Can't make this **** up.
Wow, I glossed over this just now but reading a bit more about it reveals that it's a mess in more ways than one.

1) First, yes, this guy is a disaster for the Mets. What a waste. Other than the decent year that he had in 2016 for them, and "decent" is the word for it given his talent, he's been an expensive mistake and now he appears to be on one of those career-ending injury spirals.

2) Speaking of which, I often wonder how players who are recovering from a major injury can develop another problem in other parts of their bodies while supposedly under close medical and rehab supervision. (See Jacoby Ellsbury: oblique > hip > lower back > plantar fasciitis.)

3) So Cespedes is coming along from his latest quadriceps injury, is activated, and suddenly it is revealed that he has heel calcifications? The Mets either did not know of this condition or agreed to ignore it while it could have been treated concurrently with the quad injury? (At least to some extent; now we are looking at 8-10 months recovery.)

4) How does Cespedes get cleared to play anyway? For one game. Rather than have that happen, it would have been better to just quietly keep the guy on the DL (see Jacoby Ellsbury).

5) Cespedes himself announces this latest setback to the press? His own manager is left unaware and is forced to face the media by himself to answer questions? None of the three "acting GM's" were available to give him support? Don't care that there is a follow-up press conference today; Callaway should not have been thrown under the bus by his player or his organization like that.

The Mets are one sorry monkey rodeo these days.
