September 20th-September 26th

It's a late one tonight, but I had a very long car ride (where I got a lot of writing in):

September 20th, 2027: We remained 3rd in the Power Rankings. The Phillies are 2nd, and we'd look to jump them with this series.

The Orioles clinched the East. At 97-52, they have a 14.5 game lead over the Blue Jays. The Angels have been eliminated. At 67-82, they are 14 games behind the A's.

Jared Taylor (2-1, 3.95 ERA, 1.28 WHIP) got a spot start, his first of the season, against Jim Gilbert (10-5, 3.56 ERA, 1.08 WHIP). It took 15 innings before Thomas Dillard hit a solo homer to take a 5-4 lead that we'd keep.

Joseph Jarneski left with a sore elbow, and he'll miss 2 weeks.

Taylor went 5 innings with 6 hits, 3 runs, a walk, and 2 strikeouts. Riley Ferrell allowed 2 hits and a run in an inning. Tylor Megill got the win, 3 innings with 2 hits and as trikeout. Chad Scoles tossed 2 innings with 3 strikeouts.

Deshawn Hardamon was 3-for-5 with a double, 2 runs, and a solo homer. Thomas Dillard was 2-for-5 with a walk and solo homer. Juan Ramirez came off the bench, 1-for-3 with an RBI double. Mac Horvath was 1-for-5 with a run scored and 2 walks.

Angels RF Sergio Alayaa was 5-for-6 in a 15-6 win over the Athletics. His teammamte Nick Senzel was 5-for-5.

September 21st, 2027: The Brewers will be without SP Shane Baz for the year with shoulder inflammation. He was 7-7 with a 4.18 ERA in 19 starts.

We clinched a playoff spot. At 92-58, we have a 9 game lead over the Nationals. The Padres weren't so lucky, and they were eliminated. At 68-81, they are 13 games out of first.

We looked to take the second game with Jake Florence (14-10, 3.41 ERA, 1.24 WHIP) taking on Dursun Erbakan (8-4, 3.12 ERA, 1.13 WHIP). It was another long one, and tied at 5 after 9, we scored 2 in the 14th. Enter Ignacio Ramos, who hit a walk-off grand slam off Megill.

Florence tossed 5 innings with 8 hits, 3 runs, a walk, and 4 strikeouts. Alpha Quivers allowed a run off 3 hits in 0.2 innings with a strikeout. Joe Kramer alloewd a hit and run with 2 strikeouts. Megill allowed 2 htis, 2 walks, and 4 runs with 2 strikeouts in 1.1 innings.

Juan Ramirez was 3-for-5 with 2 runs, an RBI, double, 2 walks, and 2 steals. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with a grand slam of his own. Chris Reid was 1-for-5 with 2 runs, 2 walks, and a steal. Devonte Brown was 1-for-3 with a steal.

September 22nd, 2027: The White Sox will be out of the playoffs. At 72-80, they are 12 games behind the Twins. The Yankess will also not participate in the postseaosn. At 71-80, they are 27.5 games out of first.

I trasnfered Jimmy Chapman to the 60-Day DL and purchased the contract of Sam Minniefield. Minniefield, a former 3rd rounder of mine, is currently ranked a 2.5/3.5 at 24 years of age.

Here's what I wrote about him:

3rd Round, 101st Overall: RP Sam Minniefield (2.5): Yes, it's that bad that I have to grab another college reliever early in the draft. Minniefield can eat a lot of innings in the pen, and can touch 100 with his plus-plus fastball. He's got a plus splitter as well, but needs to work on it's movement.

He still has both plus pitches, and his movement has moved up to 55, which is decent enough. He's also increased in potential, and was decent for a 3rd round pick.

We looked to finish the finale with Ignacio Hinojos (9-6, 3.42 ERA, 1.25 WHIP) taking on former Marlin Josh Weske (11-11, 5.25 ERA, 1.47 WHIP). They got four in the 5th, and took the finale and series 5-2.

Hinojos went 5 innings with 6 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Minniefield made his MLB debut, 1.1 innings with 3 hits, a run, a walk, and a strikeout.

Devonte Brown was 2-for-3 with a steal and solo homer. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Spencer Jones was 1-for-3 with a double and walk.

Astros RF Mookie Betts hit his 2,000th career hit. THe 34-year-old has a career .285/.349/.468 stat line with 234 homers and 994 RBI's.

We're off to Washington for four with the Nationals. We'll see Sonny Warner (9-2, 2.22 ERA), Tyler Dyson (8-3, 2.31 ERA), Mike Abrams (8-6, 3.64 ERA), and Cole Ragans (6-14, 4.53 ERA).

September 23rd, 2027: Thomas Dillard wants an extension, but I don't have the money to extend him.

The Indians fired Manager Norm Charlton. The former reliever had a great 2022, going 99-63, but has not had a winning season since. He was 59-93 this year and 446-516 in his 6 year career.

We opened the four game set with Cho-yeong Hyoun (2-2, 2.87 ERA, 1.02 WHIP) making his first start of the year against Sonny Warner (9-2, 2.22 ERA, 1.01 WHIP). We scored a single run in the 6th through 9th to tie the game at 5. They were able to walk it off, however, and they won the opener 6-5.

Hyoun went 5.2 innings with 7 hits, 4 runs, 4 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Roberto Pena went 1.2 innings with a hit, run ,3 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Chad Scoles got the loss, a hit and run in 0.1 innings.

Mac Horvath was 2-for-4 with a double, walk, 2 runs, and a solo homer. Deshawn Hardamon was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Daylen Lile was 1-for-4 with a steal and RBI. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-3 with a solo homer. Jhon Solarte was 1-for-2 with a solo homer.

September 24th, 2027: Brewers SP Alfredo Rivera tore his flexor tendon, and will miss the beginning of next year. He was 11-9 with a 4.65 ERA this year.

The two time defending champion Tampa Bay Rays have been eliminated from the playoffs. At 73-79, they are 27 games out of first.

The Colorado Rockies clinched the NL West. At 84-70 they have an 11 game lead over the Diamondbacks. At 92-61, I'm 5.5 games out of first and have to play a stupid 1 game playoff...

We looked to turn things aroung with Steve Paustian (12-8, 3.11 ERA, 1.21 WHIP) taking on the hot Tyler Dyson (8-3, 2.31 ERA, 0.96 WHIP).We looked awful, and lost 7-2...

Paustian went 6 innings with 5 hits, 6 runs (5 earned), 5 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Luis Alcantra walked a hitter who later scored, and got one out. Roberto Pena tossed 1.2 innings with 4 strikeouts.

Jon Reid was 2-for-3 with a walk, double, and solo homer. Mac Horvath was 2-for-5 with a run scored. Palban Gamboa was 1-for-3 with a double and walk. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-2 with a double, hit by pitch, and sac-fly.

Padres starter Dallas Woolfolk tossed a 1-hit shutout in a 3-0 win over the Dodgers.

September 25th, 2027: Toronto starter Nick Sprengel tore his flexor tendon, and will likely miss all of 2028. He was 2-3 in 6 starts with a 3.58 ERA and 1.34 WHIP.

We desperatley needed a win as the red-hot Luis Ardon (13-8, 2.93 ERA, 1.22 WHIP) looked to stay hot against Mike Abrams (8-6, 3.64 ERA, 1.04 WHIP). We preferred to lose 3-2 instead...

Ardon tossed 6 innings with 4 htis, 3 runs, 4 walks, nad 3 strikeouts. Alpha Quivers struck out 2 in the 7th and Victor Arano struck out 1 and allowed a hit in the 8th.

Roberto Pena was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI's. Thomas Dillard was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Eric Kisela had a pinch hit double in the 8th.

September 26th, 2027: Jordan Mongtomery was activated from the DL, and Nesty Cirese was transferred to the 60. Monty will head back to the rotation.

We looked to avoid the embarassing 4-game sweep wtih Jake Florence (14-10, 3.46 ERA, 1.25 WHIP) looking to stay hot against Cole Ragans (6-14, 4.53 ERA, 1.40 WHIP). Florence has dominated the Nationals, 2-1 with a 0.93 ERA. We scored 5 in the 7th and 8th to crush Washington 11-1 and leave the capital with a little dignity.

Florence wasn't perfect, but tossed 7 innings with 7 htis, a run, 3 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Jarred Taylor finished the game, 2 innings with a hit, walk, and 2 strikeouts.

Isaac Nunez was 3-for-5 with 2 runs, 3 RBI's, a double, homer, and 2 steals. Jackson Miller was 3-for-4 with a run scored. Matt Hogan was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Spencher Jones hit a pinch hit grand slam in the 7th. Jon Reid hit a pinch hit two run single and later scored in the 8th. Mac Horvath was 2-for-5 with a run scored. Deshawn Hardamon was 1-for-3.

We're headed back home for a three game series with the first place Phillies. We'll see Durusn Erbakan (8-4, 3.42 ERA), Josh Weske (12-11, 5.13 ERA), and Chad Afghani (2-1, 2.49 ERA). I'm pretty sure they clinched the division, and they have a 7.5 game lead over us.

Oh well, when we won the Series we were the Wild Card.
