July 6th-July 11th
July 6th, 2027: The Braves acquired RF Erick McKeon and RHP Joe Burch from the White Sox for RF Josh Crusan. I like this deal for both teams, although when McKeon was young, I really wanted him. That's a dude who stole 60+ bases in his first four years.
We were supposed to play a game in Atlanta, but it got postponed, and we'll have a double header tomorrow.
Cardinals CF Rodolfo Medrano was 5-for-5 in a 6-3 win over the Angels.
The unsigned draftees announced where they'd go, and I made my edits to the draft class. Here's where my guys are heading:
1st Round: 3B Geoff Jalpa (Texas 2030)
8th Round: 3B Zach Koford (Covenant 2028)
11th Round: CF Joe Housand (Mississippi State 2030)
15th Round: 3B Jamari Maith (Cal-State Stanislaus 2030)
19th Round: C Jeff Kisling (Cal-State Fullerton 2030)
23rd Round: SP A.J. Dailey (Seton Hall 2028)
24th Round: SS Juan Tapanes (Michigan 2030)
26th Round: 3B Lupe Morales (Florida 2030)
28th Round: CF Josh Fonseca (Curry 2028)
34th Round: SP Jorge de los Santos (Principia 2028)
This has to be my smallest unsigned class.
July 7th, 2027: The Rangers acquired 1B Bert Robertson and CF Rob Davis from the Cubs for RHP Ryan Dease and 1B Jorge Abreu. It's a good swap for both teams.
Game 1 of 2 took place between us and the Braves as Devon Peterson (8-4, 5.09 ERA, 1.51 WHIP) faced Ty Madden (7-5, 2.77 ERA, 1.13 WHIP). Mac Horvath is an impressive 8-for-11 against Madden, and he did his part in the 5-3 openeing victory.
Peterson went 6, alloiwng 8 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and he struck out 3. Luis Alcantra threw 1 pitch, and allowed a solo homer. Ernesto Estrella, Jake Taylor, and Riley Ferrell got holds while Alpha Quivers got the save.
Juan Ramirez was 3-for-5 with a two run homer, a double, a steal, and two runs scored. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-3 with 2 walks. Horvath was 2-for-4 with a walk and 2 runs scored. Thomas Dillard was 2-for-4 with a homer, walk, and 3 RBI's.
Game two took place between Jake Florence (7-5, 3.45 ERA, 1.25 WHIP) and Ian Bedell (6-5, 4.70 ERA, 1.51 WHIP). We swept the double header with a 6-1 victory and we'd go for the sweep tomorrow.
Isaac Nunez was hit by a pitch and bruised his wrist, and will be day-to-day for about 5 days.
Florence went 6 innings with 5 hits, a walk, and 4 strikeouts. Marc Bjork allowed a hit and run in the 9th while also getting a strikeout.
Juan Ramirez was 2-for-5 with a double and run scored. Jake Taylor was 1-for-4 with a base clearing double. Jarred Kelenic was 1-for-4 with a run scored and RBI. Nunez was 1-for-3 with a run scored and the hit by pitch. Palban Gamboa hit a pinch hit homer in the 9th, the first homer of his young career.
July 8th, 2027: The Red Sox acquired C Jkae Herbert and LF Derek Heinmiller from the Dodgers for 1B Joe Naranjo.
We looked to sweep the second place Braves at home, but we had to get rid of the superstar we traded them, Ken Harty (10-1, 2.05 ERA, 0.89 WHIP). Steve Paustian (7-5, 3.06 ERA, 1.21 WHIP) looked to continue his hot stretch for us, although he was hit really hard in his first start against the Braves. It took 11 innings, but we were able to edge them 3-2 to finish the sweep and extend our lead in the division.
Jarred Kelenic left with an injury...
Paustian went 5 innings with 3 hits, 2 runs (1 earned...), 4 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Jarred Taylor tossed 2.1 innings with a hit and 2 strikeouts. Alpha Quivers got the win, striking out 2 in the 10th. Riley Ferrell got the save, striking out 1 in the 9th.
Kelenic was a monster before getting hurt, 3-for-5 with a solo homer and a steal. Juan Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a walk, 2 runs, a steal, and a solo homer. Jon Reid was 1-for-4 with a double.
We're off to St. Louis for three, and we'll scheduled to face Eric Webster (3-4, 3.95 ERA), Luis Manzano (5-6, 4.72 ERA), and Logan Gilbert (6-5, 3.72 ERA).
July 9th, 2027: The Astros sent LF Kyle Tucker to the Indians for RHP Mike Shawaryn. It's an even deal, although when considering salary, I like this for the Astros.
We opened the series in St. Louis with Ignacio Hinojos (4-2, 3.39 ERA, 1.24 WHIP) taking on Eric Webster (3-4, 3.95 ERA, 1.45 WHIP). The pitching wasn't there, and we were topped 7-2, as the Cardinals moved to .500.
Hinojos allowed 6 in 4.1 innings off 8 hits with 5 strikeouts. Cho-yeong Hyoun allowed a run and 3 hits in 2.2 innings with 2 strikeouts.
Daylen Lile was 3-for-4 with a run scored, double, and his 27th steal. Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-4 with a homer and 2 RBI's. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-3 with a walk.
Arizona 1B Iestyn Spreckley launched 3 homers in a 8-7 win over the Rockies.
It wasn't the biggest homer news of the day, as Nomar Mazara hit his 300th homer in a Giants 11-3 win over the rival Dodgers. He's a career .292/.370/.506 hitter with 1,018 RBI's in 1,782 games between Texas and San Francisco.
But, it gets bigger! 37-year-old LF Giancarlo Stanton hit his 700th career homer in a 5-2 Yankees win over Baltimore. Stanton ranks 4th All-Time and 62 behind Barry Bonds record of 762. Realistically, with 3.5 seasons that will account for his year 40 season, he needs just 16 in the full seasons and 9 to finish the year. He does have 20 on the season, and is on pace for 37.
Jul 10th, 2027: I optioned Marc Bjork to AAA to recall today's starter, Tylor Megill (1-2, 3.98 ERA, 1.45 WHIP) from his rehab assignment. He'd face Colombian Rookie Luis Manzano (5-6, 4.72 ERA, 1.33 WHIP). We couldn't even the series, and they topped us 5-1...
Megill went 5.2 innings with 7 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Luis Alcantra went 0.2 innings with 2 hits, 2 runs, and 2 walks.
Juan Ramirez was 2-for-4. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Palban Gamboa was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Daylen Lile was 1-for-3 with a walk.
July 11th, 2027: Dillard remains 1st, Quivers 2nd, and the injured Kelenic drops to 3rd.
We needed to salvage the finale with the red hot Luis Ardon (7-4, 2.72 ERA, 1.21 WHIP) taking on Logan Gilbert (6-5, 3.72 ERA, 1.23 WHIP). Somehow, we could handle the Braves and not the Cardinals, and they swept us with a 7-3 win. Honestly, I can't remember the last time we got swept, but it was probably against Arizona...
Ardon went 6.1 innings with 7 hits, 5 runs (3 earned), and 4 strikeouts. Jarred Taylor allowed 3 hits and 2 runs with 2 walks in an inning.
Palban Gamboa was 1-for-4 with a two run homer. Juan Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Daylen Lile was 2-for-3 with a sac-fly.
Well, that sucked...
It's back home for three with the Braves before a day off. Now 2.5 ahead of the Phillies and 5 over Atlanta, we'll face Michael Doolin (1-0, 3.43 ERA), Ken Harty (10-1, 2.08 ERA), and Lucas Sims (6-6, 5.92 ERA).
