- TARPONS SWAMP CARR FOR KANESHIRO
- The Florida Tarpons and Buffalo Nickels have agreed on a trade the will send 28-year-old RP Jim Carr and the games hottest OF prospect Chris Linn to Buffalo while the Nickels will send 23 year RP Shinji Kaneshiro and switch-hitting 3B prospect 21-year-old Luis Figueroa as well as slugging 1B prospect 20-year-old Luis Cardenas.
- GM'S OFFICE
- Carr was unhappy not being the closer AND was not pitching well at all. His 5 blown saves and 5.87 ERA as well as his 2m per year deal with 3 years left made moving him painless especially given we got a reliever with 3 years of club control and 5 years younger in Kaneshiro. The kid can pitch and he's not done getting better. He'll head to the ABA roster and take a spot in the middle of the pen. Chris Linn will win the AAA MVP going away. He's on pace to hit 50 and drive in close to 140 and there's no reason to think he won't end up a star. He also likely will still be a huge issue off the field. With Hayashi having a great season (.283/.361/.505 20 HR 70 RBI) and entering his prime (27) as well as being in year one of the 5 year deal signed last winter Linn was moveable. I hate trading young high ceiling talent and even more so when they're on the cusp of being big league players but this had to happen.
- Both position players we received are young and extremely talented prospects. Figueroa was signed as an 18 year old Int' free agent back in 2008. He's done nothing but hit, he's already an above average defender and he is a legitimate switch hitter. No real power but he projects as a .400 OBP bat with elite speed and 50+ SB ability. He's was hitting well in AA for them but we'll send him to Farmington just to let him get his feet wet over here.
- Cardenas is a legitimate 45+ HR power bat. Right-handed and a very good 1B already, his power potential is off the charts. He was signed out of the Dominican as a 16-year-old and came into the season ranked #92 on the ABA prospect list. He'll play 1st at Rio Rancho for the rest of this year.
- 7/28: Florida 12 Milwaukee 8
