April 12th-April 18th

April 12th, 2027: The first set of Power Rankings as us sit at 17th. At 3-3, I can't expect to be rankes high.

We started our first homestand, a long one, hosting the Braves and Lucas Sims (0-1, 5.79 ERA, 1.93 WHIP). Steve Paustian (0-1, 7.20 ERA, 2.00 WHIP) took the mound for us in our home opener of 2027. It was a close and high scoring affair, but it was tied at 8th in the seventh. If we didn't allow 5 in the fourth... Fast foward all the way to the 14th, and Chris Reid hit a walk off solo homer off former Marlin Touki Toussaint.

Paustian had a rough outing, 4 innings with 8 hits, 7 runs, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Alpha Quivers allowed the run in the 9th off a hit and strikeout. Cho-yeong Hyoun tossed 3 innings with a hit, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Jarred Taylor got the win, an inning with a walk and 2 strikeouts.

Reid was the hero, 3-for-7 with two homers and 4 RBI's. Jarred Kelenic was 3-for-6 with a double, triple, 2 runs, 3 RBI's, and a steal. Juan Ramirez was 2-for-6 with a homer, 3 runs scored, and a hit by pitch. Daylen Lile was 1-for-6 with a walk, 2 runs, and a steal. Jake Taylor was 1-for-5 with a double and walk.

April 13th, 2027: We looked to take the second game as well, with Devon Peterson (1-0, 2.57 ERA, 1.14 WHIP) taking on Ty Madden (0-1, 9.00 ERA, 1.75 WHIP). Another walkoff, as Jake Taylor hit a sac-fly off Eric Burtrum, and we won 5-4.

Thomas Dillard left with a bruised toe, but he'll likely just miss tomorrow. And, Taylor was his repalcement.

Peterson allowed 10 hits and 3 runs in 7 innings with a walk and 6 strikeouts. Riley Ferell allowed an unearned run in an inning with 2 hits. Alpha Quivers got the win with a walk and a strikeout.

Mac Horvath was 2-for-2 with a run scored, RBI, walk, and hit by pitch. Eric Kisela was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-4 with a double and RBI. Daylen Lile was 1-for-5 with a steal and run scored. Jarred Kelenic was 1-for-4 with a walk and run scored.

April 14th, 2027: I claimed former Marlin Tylor Megill off waivers and I optioned Cho-yeong Hyoun to AAA. Megill will replace Igancio Hinojos in the rotation.

Jordan Montgomery (0-1, 7.20 ERA, 1.80 WHIP) took on Justin Dunn (0-1, 21.00 ERA, 3.33 WHIP) as we looked to finish off the sweep. The pitching looked great today, and we shut them out 1-0 to finish the sweep.

Monty left after just 2.2 innings with a sore elbow, but he should be ready for his next start. The pen combined for 6.1 innings with 4 hits, 2 walks, and 7 strikeouts. Luis Alcantra tossed 1.1 innings with a walk and 4 strikeouts. Danny Niewald got the win, 1.1 innings with 2 hits and 2 strikeouts. Alpha Quivers got the save, an inning with a strikeout.

We had just 2 hits, the iggest a solo shot by Chris Reed, who's been extremely hot to start the year, hitting .360/.467/.840 with 4 hoemrs and 8 RBI's. He was 1-for-2 with a walk. Jhon Solarte had the other hit, a pinch hit double in the 8th.

Down in AA, Nate Bagwell was 5-for-6 in a 9-4 win over the Mississippi Braves.

Rockies starter Juan Coira tossed a 6-hit shut out in a 11-0 win over the Giants.

We get tomorrow off before the Phillies come to town for three.

April 15th, 2027: The Cubs returned Rule-5 Pick Chris Dito. The 28-year-old hit .500/.571/.833 in 6 at bats.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, we'll see Bobby Stiles (1-0, 2.57 ERA), Jim Gilbert (1-1, 3.21 ERA), and Josh Weske (2-0, 2.45 ERA) of the first place Phillies.

April 16th, 2027: I claimed LF Tyrese Ephron off waivers from the Pirates, optioned 1B Spencer Jones to AAA, and DFA'd 2B Anotni Flores.

The Blue Jays added another reliever, righty Edwin Diaz to a 1-year, $31.5 million contract. He's made a living off these big 1-year, $30+ million contracts, the 5th of his career.

The series opened with recently acquired Tylor Megill (1-0, 1.69 ERA, 1.13 WHIP) facing Bobby Stiles (1-0, 2.57 ERA, 0.57 WHIP). Tied at three in the 9th, Xavier Carter hit a two run homer off Riley Ferrell, and the Phillies won the opener 5-3.

Megill allowed 7 hits and 3 runs in 5.1 innings with 5 walks and 2 strikeouts. Ferell allowed 2 runs and 3 hits with 2 walks in 1+ innings. Why did they trot him out for the 9th...

Thomas Dillard was 2-for-3 with a double, run scored, RBI, and he was hit by a pitch. Daylen Lile was 2-for-5 with a run scored. Jarred Kelenic was 1-for-4 with a sac-fly and run scored. Chris Reed was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.

April 17th, 2027: I claimed another former Marlin, Luis Ardon, off waivers. I DFA'd Gunnar Hoglund and optioned Jared Taylor to AAA. Ardon will replace Megill in the 5 spot. This is the 2nd time I claimed Ardon off waivers after trading him.

The middle game saw Jake Florence (1-1, 2.57 ERA, 1.00 WHIP) take on Jim Gilbert (1-1, 3.21 ERA, 0.93 WHIP) as we looked to even up the series. Runs were extremely common, and the game finished 9 innings tied at 9 runs a piece. In the 10th, former Philly Isaac Nunez hit a walk off single off Blake Treinen, who spent last year in my minor league system.

Florence went 5 innings with 8 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Danny Niewald blew the save the first tiem, 0.2 innings with 3 hits, 3 runs, and 2 strikeouts. Igancio Hinojos blew the save a 2n time, 0.1 innings with 2 hits, 2 runs, and a strikeout. Before him, Ernesto Estrella allowed a hit, that later scored when Hinojos was pitching, to the only batter he faced. Alpha Quivers struck out the side in the 9th. Riley Ferrell got the win, an inning with a hit.

Nunez was only 1-for-6 with the big walk off. Deshawn Hardamon was 3-for-4 with 4 runs, a walk, a double, and an RBI. Daylen Lile came off the bench, a perfect 3-for-3 with 2 runs, an RBI, and a triple. Jarred Kelenic was 2-for-5 with 2 runs, 2 RBI's, a double, homer, and steal. Jhon Solarte was 2-for-3 with a run scored, RBI, and steal. Tyrese Ephron was 1-for-2 with a run scored, 2 RBI's, a walk, and a steal. Mac Horvath was 1-for-4 with an RBI, walk, and triple.

Rangers 2B Tank Espalin was 5-for-6 in a 10-7 win over the Mariners.

April 18th, 2027: We looked to finish the series with a win, as Steve Paustian (0-1, 11.00 ERA, 2.22 WHIP) needed to have a good start against former Marlin 1st Rounder Josh Weske (2-0, 2.45 ERA, 0.64 WHIP). It was another extra inning affair, but they edged us 5-4 in 11 innings. None other then Tyler Callihan hit an RBI single off Marc Bjork.

Paustian went 5 innings with 4 hits, 4 runs, 3 walks, and 3 strikeotus. Before Bjork, 6 relievers tossed single innings with a hit, walk, and 6 strikeouts. Bjork allowed a run off 3 hits with a strikeout.

Tyrese Ephron was 2-for-3 with a solo homer. Jarred Kelenic was 1-for-3 with 2 walks, a run scored, and steal. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-5 with a triple and RBI. Mac Horvath was 1-for-5 with a run scored, RBI, and triple.

Orioles LF Josh Shuler hit three hoemrs in an 8-2 win over the Yankees.

We finish the homestand as the Nationals come to town for three. We'll see Kyle Molnar (1-1, 3.48 ERA), Tyler Dyson (1-0, 0.96 ERA), and Gage Hinsz (0-1, 14.73 ERA).

Before I finish this post, I got curious about some Marlins career records that my players have recorded. Thomas Dillard is ranked 7th in OBP with Seth Beer right behind him. Beer is 5th in slugging, with Dillard behind him. Guess who ranks 6th and 7th in OPS? Why of course Dillard and Beer. In terms of oWAR, Dillard ranks 4th. Lewis Brinson ranks 8th in games played for htiters and at bats. Beer ranks 10th in runs. Brinson ranks 9th in total bases and 5th in triples. Seth Beer ranks 5th in homers. Brinson is 9th in RBI's and 8th in steals. Cole Brannen ranks 7th in steals. Beer is 6th in walks.

Moving on to pitching (not counting Monty), Walker Buehler is 2nd in ERA and 7th in wins. Yasukazu Shiotani is the All-Time leader for saves with 136. Jorge Moya is 7th, Brad Brach 9th, and Alpha Quivers 10th. Buehler is 4th in pWAR. Shiotani is 3rd in games pitched, Drew Steckenrider 6th, and Kyle Barraclough 10th. Buehler is 5th in starts and 10th in innings pitched. A.J. Puckett is 3rd in BB/9 and Buehler 4th. He's also 3rd in strikeouts and 1st in K/9. Jake Florence ranks 7th. Buehler is 2nd in K/BB and Puckett 6th. Puck is also 5th in WHIP. Buehler is 4th in rWAR.
