April 4th-April 11th
April 4th, 2027: Happy Opening Day! While Marlins baseball isn't back yet, the MLB regular season starts today! We are projected to finish 97-65, good for 2nd in the NL and 2nd in the East. The Phillies (100-62) are the only team projected better then us, and we are followed by Atlanta (84-78), Washington (77-85), and New York (76-86). Jarred Kelenic (.303/.389/.514, 21 HR's, 103 RBI's, 25 SB) and three pitchers, Jordan Montgomery (16-7, 3.15 ERA, 148 K's), Jake Florence (15-10, 3.50 ERA, 179 K's), and Devon Peterson (15-8, 3.56 ERA, 169 K's) are projected to be top players in the league.
The top 100 prospects were published today, and our very own SS Rogelio Maldonado was ranked #1 in the league. We also rank 11th in the league for systems, although just Jackson Miller (64th) is also in the top 100. Some other notables include 1B Sean Taylor (104th), CF Juan Toeldo (122nd), and LF Sergio Serrano (165th).
We start out season tomorrow against the Nationals, and will face Cole Ragans before an off day, followed by Clint Hinshaw and Gage Hinsz. The Nats selected Hinshaw 3rd overall in 2023, but I actually drafted him in the 4th round in 2020, although he decided not to sign with me.
April 5th, 2027: The Pirates signed LHP Zach Britton to a 1-year, $3,920,000 contract. The 39-year-old has played for five teams in the past five seasons, with Pittsbrgh being the 6th.
The Blue Jays signed SP German Marquez to a 1 year, $11.4 million contract.
We opened our year with Jake Florence taking on Cole Ragans. Our 2027 Opening Day Lineup is as follows: CF Lile, 2B Hardamon, 1B Horvath, RF Kelenic, C Dillard, SS Nunez, 3B Reid, LF Ramirez, P Florence. Opening Day couldn't be much more perfect, and Jake Florence was brilliant in a 4-0 shutout win.
Florence went 8 with just 4 hits, a walk, and 5 strikeouts. Luis Alcantra made his Marlins debut, 2 strikeouts in a perfect 9th.
Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-4 with a two run homer. Daylen Lile was 2-for-5 with a run scored. Thomas Dillard was 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with a double and run scored. Juan Ramirez was 2-for-3 with a triple and walk.
April 6th, 2027: Arizona signed C Alex Jackson to a 1-year, $2,560,000 contract. The Blue Jays signed RP's Andres Munoz (1-year, $3,560,000) and Trevor Gott (1-year, $5.4 million). Gott will be returning to the Jays.
April 7th, 2027: Game two of the season saw Steve Paustian face Clint Hinshaw, who's making his first career big league start after spending last year in the pen. Despite a 1 year age difference, Paustian has made 88 more starts then Hinshaw. The Nats really capitalized in the 5th and 6th, and they evened the opening series with a 8-4 win.
Paustian went 5 innings with 9 hits, 4 runs, a walk, and 6 strikeouts. Cho-yeong Hyoun made his Marlins debut, and allowed 2 hits, 3 runs, and 2 walks, while getting just 1 out. Marc Bjork allowed a run in 1.2 innings with 2 hits, a walk, and 4 strikeouts. Marc Bjork went 1.2 innings with 2 hits, a run, a walk, and 4 strikeotus.
Thomas Dillard was 2-for-4 with a base clearing double and a solo homer. Chris Reid was 1-for-3 with a walk, steal, and run scored. Jon Reid came off the bench and went 1-for-2 with a run scored.
Former Marlin Brennan Malone tossed a 4-hit shutout in a 2-0 win over the Rangers in his first start with Hsouston.
April 8th, 2027: We looked to win the opening series with Devon Peterson taking on Kyle Molnar. We got four in the first, and even though that was all we'd get, it was enough for a 4-2 win.
Peterson was solid, 7 innings with 7 hits, 7 strikeouts, 2 runs, and a walk. Riley Ferrell made his Marlins debut, pitching the 8th with a walk while earning the hold. Alpha Quivers got the save, an inning with a hit and strikeout in his first game of 2027.
Thomas Daillard was 2-for-4 with a three run homer, and he's homered in every game so far this year. Just for fun, he's on pace to hit 162 homers with 432 RBI's and will be worth 32.9 wins above replacement. Wouldn't that be the best way to enter Free Agency? Mac Horvath was 1-for-5 with a double and run scored. Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-4. Daylen Lile was 2-for-4 with a walk and run scored.
We're on to the Big Apple to face the Mets for three games. We'll see former Marlins Luis Ardon and Tyler Mahle, as well as the ace of the staff Noah Syndergaard (1-0, 0.00 ERA).
April 9th, 2027: We opened the Mets series with Jordan Montgomery taking on Luis Ardon. Monty is the longest tenured Marlin, and he's been with the organization since 2019. Not positive, but he likely has started the most games in Marlins history as well. The awful Mets have last year have started the season hot, and beat us 5-2 to improve to a perfect 4-0.
Montgomery allowed 7 hits and 4 runs in 5 innings with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Hyoun allowed an unearned run in 2 innings with 2 hits, a walk, and 2 strikeouts.
Juan Ramirez was 3-for-5 with 2 doubles. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Mac Horvath was 2-for-5 with an RBI and steal. Chris Reid was 2-for-4.s
April 10th, 2027: The Dodgers signed CL Nick Burdi to a 1-year, $4,320,000 contract.
We looked to even the series with Ignacio Hinojos making his first start as a Marlin against Tyler Mahle. We scored 7 in the first 2 innings to win the middle game 9-2.
Hinojos pitched well, 6.1 innings with 6 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks, and 8 strikeouts. Jared Taylor pitched in his first game as a Marlin, 2.2 innings with a hit and 3 strikeouts.
Daylen Lile was 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI's and a doubles. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-3 with a walk, hit by pitch, and grand slam (130 homers and 389 RBI's now...). Jarred Kelenic was 1-for-3 with 2 walks, 2 runs, and a solo homer. Juan Ramirez was 2-for-4 with 2 runs and a triple. Chris Reid was 1-for-2 with a homer, 3 runs, 2 RBI's, a walk, and hit by pitch.
I checked the Marlins game start leaders, with 205, he has the most in our history, ahead of Ricky Nolasco (197). Walker Buehler (140, 5th) is the only other of my players in the top 10. Monty also ranks third in ERA (3.39), although first for all pitchers with more then 1,000 innings, 3rd in wins (65), 2nd in pWAR (23.6), 2nd in innings (1,091), 2nd in BB/9 (2.2, Nolasco is 2.1), 2nd in strikeouts (950), t-1st (with Buehler) for K/BB (3.6), 2nd in WHIP (1.18), and 1st in rWAR (26.9).
April 11th, 2027: We looked to win the series with Jake Florence (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 0.63 WHIP) taking on Noah Syndergaard (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 0.94 WHIP) in an ace-off at Citi Field. The Mets got six in the sixth and won the finale 8-0.
Florence allowed 6 (4 earned) in 6 innings with 7 hits, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Jared Taylor allowed 2 runs in an inning with 2 hits and 2 walks. Juan Ramirez was 1-for-3 with a double. Jhon Solarte and Chris Reid were also 1-for-3.
Syndergaard went the distance, just thouse 3 hits with 10 strikeouts.
We're headed home to host the Braves in our first home series of the year. We'll see Lucas Sims (0-1, 5.79 ERA), Ty Madden (0-1, 9.00 ERA), and Justin Dunn (0-1, 21.00 ERA).
