July 12th-July 18th
Sidenote: 10,000 views! That's awesome to see! I hope everyone who's been following closely, just checking in occasionally, or have happened to stumbled upon this thread have enjoyed reading this as much as I've enjoyed writing it! And here's to the next 10,000!
July 12th, 2027: Jarred Kelenic will head to the DL for about 5-6 weeks with a strained abdominal muscle. I called up LF Matt Hogan from AAA.
Angels lefty Kris Bubic is out for the year with a torn ulnar collateral ligament. He tossed just 1 big league inning after finishing a rehab assignment from a torn elbow ligamnet last year.
We dropped a spot to third in the Power Rankings. We're 55-33 and have a nice 2.5 game lead.
We hosted the Braves with Jake Florence (8-5, 3.26 ERA, 1.24 WHIP) taking on Michael Doolin (1-0, 3.43 ERA, 0.76 WHIP). The Braves are scary, with their two, three, four all 4.5 or better The play wasn't good, and we lost the opener 9-2.
Florence went 3 innings with 5 hits, 6 runs (5 earned), 6 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Cho-yeong Hyoun went 2 innings with a hit, 3 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Danny Niewald allowed a hit and run in 1.1 innings with 2 strikeouts. Alpha Quivers allowed 2 runs and 3 hits with a strikeout in the 9th.
Chris Reid was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI's and a walk. Juan Ramirez and Mac Horvath were both 1-for-3 with a walk and run scored.
July 13th, 2027: We looked to even the series with Devon Peterson (9-4, 4.96 ERA, 1.52 WHIP) taking on Ken Harty (10-1, 2.08 ERA, 0.88 WHIP), who I wish I held onto in the Mike Soroka deal... I wish I traded Ken Adeniran instead... Tied at three in the 9th, Chris Reid hit a walk-off double off Drew Smith, and we walked off 4-3 winners.
Peterson went 6 innings with 6 hits, 3 runs, and 9 strikoeuts. The pen tossed 3 innings with a hit and a strikeout.
Thomas Dillard was 2-for-4 with a double, run scored, RBI, and walk. Matt Hogan was 1-for-3 with a run scored and walk. Reid was 1-for-4 with a walk and the game winning double. Eric Kisela got a pinch hit, two run double in the 8th. Peterson was 1-for-2 with a double.
July 14th, 2027: Former Marlin and current Angel LHP Garrett McDaniels is out for the year with a torn rotator cuff. He tossed just 3.2 big league innings in 2 starts, with a 12.27 ERA and 3.27 WHIP. Yikes.
St. Louis sent 1B Triston Casas to the Nationals for RHP Logan Gilbert. It's a good deal for both teams.
We looked to win the finale with Steve Paustian (7-5, 3.01 ERA, 1.21 WHIP) taking on Lucas Sims (6-6, 5.92 ERA, 1.48 WHIP) before an off day. It was a tight one, but we edged them 3-2 to battle back in the finale after they got 2 in the first.
Paustian went 6.1 innings with 8 hits, 2 runs, a walk, and 7 strikeouts. Riley Ferrell got the win and Alpha Quivers struck out 2 in the 9th for the save.
Daylen Lile was 2-for-4 with a run scored, RBI, and steal. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-2 with a run scored, 2 walks, and a steal. Juan Ramriez was 1-for-3 with a double and hit by pitch. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-2 with 2 RBI's, a walk, double, and sac-fly.
July 15th, 2027: The Giants acquired 3B R.J. Teijeiro from the Phillies for LHP Steve Purpura and RHP Dave Jackson. I love this deal for the Phillies.
We got to stay home before the Nats came to town for the final series before the All-Star Break. We'll see Kyle Molnar (7-8, 4.03 ERA), Cole Ragans (3-10, 4.53 ERA), and Sonny Warner (4-1, 3.00 ERA).
July 16th, 2027: More trades, as the Pirates set RHP Nick Storz to the Athletics for CF Luis Guerrero. I like this deal for the Pirates.
With the Nats in town, Ignacio Hinojos (4-3, 3.95 ERA, 1.27 WHIP) took on Kyle Molnar (7-8, 4.03 ERA, 1.35 WHIP) in the opener. Down 4-0, we got 4 in the 7th to tie up the game and eventually force extras. In the 14th, Victor Robles hit a solo homer off Hyoun, and the Nats evened their record at 47-47.
Riley Ferrell left with a mild abdominal strain, but with the Break coming up, it's not worth DL'ing him.
Hinojos went 5 innnings with 3 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Jarred Taylor allowed 3 hits and 2 runs with a walk and strikeout in 0.2 innings. Cho-yeong Hyoun went 2 innings with a hit, run, and 5 strikeouts.
Chris Reid was 2-for-4 with a solo homer and 2 walks. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-6 with a double and run scored. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-6 with a two run homer. Daylen Lile was 2-for-6. Eric Kisela came off the bench and went 1-for-2 with a walk and RBI.
July 18th, 2027: We looked to even the series back up with Luis Ardon (7-5, 2.82 ERA, 1.20 WHIP) taking on Cole Ragans (3-10, 4.53 ERA, 1.37 WHIP). They got 5 in the 2nd, and took this one 6-4 as we had to avoid the sweep tomorrow.
Ardon went 4.1 innings with 6 hits, 5 runs, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Tylor Megill tossed 1.2 innings with 2 hits, a run, and a walk. Ferrell didn't let the injury bug him, 1.1 innings with 3 strikeouts, although he did walk 2.
Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Chris Reid was 1-for-4 with a two run homer. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Mac Horvath was 1-for-3 with a walk and double. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-4 with a double.
July 18th, 2027: The All-Stars were announced today! Representing your Marlins, will be SP Steve Paustian, CL Alpha Quivers, and C Thomas Dillard (starting). It's the first for Paustian, second for Quivers, and 4th for Dillard.
Now tied with Philly for first, we looked to avoid the sweep with Jake Florence (8-6, 3.58 ERA, 1.30 WHIP) taking on Sonny Warner (4-1, 3.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP). It was dissapointing, and we lost 3-1 to get swept at home by a mediocre team...
Great way to enter the break...
Even better, Daylen Lile left with an oblique strain and will miss 4 weeks. Yay...
Florence went 5 with 4 hits, 3 runs (2 eraned), 3 walks, and 8 strikeouts. The pen tossed 4 innings with a walk and 6 strikeouts. Jarred Taylor tossed 1.2 of them with 3 strikeouts.
Isaac Nunez had a solo homer. Jake Taylor was 1-for-3. That's all the offense...
The Phillies lost too, so we'll head into the All-Star break 57-37 and tied for first place.
