September 5th-September 11th

September 5th, 2019: We opened a series hosting the Indians with Miles Mikolas (10-6, 3.29 ERA, 1.30 WHIP) taking on Robert Zarate (1-3, 7.82 ERA, 1.82 WHIP). It was a close one, but they edged us 2-1.

Mikolas pitched well, 5 innings with 5 hits, a run, a walk, and 5 strikeouts. Blake Treinen got the loss, an inning with a hit, run scored, and 4 strikeouts. Yep, he struck out four hitters in the 9th...

Jose Peraza was 1-for-4 with a triple and run scored. Anthony Alford was 1-for-3 with a walk.

September 6th, 2019: We looked to bounce back with Aaron Sanchez (11-6, 2.66 ERA, 0.94 WHIP) taking on Carlos Carrasco (10-5, 3.78 ERA, 1.17 WHIP). It took 11 innings today to lose a one run game, as they edged us 4-3.

Sanchez was great, 6 innings with 6 hits, a run, and 8 strikeouts. Jake Diekman allowed 2 runs and 2 hits in 0.2 innings with a strikeout. Treinen got another loss, an inning with a hit and run.

Anthony Alford was 4-for-5 with a double, 2 runs scored, and a steal. David Peralta was 1-for-5 with a two run homer. Trey Mancini was 2-for-5.

September 7th, 2019: We really needed to bounce back with Kevin Gausman (9-8, 5.30 ERA, 1.45 WHIP) taking on Trevor Bauer (14-6, 3.84 ERA, 1.21 WHIP). Down 4-3 heading into the 9th, we managed to tie the game up to force extras. In the bottom of the 10th, David Peralta faced Tyler Olson, and hit a walk-off grand slam as we got our first win of the series 8-4.

Gausman went 5 innings with 4 hits, 2 runs, a walk, and 9 strikeouts. Alex Colome was charged with 2 runs in 1.1 innings with 3 hits and a strikeout. Erasmo Ramirez got the win, throwing just 2 pitched to get 3 outs. Pretty efficent.

Peralta had a monster game, a triple away from the cycle and 3-for-5 with 6 RBI's. Lewis Brinson was 1-for-5 with a solo homer and 2 runs scored. Andrelton Simmons was 3-for-5 with a double and 3 runs scored. Cahnce Sisco was 1-for-4 with a double. Nolan Arenado was 1-for-3 with a walk and hit by pitch. Jonathan Schoop was 1-for-4 with a walk and RBI. Anthony Alford was 1-for-3 with 2 runs and 3 walks.

I got the achievement "Grand Salami" for Peralta's home run.

Septemebr 8th, 2019: We looked to salvage the series with a split as Reynaldo Lopez (!3-5, 3.77 ERA, 1.16 WHIP) got Cody Anderson (8-3, 4.89 ERA, 1.45 WHIP). The Indians got 4 in the 8th to take the finale 7-3.

Lopez allowed 6 runs in 7.1 innings with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Alex Colome allowed 2 hits and a run without getting an out.

Peralta was 1-for-4 with a two run homer. Chance Sisco was 1-for-4 with a double. Trey Mancini was 1-for-4 witha doule and RBI. Anthony Alford was 1-for-3 with a walk, steal, and run scored. Andrelton Simmons was 1-for-3 with a walk and steal.

Astros RF Kyle Tucker was 5-for-5 in a 12-6 win over the Royals. The 22-year-old looks like a Rookie of the Year finalist.

We're off to Oakland for three against the A's, where we'll see Daniel Mengden (9-13, 4.91 ERA), Miguel Gonzalez (5-11, 6.36 ERA), and Sean Manea (10-7, 3.33 ERA).

September 9th, 2019: Down in AAA, Steve Wilkerson was named Player of the Week. He was 10-for-10 with 3 homers and 8 RBI's.

White Sox SP and former Oriole Nathan Eovaldi tore his ulnar collateral ligament, and will likely miss all of next year. He was 6-12 with a 5.73 combined ERA with us and the Sox.

At 78-59, we're now 4.5 games out of first and dropped all the way down to 10th in the Power Rankings.

We opened the series in Oakland with Shelby Miller (11-7, 3.77 ERA, 1.36 WHIP) taking on Daniel Medgden (0-13, 4.91 ERA, 1.29 WHIP). It was close, but we continued a rough stretch with a 7-5 loss.

Miller went 5.2 innings with 5 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Mychal Givens got the loss, 3 runs and 3 hits in 0.2 innings. Joakim Soria went 0.2 innings with a hit and 2 strikeouts.

Jonathan Schoop was 3-for-5 with 2 runs and 2 doubles, as well as an RBI. Trey Mancini was 2-for-5 with a double and RBI. Nolan Arenado was 2-for-5 with 2 runs and 2 doubles. Anthony Alford was 1-for-5 with a solo homer. Victor Reyes was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Lewis Brinson was 1-for-3 with a walk.

September 10th, 2019: The Cincinnati Reds were eliminated from participating in the playoffs. AT 53-85, they are 39.5 games behind the Cubs.

I made a few callups before the game. Austin Hays, Pedro Araujo, Lucas Sims, and Brandon Lowe.

We really needed to even the series with Miles Mikolas (10-6, 3.24 ERA, 1.29 WHIP) facing Miguel Gonzalez (5-11, 6.36 ERA, 1.59 WHIP). Both Brandon Lowe and Austin Hays were in the lineup, with Lowe making his big league debut. We got five in the first, including a Lowe 2-run homer in his first at bat, and won the middle game 8-4.

Mikolas went 6.2 innings with 6 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Soria got a hold, 1.1 innings wiht a hit and strikeout to lower his ERA to 1.15.

Lowe had a debut to remember, 3-for-4 with 2 runs, 3 RBI's, a walk, 2 doubles, and a homer. Hays was 1-for-4 with a run scored in his return to the bigs. Victor Reyes was 2-for-4 with 2 runs, an RBI, walk, a steal, and double. Trey Mancini was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Erick Gonzalez was 1-for-4 with a double and RBI.

September 11th, 2019: I sent LHP Josh Hader to AAA on a rehab assignment and recalled Ryan Meisinger.

Mets 3B Todd Frazier broke his kneecap, and may be out until Spring Training. He's an impending free agent.

The Tigers have been eliminated from the playofs. At 54-86, they trail Cleveland by 32.5 games.

We looked to win the series with Aaron Sanchez (!1-6, 2.62 ERA, 0.95 WHIP) taking on Sean Manaea (10-7, 3.33 ERA, 1.20 WHIP). They put up 5 in the 7th in the 9-0 shutout. Manea went the distance, allowing just 6 hits and a walk with 5 strikeouts.

Sanchez had a rough outing, 6 innings with 7 hits, 6 runs, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Jake Diekman allowed 3 runs off 2 hits in 2 innings with a walk and 2 strikeouts.

Nolan Arenado was 2-for-4. Trey Mancini was 1-for-4 with a double, but he grounded into two double plays. Anthony Alford was 1-for-3 with a walk. Andrelton Simmons was 1-for-3 with a steal.

We have just a 1 game lead on the first Wild Card, and will thankfully get tomorrow off to regroup. Hopefully, recalling Carlos Rodon from rehab will help with that.
