May 3rd-May 9th

May 3rd, 2027: Ben Davis was named American Confrence Player of the Week, hitting .600 with 3 homers and 10 RBI's. He's the reigning Batter of the Month.

Despite being half a game out of first, we shot up to 1st in the Power Rankings. At 18-7, only the 19-7 Phillies have a better record, as we've both won 6 in a row.

The Mets came to town, and the reltaively regular ace-off between Jake Florence (2-1, 2.97 ERA, 1.09 WHIP) and Noah Syndergaard (3-2, 2.97 ERA, 1.02 WHIP) took place. Thor got the better of us in his first start this year, and no one in the lineup has hit over .250 against him. Not even like a 1-for-3 or 2-for-7... Our streak wouldn't reach 7, and they beat us 4-2 to kick off the series.

Florence allowed 3 runs in 6.2 innings off 8 hits with a walk and 6 strikeouts. Alpha Quivers allowed a run off a hit with a strikeout in the 9th.

Jake Taylor was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored. Juan Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a double. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-3 with a run scored and double. Chris Reid was 1-for-3 with a walk.

May 4th, 2027: We looked to even the series back up with Steve Paustian (1-2, 6.75 ERA, 1.34 WHIP) taking on Tyler Mahle (2-2, 10.67 ERA, 2.37 WHIP) who we absolutely demolished earlier in the year. We held off on the demolishing, and they beat us 5-3. If the stupid Mets sweep us...

Paustian allowed 2 unearned runs in 6.1 innings with 5 hits, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Yes, the game should still be oging on... Danny Niewald allowed a hit that later scored to the only batter he faced, and was charged with the loss. Ignacio Hinojos allowed a run in 0.2 innings with a hit and 2 strike outs. Tylor Megill allowed a solo homer with a strikeout in the 9th.

Isaac Nunez was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-3 with a double, 2 runs, and 2 walks.

Angels RF Pete Crow-Armstrong was 5-for-5 in a 4-1 win over the A's.

May 5th, 2027: Arizona will be without LHP Mike Hines for the year with a torn labrum. He was 0-3 with a 8.53 ERA in his first year with the Diamondbacks.

We desperatley needed to avoid the sweep with Devon Peterson (3-0, 4.71 ERA, 1.43 WHIP) taking on Brady Singer (1-2, 4.21 ERA, 1.36 WHIP). Thankfully, we played well, and took the finale 8-2 as the Mets had to keep the brooms stowed.

Thomas Dillard left with an injury after being hit by a pitch...

Peterson went 6 innings with 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Marc Bjork tossed 2 innings with 3 hits and 3 strikeouts.

Jhon Solarte was 3-for-4 with 2 runs, a steal, and RBI. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4 with 2 runs, 2 RBI's, a homer, and a steal. Mac Horvath was 2-for-3 with a run scored, RBI, walk, and steal. Daylen Lile was 2-for-5 with a two run homer. Juan Ramirez was 1for-5 with a run scored, 2 RBI's, and a double.

We're off to Phialdelpha to face the Phillies, who we are now tied with for first place. We'll see Francisco Morales (1-0, 5.23 ERA), Jim Gilbert (2-2, 4.30 ERA), Josh Weske (3-1, 6.10 ERA), and Steve Fettig (3-1, 5.67 ERA) in a early battle for the East.

The Amateur Draft pool is also published tomorrow!

May 6th, 2027: The 2027 Draft Pool was released, and here's who OSA ranks the top 10 in terms of my scout and theirs:

1. RHP Mike Goodwin (2.5/5)
2. RHP Joel Murphy (0.5/4)
3. RHP Mike Humby (1.5/4.5): Selected by the Cubs in the 3rd Round in 2024
4. RHP Nate Moss (3/5): Selected 4th Overall by the Red Sox last year
5. RHP Goichi Ortega (2.5/4)
6. RHP Leith Kearley (3/4.5): Selected by the Indians in the 5th Round in 2024.
7. RHP J.D. Harcourt (2/4.5)
8. RHP Chris Porter (2.5/5): Selected by the Mets in the 3rd Round in 2024
9. RHP Mike Norman (1.5/5)
10. RHP Ron Leyba (3.5/5)

Are there only rigthy pitchers in the pool? The answer? Kind of, and this pool looks pretty bad. The only 4+ guys according to my scout are relievers. SP Dave Culpepper (3.5) might be the only player I'd want to draft. Although SP Marlon Fregia (3.5) and C Juan Castaneda (3.5) aren't bad either. Ignored CF Tim Dunbar (3.5) signing bonus demands, and he'd be a target as well.

Here's where by unsigned class of 2024 is now:

2nd Round: SP Mike Bookert (0.5/0.5)
6th Round: CF Omari Golatt (2/2.5)
9th Round: 2B Andy Gibson (2/2)
12th Round: SS Rodolfo Silva (0.5/0.5)
13th Round: CF Steve Senior (1.5/1.5): Selected by the Brewers in the 8th Round in 2025
18th Round: CF Jeff McMaster (0.5/0.5)
19th Round: CF Ben Robinson (1.5/1.5)
24th Round: SP Luis Alderte (Can't find him, must have made a typo)
28th Round: 2B Amari Grevious (0.5/0.5)
29th Round: SP Joe Zumwalt (0.5/0.5)
30th Round: CF Danny Treen (1/0.5)
34th Round: SP Luis Barecneas (Can't find him either...)
35th Round: CF Alfredo Garza (0.5/0.5)
38th Round: SP Sincere Sturrup (0.5/0.5)
39th Round: SP Teagan Squarebriggs (0.5/0.5): Selected by Cleveland in the 13th Round in 2025, released in 2027 then signed with Tampa.

Back to baseball, Jordan Montgomery (2-2, 2.45 ERA, 0.94 WHIP) took on Farncisco Morales (1-0, 5.23 ERA, 1.45 WHIP) as we started the series at Citizens Bank Park. This was a must win, so being down 3-2 in the 9th wasn't a good start. Enter Mac Horvath, who cleared the bases against former Marlin farm hand Sergio Monreal, and we won the opener 5-3.

Jordan Montgomery, however, left with injury after 2.1 innings with a hit, walk, and strikeout. He was also 1-for-1 with a double and run scored.

Marc Bjork tossed 2.1 innings with 2 hits and 2 strikeouts. Ernesto Estrella got a hold, 1.1 innings with 2 hits, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Igancio Hinojos blew the save, 2 runs in 0.1 innings with 2 hits. Luis Alcantra then got the win, 1.2 innings with a hit, run, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Alpha Quivers earned save #7, a walk and 2 strikeouts in the 9th.

Mac Horvath was 2-for-5 with a double and 3 RBI's. Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-5 with a double. Tyrese Ephron was 1-for-4 with a double and run scored. Daylen Lile was 1-for-3 with a steal, run scored, RBI, and 2 walks.

Braves starter Ty Madden tossed a 2-hitter and struck out 9 in a 4-0 win over the Nationals.

May 7th, 2027: Dillard was diagnosed with an elbow contusion, and will be day-to-day for about 4 days. I think I'll play him today then bench him for three.

We looked to take the second of four with Luis Ardon (3-0, 1.01 ERA, 0.94 WHIP) taking on Jim Gilbert (2-2, 4.30 ERA, 1.14 WHIP). Can you find a better #5 in the league? Too bad we couldn't score, and the Phillies evened the series with a 2-0 shutout.

Ardon tossed 6 innings with 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Luis Alcantra tossed 1.1 innings with 2 hits, a walk, and 3 strikeouts.

Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-5 with a double. Juan Ramirez and Isaac Nunez were both 1-for-3 with walks.

Rays two-way player Brendan McKay was 5-for-5 in a 10-8 win over the Rockies.

May 8th, 2027: Jordan Montgomery was diagnosed with a torn labrum, and his headed to the DL for 5 months. Yay... I putchased the contract of Matt Hogan, optioned Spencer Jones, and recalled Cho-yeong Hyoun.

We looked to retake the division lead with Jake Florence (2-2, 3.16 ERA, 1.14 WHIP) taking on Josh Weske (3-1, 6.10 ERA, 1.42 WHIP). After Jon Reid pinch hit and tripled and scored in the 9th, the Phillies walked off with former Marlin Ernesto Arambula hitting a walk off RBI single off Alpha Quivers and the Phils won 5-4 to retake the division lead.

Florence went 6 innings with 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Matt Hogan actually came out of the pen, an inning with a hit, run, and 2 strikeouts as well as a hold. Riley Ferrell blew the save, allowing a solo homer to the only hitter he faced. Quivres was charged with 3 hits and a run in 0.2 innings.

Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-4 with 2 doubles, a run scored, a sac-fly, and 2 RBI's. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4 with a sac-fly. Chris Reid was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Fllorence was 1-for-2 with a sac bunt and run scored.

May 9th, 2027: We looked to walk away with a Steve battle: Paustian (1-2, 5.50 ERA, 1.46 WHIP) versus Fettig (3-1, 5.67 ERA, 1.63 WHIP). We tried to lose really hard, allowing a three run homer to Mason Winn in the 9th, but we escaped with a 5-3 win.

Paustian had an interesting outing, 5.1 innings with 4 hits, 6 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Tylor Megill got a hold, 1.2 innings with a strikeout. Marc Bjrok tossed 1+ innings with a hit, run, walk, and 2 strikeouts. Ernesto Estrella allowed the homer, with 2 runs (1 earned) and a stirkeout. Quivers got the save, getting a strike out and fly out to end the game.

Jhon Solarte was 2-for-3 with a solo homer. Tyrese Ephron replaced him and went 1-for-2 with a solo homer. Juan Ramirez was 1-for-4 with a walk, 2 runs, a triple, and a steal. Daylen Lile and Chris Reid were both 2-for-5 with an RBI. Jake Taylor was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Mac Horvath was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Our road trip continues with three in San Diego before an off day. We'll see Charles King (1-4, 6.10 ERA), Chris Rodriguez (3-1, 3.72 ERA), and Dallas Woolfolk (1-3, 3.89 ERA).
