August 2nd-August 8th
August 2nd, 2027: Greensboro RF Alfredo Gamez won South Atlantic Player of the Week. He hit .522 with 2 homers and 7 RBI's.
We dropped to 5th in the Power Rankings. At 61-43, we are 4.5 games out of first. Yay...
We opened the series against the Mets with Jake Florence (9-8, 3.67 ERA, 1.30 WHIP) taking on Brady Singer (7-8, 3.70 ERA, 1.17 WHIP) as we looked to make up ground in the division race. I don't think any team had a bat today, and we won a pitiiful 1-0 game.
Florence was great, 6 innings with 3 hits, 2 walks, and 6 stirkouets. Alpha Quivers and Riley Ferrell got holds and Chad Scholes got the save. After two singles, Scholes ended up striking out the side for the first of likley many Marlins saves.
Juan Ramirez was 2-for-4. Jhon Solarte was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-2 with a walk and steal. Jackson Miller was 1-for-3 with the only run scored.
August 3rd, 2027: Game two of four saw Devon Peterson (10-4, 4.42 ERA, 1.42 WHIP) who has pitched well of late, take on Noah Syndergaard (6-3, 2.48 ERA, 0.97 WHIP). More good pitching for the staff, and we won 4-1.
Peterson tossed a gem, 7.1 innings with 3 hits, a run, a walk, and 7 strikeouts. Scholes got another save, an inning with a hit and strikeout.
Palban Gamboa was 1-for-3 with a walk and three run homer. Mac Horvath was 2-for-3 with 2 runs, a walk, and double. Chris Reid was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI. Jon Reid was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
August 4th, 2027: San Diego will be without SS Michael Perez for the year with a torn ACL. He's not a big part of the team, hitting just .188 this year.
We look to keep rolling with Ignacio Hinojos (4-4, 4.25 ERA, 1.37 WHIP) taking on Livio Montella (4-9, 4.72 ERA, 1.38 WHIP). With a lineup full of backups, just Horvath, Reid, and Hardamon from the Opening Day lineup, we toppled the Mets 7-2.
Hiojos went 5.2 innings with 5 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and 11 strikeouts. Danny Niewald and Victor Arano both got holds. Arano struck out 3 in 1.2 innings with a hit.
Jhon Solarte went 3-for-4 with a double, 2 runs, and 3 RBI's. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-4 with a two run double. Cole Brannen was 1-for-3 with a run scored, double, and sac-fly. Jon Reid was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Chris Reid was 1-for-2 with a walk and run scored.
August 4th, 2027: The recently promoted Pirates righty Greg Sankoh will be out for the year with a torn UCL. His first 2 innings have been rough, allowing 5 htis, 4 runs, and a walk with 2 strikeouts.
We looked to finish the sweep (still 4 out since the Phillies don't lose...) with the red hot Steve Paustian (7-6, 3.21 ERA, 1.22 WHIP) taking on Mashiaro Tanaka (7-7, 4.07 ERA, 1.28 WHIP). We got four in the first and finished a nice home sweep with an 8-2 win.
Paustian allowed an unearned run and 5 hits in 6 innings with a walk and 8 strikeouts. Cho-yeong Hyoun went 2 innings with 2 hits, a run, 2 walks, and a strikeout.
Chris Reid was 2-for-4 with 2 runs, 3 RBI's, and a homer. Jackson Miller was 2-for-4 with 2 runs and a double. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4 with a run scored, a double, and 3 RBI's. Mac Horvath was 2-for-3 with a run scored, walk, sac-bunt, and RBI. Matt Hogan was 1-for-3 with a hit by pitch, steal, walk, run scored, and RBI. Palban Gamboa was 1-for-3 with a run scored and 2 walks.
The Indians will come to town for three before we have a day off. We'll see Josh Luzius (2-2, 3.41 ERA), Caden Monke (0-2, 6.48 ERA), and Daniel Norris (2-8, 7.58 ERA).
Before I continue, check out how good the Phillies are: At 69-39, they have won 6 in a row and 9 of the last 10. They have the best record in the league, and one of the best offenses in the recent past, leading the NL in everything except ectra base hits, homers, and steals (which is the only category we lead).
August 6th, 2027: We opened the Indians series with Luis Ardon (7-7, 3.22 ERA, 1.29 WHIP) taking on Josh Luzius (2-2, 3.41 ERA, 1.29 WHIP). Another great pitching outing, and we topped Cleveland 3-1. I think our rotation is planning on caring us to another ring...
Ardon tossed 6.1 innings with 2 hits, a run, 2 walks, and 8 strikeouts. Luis Alcantra and Alpha Quivers got holds before Chad Scholes picked up the save.
Deshawn Hardamon went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored. Jhon Solarte was 2-for-3 with a run scored and 2 RBI's. Jackson Miller was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Mac Horvath was 1-for-3 with a walk and RBI. Palban Gamboa was 1-for-3 with a walk.
August 7th, 2027: We looked to keep winning with Jake Florence (10-8, 3.50 ERA, 1.28 WHIP) taking on Caden Monke (0-2, 6.48 ERA, 1.68 WHIP). Our perfect August ended with a 7-2 loss.
Florence went 5 innings with 6 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Riley Ferrell allowed 2 runs and 2 hits with a strikeout. Danny Niewald went 1.1 innings with a hit, run, and walk.
Jon Reid was 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and a run scored. Jhon Solarte was 1-for-4 with a solo shot. Cole Brannen was 2-for-4.
August 8th, 2027: We looked to take the finale with Devon Peterson (11-4, 4.23 ERA, 1.37 WHIP) taking on Daniel Norris (2-8, 7.58 ERA, 1.80 WHIP). Up 2-1 in the 9th, Chad Scholes allowed a two run homer to Nolan Jones, who hit a solo shot in the 7th, and we lost 3-2. Nice...
Worst thing is, I've been complaining about a 66-45 team like they are 45-66...
Peterson went 7 innings with 2 hits, a run, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Luis Alcantra and Victor Arano got holds in the 8th, with Alcantra striking out both hitters he face. Scles allowed 2 hits and 2 runs with a walk and 2 strikeouts.
Isaac Nunez was 2-for-3 with a walk, double, and RBI. Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-4 with 2 doubles, a run scored, and RBI. Juan Ramirez and Cole Brannen were both 1-for-4.
Baltimore's Luke Leto launched three homers in a 7-3 win against the Mariners.
Jumbo Shrimp 2B Antoni Flores hit for the cycle in a 12-3 win over the Jackson Generals. I acquired him in the offseason, but he was eventually a 40-man casualty.
We get tomorrow off before heading to Pittsburgh!
