July 26th-August 1st

July 26th, 2027: Toronto will be without SP MacKenzie Gore for the season with a damaged elbow ligament. He'll likely miss most of next year as well, and struggled in his first season with the Blue Jays. He went 8-7 with a 5.56 ERA and struck out 121 in 115 innings.

We moved up to 3rd in the Power Rankings, but are now a game out of first.

Three trades were made today, with CF Enrique Bradfield foinf grom Arizona to San Diego and RHP Jeff Slezak going the other way. It's a fair trade.

The White Sox acquired RHP Keiron Emberey from the Diamondbacks from RHP's Chris Komar and Mike Steele. I like this deal for Arizona.

The Cubs acquired RHP Pedro Araujo and LF Branden Cook from the Pirates for RHP Rogelio Rosales. This is a pure salary dump.

We opeend the long series in Coors field with Steve Paustian (7-5, 3.00 ERA, 1.23 WHIP) taking on Eric Warren (3-5, 5.92 ERA, 1.33 WHIP). Tied at five after nine, we had to take it to extras. In the 10th, Thomas Dillard hit a two run homer off Sam Howard, and we took the opener 7-5.

Paustian went 5.2 innings with 5 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), and 5 strikeouts. Matt Hogan got a hold, 2 runs in 0.1 innings with 4 htis. Chad Scholes got the win, an inning with a strikeout. Jarred Taylor got the save, striking out 2 in the 10th.

Dillard was 2-for-3 with the two run homer and two hit by pitches as well as a stolen base. Palban Gamboa was 2-for-5 with 2 runs, a triple, 3 RBI's, and a homer. Juan Ramirez was 1-for-4 with a run scored and RBI. Mac Horvath was 1-for-5 with a double and run scored. Jake Taylor had a pinch hit double in the 10th, and scored the go-ahead run.

July 27th, 2027: The Nationals will be without recently acquired Logan Gilbert for the rest of the year with a torn flexor tendon. Likely to miss most of next year as well, he made just 2 starts and tossed 4.2 innings with the Nationals.

We looked to hit the red hot A.J. Puk (7-4, 3.74 ERA, 1.19 WHIP) who would do battle with Luis Ardon (7-6, 3.15 ERA, 1.23 WHIP). Puk stayed hot, and they evened the series with a 3-2 win.

Ardon went 5 innings with 7 hits, 3 runs, 5 walks, and 2 strikeouts. The pen tossed 3 innings with 3 hits and 3 strikeouts.

Jhon Solarte was 2-for-2 with a double and a walk. Jake Taylor was 1-for-4 with a double and RBI. Matt Hogan was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Mac Horvath was 2-for-5.

July 28th, 2027: I desiganted Tylor Megill for assignment, and activated Riley Ferrell from the DL.

We looked to jump back in front with Jake Florence (9-7, 3.45 ERA, 1.26 WHIP) taking on Forrest Whitley (5-5, 3.41 ERA, 1.32 WHIP). We couldn't limit the offense, and they owned us 9-3.

Florence tossed 5 innigns with 8 hits, 4 runs, 4 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Matt Hogan, who is now no logner a two-way player, allowed 4 runs in 2 innings with a walk and 2 strikeouts.

Juan Ramirez was 3-for-4 with a double, steal, and walk. Mac Horvath was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Chris Reid was 1-for-3 with a walk and two run homer. Jhon Solarte was 1-for-3 with a walk and run scored. Florence was 1-for-1 with a sac-bunt.

July 29th, 2027: In an effort to boost the pen some more, I acquired former Marlin Victor Arano from the Brewers for RP Ernesto Estrella and 2B Nate Bell.

Arano, 32, will take over the 8th inning job. Rated a 4.5*, the impending free agent has a 2.84 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 19 saves and 52 strikeouts.

The Nationals acquired 2B Willi Castro and RF Luis De Valle from the Rays for RHP Kyle Molnar. It's a fair trade.

We looked to finish the series with a split, as Devon Peterson (10-4, 4.64 ERA, 1.43 WHIP) got Jeison Coira (10-5, 4.22 ERA, 1.22 WHIP). It took 13 innings, but Cornelius Randolph hit a walk off single off Jarred Taylor and the Rox won 2-1.

Peterson tossed 5.1 shutout innings with 4 hits, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Alpha Quivers blew the save, 2 hits and a run with a walk and strikeout in an inning of work. Taylor got the loss, 2 walks, a run, and a hit in 0.2 innings.

Jhon Solarte was 2-for-3. Palban Gamboa was 2-for-6 with a solo homer. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-5 with a double and hit by pitch. Juan Ramirez was 3-for-5 with a walk. Mac Horvath was 1-for-4 with 2 walks.

We're headed home for three with the Pirates, as the deadline approaches. We'll see Ken Haugen (5-6, 3.68 ERA), Mike West (6-6, 4.86 ERA), and Caleb Barnsley (0-0, 4.50 ERA).

July 30th, 2027: The Astros acquired RF Jeff Aimone from the Angels for RHP D.J. Myers and RHP Danny Lain. It's a good deal for the Astros.

Chris Reid has food poisioning, and will miss 3 days.

I tired really hard to find a trade I liked, but I couldn't find anything. More will be done tomorrow...

We opened the series hosting the Pirates with Ignacio Hinojos (4-4, 4.25 ERA, 1.31 WHIP) looking to turn things around against Ken Haugen (5-6, 3.68 ERA, 1.19 WHIP). We couldn't win the opener against the awful Pirates, as Chad Scholes allowed 3 unearned runs in the 9th. Yay...

And to make things better, Thomas Dillard left with an injury...

Hinojos had a weird stat line, 8 walks and 7 strikeouts in 4.1 innings with 2 hits and 2 runs. Scoles allowed just 2 hits and the 3 unearned runs...

Cole Brannen launched a pinch hit two run homer in the 8th that tied up the game at two. Juan Ramirez was 1-for-4 with a steal. Dillard was 1-for-3 with the hit by pitch that knocked him out of the game.

Green's hit streak is up to 25 games!

Mariners SP Dave Capetillo tossed a 3-hit shut out in a 7-0 win over the Twins. He struck out 9 and walked just 1.

July 31st, 2027: Happy deadline day! Two big injuries before the trade news. RHP Brad Roney of the Mariners will miss the remainder of the year with radial nerve compression. Giants RHP Stiward Aquino has a bone spur in his elbow that will cost him the rest of the season.

The Pirates sent RHP Steve Martin and 3B Dan Owen to the Cubs for 1B Kevin Martin. It's a good deal for the Pirates.

The Jays acquired RHP Alex Cunningham from the Indians for SS Zack Prajzner and 1B Juan Herrera. I like this deal for the Indians.

The Orioles aquired SS Isaac Rodriguez and 1B Manuele Vivarini from the Reds for LHP Cullen Dana. I like this deal for the Reds, but it's a fair one.

My turn...

And I couldn't find anything...

We looked to even the series with Steve Paustian (7-5, 3.01 ERA, 1.21 WHIP) taking on Mike West (6-6, 4.86 ERA, 1.44 WHIP). I think we suck, and we lost 6-1. At home. To the now 43-60 Pirates...

Paustian allowed 5 runs in 6 innings wtih 6 hits, 3 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Jarred Taylor allowed a run in 0.1 innings with 2 hits and a strikeout.

Eric Kisela was 2-for-4. Mac Horvath was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jake Taylor was 1-for-3 with a run scored and a double. Juan Ramirez was 1-for-3 with a steal and walk.

Don't panic...

August 1st, 2027: Thomas Dillard fractured his finger, and will head to the DL for 4-5 weeks. That means catcher of the future Jackson Miller will be recalled to make his big league debut. I also optioned Taylor to AAA and added Megill back to the active roster.

Washington will have a bigger loss, losing star 3B Tanner Kohlhepp for the year with a ruptured medial collaeral ligament. The 28-year-old was hitting .293 with 25 homers and 59 RBI's.

We looked to avoid the pitiful sweep with Luis Ardon (7-7, 3.26 ERA, 1.29 WHIP) taking on Caleb Barnsley (0-0, 4.50 ERA, 0.83 WHIP) who is making just the 2nd start of his career. Jackson Miller will hit fifth and catch in his MLB debut. He's probably the 4th best hitter in the lineup... Luckily, we salvaged the finale with a 5-2 win.

Ardon went just 4 innings with 4 hits, a run, 2 walks, and 7 strikeouts. Not sure why he was pulled with just 80 pictches... Cho-yeong Hyoun got the win, 2 innings with 2 hits, a run, walk, and strikeout. Alpha Quivers and Victor Arano earned holds. Not sure where Scholes was for the save, but no one got a save.

Jhon Solarte was 2-for-4 with a double, run scored, and 2 RBI's. Miller was 1-for-3 with a walk and run scored in his debut. Eric Kisela was 1-for-3 with a double, walk, and run scored. Palban Gamboa was 1-for-3 with a two run, two out double, and a walk. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with an RBI double.

Tim Green's hit streak was ended at 26.

Hopefully August will be better then the pitiful 10-15 July, as we welcome the last place and 53-51 Mets for four. We'd see Brady Singer (7-8, 3.70 ERA), Noah Syndergaard (6-3, 2.48 ERA), Livio Montella (4-9, 4.72 ERA), and Mashiaro Tanaka (7-7, 4.07 ERA).
