2 innings, but with a 5.31 ERA.

Fresh off an off day, ace Aaron Sanchez (9-6, 2.77 ERA, 0.96 WHIP) took on Matt Shoemaker (6-10, 5.54 ERA, 1.38 WHIP). We scored early and often and won the opener 7-2.

Sanchez was great, 6.1 innings with 6 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), a walk, and 5 strikeouts. Ryan Burr tossed 2 perfect innings with a strikeout.

Trey Mancini was 2-for-5 with a two run homer. Anthony Alford was 2-for-4 with 2 doubles, a walk, run scored, and RBI. David Peralta was 1-for-4 with a two run homer. Andrelton Simmons was 2-for-4 with a double, run scored, and RBI. Chance Sisco was 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI. Lewis Brinson was 1-for-4 with a run scored.

August 28th, 2019: Carlos Rodon will head to A+ Frederick to begin a rehab assignment.

White Sox lefty Jaime Garcia is out for the year with a ruptured ulnar collateral ligament. Chances are, the veteran will not play at all next year either. He was 10-1, but had a 5.55 ERA in 82.2 innings with 66 strikeouts with the Dodgers and Sox.

We looked to finish the quick sweep with Reynaldo Lopez (12-4, 3.72 ERA, 1.18 WHIP) taking on Chris Flexen (1-2, 4.94 ERA, 1.79 WHIP). It was a tight one with late scoring, but we held them off 3-2.

Lopez got the win, 7.2 innings with 3 hits, a run, walk, and 8 strikeouts. Bummer and Blake Treinen got holds while Joakim Soria got the save. Treinen allowed a solo homer with a walk and strike out.

Nolan Arenado was 2-for-4 with a pair of double and an RBI. David Peralta was 1-for-3 with a walk and solo homer. Trey Mancini was 1-for-3 with 2 runs and a walk.

Cubs lefty Jose Quintana continues his histroic season with a 3-hit shutout against the Reds. Twins CF Zack Granite extended his hit streak to 20 games.

We get tomorrow off before heading to Tampa to finish August and start September.
