May 10th-May 16th
May 10th, 2027: Down in AAA, RF Palban Gamboa was named Player of the Week. He hit .400 with 6 homers and 13 RBI's.
At 21-11, we're still tied in first, but dropped to second in the Power Rankings.
We opened the series at Petco Park with Devon Peterson (4-0, 4.41 ERA, 1.41 WHIP) taking on Charles King (1-4, 6.10 ERA, 1.77 WHIP). We didn't score until the 9th, and lost the opener 3-1. To be fair, most of the lineup was non-starters.
Peterson allowed a run in 5 innings with 3 hits, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Riley Ferrell got just 1 out, and allowed a walk and two run homer.
Eric Kisela was 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk. Tyrese Ephron was 1-for-3 with a double, RBI, and walk. Jon Reid hit a pinch-hit double in the 9th and scored our only run. Peterson the pitcher was 1-for-1.
May 11th, 2027: We looked to even the series back up with Igancio Hinojos (1-0, 4.40 ERA, 1.40 WHIP) returning to the rotation against Chris Rodriguez (3-1, 3.72 ERA, 1.13 WHIP). We scored, but didn't do any pitching, and were edhed 7-6 and we're now a game away from getting swept.
Hinojos pitched fine, 6 innings with 6 hits, 3 runs, and 10 strikeouts. Marc Bjork got the loss, a run and strikeout. Danny Niewald walked the only batter he faced, who later scored. Cho-yeong Hyoun allowed a hit and run in 0.2 innings. Riley Ferrell allowed a hit and run in the 8th.
Mac Horvath was a perfect 3-for-3 with 2 runs, 2 RBI's, a homer, and a walk. Chris Reid was 1-for-3 with a solo homer, 2 runs, and 2 walks. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with a walk, double, and RBI. Daylen Lile was 1-for-4 with a walk, run scored, and steal. Deshawn Hardamon came off the bench and was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Indians 1B Anthony Rizzo collected his 2,000th career hit. The Veteran lefty is a career .255/.360/.473 hitter with 395 homers and 1,216 RBI's in 2,233 career games, mostly with the Cubs.
May 12th, 2027: I DFA'd LF Tyrese Ephron and activated RF Jarred Kelenic from the DL.
We looked to avoid the sweep with Luis Ardon (3-1, 1.38 ERA, 0.95 WHIP) facing Dalls Woolfolk (1-3, 3.89 ERA, 1.38 WHIP) as our tired team plays out last game before a much needed off day. Tied at five in the 9th, Rule-5 Pick Eric Kisela (I feel like I'm a legend at Rule-5 picks) hit a pinch-hit, go-ahead solo homer off Fitz Stadler as we salvaged the finale 6-5.
Ardon tossed 6 innings with 11 hits, 5 runs, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Ernesto Estrella got the win, 1.1 innings with 2 strikeouts. Alpha Quivers notched the save, striking out one in a perfect 9th.
Juan Ramirez was 2-for-5 with a run scored and RBI. Daylen Lile was 1-for-4 with a two run homer, a walk, 2 runs, and a steal. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-4 with a walk and two run homer. Ardon the pitcher was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Phillies SP Jim Gilbet tossed a 5-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts in a 4-0 win over the Giants.
Thankfully, tomorrow is an off day!
May 13th, 2027: Former Marlin Josh Watson is out for the year with a torn flexor tendon. He's closing for the Cubs, and has a 2.77 ERA with 7 saves in 14 relief appearences.
We're off to LA, where we'll face the Dodgers for three. The projected starters are Nate Ransom (4-0, 4.42 ERA), Robinson Ortiz (2-2, 6.16 ERA), and Lusi Severino (1-4, 7.46 ERA) before another day off.
May 14th, 2027: We open the series against the Dodgers with Jake Florence (2-2, 3.14 ERA, 1.16 WHIP) taking on Nate Ransom (4-0, 4.42 ERA, 1.28 WHIP). The pitching was beautiful, and we shut them out 2-0 to start the series strong.
Florence went 5 innings with 5 hits, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Tylor Megill, Danny Niewald, and Riley Ferrell got holds while Alpha Quivers got the save. He struck out the side and walked 1 hitter in the 9th.
Juan Ramirez was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Mac Horvath and Thomas Dillard were both 1-for-4. Florence was 1-for-1 with a sac-bunt.
May 15th, 2027: I outrighted LF Tyrese Ephron to AAA.
We looked to win the series a day early before Steve Paustian (2-2, 4.76 ERA, 1.51 WHIP) taking on Robinson Ortiz (2-2, 6.16 ERA, 1.40 WHIP). Down 6-5, Matt Hogan hit a pinch-hit solo homer in the 9th to tie it and force extras. In the 11th, Johanser Pontier hit a walk-off single off Marc Bjork, and the Dodgers evened the series with a 7-6 win.
Paustian piched 7 innings, allowing 7 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks, and he struck out 7. Danny Niewald allowed a hit and run in 0.2 innings. Riley Ferrell allowed a hit and run in 0.1 innings. Bjork got the loss, 2 walks, a hit, and run in 0.2 innings.
Jarred Kelenic was 2-for-4 with a steal and an RBI sac-fly. Chris Reid was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Jhon Solarte was 1-for-4 with a walk, hit by pitch, triple, and 3 runs scored. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-5 with an RBI double.
May 16th, 2027: We looked to win the rubber match with Devon Peterson (4-1, 4.08 ERA, 1.36 WHIP) taking on Kevin Jalbert (3-2, 1.90 ERA, 0.87 WHIP). We eneded the series strong with a 9-4 victory.
Peterson went 6.1 innings with 5 hits, 4 runs, 3 walks, and 7 strikeouts. Luis Alcantra got a hold, and Marc Bjork a 2 inning save. Bjork struck out 3 and allowed 2 hits.
Thomas Dillard had a monster game, 4-for-4 with 2 homers, 5 RBI's, and a walk. Jarred Kelenic was 1-for-2 with 3 runs, 3 walks, a triple, and a steal. Mac Horvath was 2-for-3 with a run scored, walk, sac-fly, and 2 RBI's. Juan Ramirez was 2-for-4 with 3 runs, a walk, and a steal. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
