Free Agency Pt. 1

November 27th, 2027: It sounds crazy, but I actually have a bit more then $7 million to spend on Free Agents; a lot better then having to cut $20 million or move...

The top 10 in no perticular order are:

RHP Mitchell White
RHP Brady Singer
1B Kris Bryant
LF Kyle Tucker
C Thomas Dillard (tears)
LHP Jose Quintana
RHP Victor Arano
2B Bo Bichette
LHP/1B Brendan McKay
RHP Edwin Diaz

One trade to start Free Agency: The Braves sent 1B Danny Contreras and cash to the Pirates for C Will Banfield and RHP Dan Farrell. It's an even deal, with a slight edge to the Pirates.

It's really a weak free agent class...

Here's my plan:
1. Acquire a SP
2. Upgrade 2B
3. Add to the pen (always)

November 28th, 2027: Here's my Hall of Fame ballot:

2B Robinson Cano
SP Zack Greinkie
SP Felix Hernandez
LF Matt Holliday
RF Nick Markakis
C Russell Martin
C Joe Mauer
C Yadier Molina
C Buster Posey
CL Francisco Rodriguez

Cano, Hernandez, Holliday, Markakis, Mauer, Molina, Posey, and K-Rod all have shots. Cano, Greinkie, and Mauer seem like locks, all getting over 60% last season.

Trade action: The Rangers acquired RHP Mike West from the Pirates for RHP Sergio Andrade. It's a decent deal for both teams, but I like the Pirates side.

November 29th, 2027: I claimed former Marlin Ernesto Estrella off waivers. I traded him midseason to the Brewers in the Arano deal.

November 30th, 2027: Pair of deals were made, with the trade happy Pirates sending RHP Deavan Watts and RHP Nate Dick to the Royals for C Mike Price. It's a salary dump that the Royals really capitalize on, with Price being the worst player.

The Cardinals sent 1B Mike Barrett to Toronto for 3B Mike Tobler. It's an even deal.

December 3rd, 2027: The Rays sent LF Colt Barker to the Pirates for RHP Bobby Nicholson. I like this deal for Tampa. Pittsburgh is really making moves, as GM David Quinowski has really been shuffling the roster.

I purchased the contract of pitchers Alfredo Herrera and Zaire Moneyham to fill my 40.

December 6th, 2027: I made a deal with the Nationals, acquiring 2B Noah Smith for SP Logan Shore, LF Dong-hak Noh, 3B Dansby Swanson, and SP Jake Parker. It's not the biggest haul to give up, a former 4th rounder in Parker and 3 minor league free agents, although Shore and Swanson are both 2.5*.

Smith, the former 9th Overall Pick, is a 25-year-old rated a 3.5/4. He's an elite defender with elite speed, plus contact, plus eye, and he doesn't strike out too much. In three full big league seasons, he's hit .264/.328/.365 with 23 homers, 173 RBI's, and 68 steals. I'd have to make room for him later.

December 7th, 2027: I DFA'd Mike Cowell to make room for Smith.

December 8th, 2027: C Thomas Dillard signed really early, and will continue his career with the Cardinals. Generally considered the best catcher in the game, he signed for 4-years, $132,000,000. The 30-year-old is a career .256/.364/.493 hitter with 141 homers and 428 RBI's.

December 10th, 2027: I outrighted Cowell to AAA.

December 14th, 2027: The Winter Meetings start today! Lot's of signing happened as well!

Toronto signed P/1B Brendan McKay to a 5-year, $168,500,000 contract, with the final year a player option. As a pitcher, he's 87-55 with a 3.43 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 1,123 strikeouts in 1,255.1 innings. As a hitter, he's a career .275/.337/.472 with 86 homers and 311 RBI's.

They also inked 38-year-old vet Jose Quintana to a 3-year, $19.2 million per year deal, with the third year a 25 game started vesting option. "Q" has a career 166-129 record with a 3.46 ERA and 1.20 WHIP with 2,471 strikeouts in 2,785.2 innings.

The Cubs Signed LF Kyle Tucker to a 4-year, $19.8 million per year, with the fourth year a player option. He's a career .297/.357/.539 hitter with 291 homers and 889 RBI's.

We got some trade action, with the Cubs acquiring former Marlin Jorge Moya and RHP Jim Lately from the Yankees for 2B Jared Poland. It's a steal for the Cubs.

The Rangers sent SS Nander De Sedas to the Red Sox for RHP Dinelson Lamet and RHP Randy Profitt. I like this deal for the Rangers, although De Sedas is a stud.

December 15th, 2027: More moves, starting with the Astros signing RHP Nick Burdi to a 3-year, $34.7 million contract with the third year a 40 games finished vesting option. The 34-year-old has tossed 647 innings with 778 strikeouts, a 3.53 ERA, and 1.25 WHIP.

They also added a new catcher, Noah Naylor, to a 7-year, $14.4 million per year deal. The former Royal is a career .243/.307/.414 hitter with 102 homers, 372 RBI's, and 85 steals with a cannon behind the plate.

The Rays signed RHP Craig Kimbrel to a 1-year, $4,840,000 contract. With 552 career saves, a 2.40 ERA, a.d 1.00 WHIP, Kimbrel showed no signs of slowing down with the Angels last year, 33 saves, a 1.76 ERA, and 0.78 WHIP.

The Reds got RHP Dallas Woolfolk from the Padres for RHP's Arturo Magana and Brad Montgomery, as well as LHP Jonathan Hager. It's a good haul for Woolfolk.

The Cardinals got C Kurtis Byrne from the Mariners for RHP Jorge Reyna. I like this deal for both sides.

Lastly, the Twins got RF Sergio Ayala from the Angels for LHP Liam Norris. I like this deal for both teams.

December 16th, 2027: I signed veteran C and team leader Grant Koch to a 1-year, $1,610,000 deal. The 30-year-old is a career .218/.306/.377 hitter, but he's signed for his leadership and he should be able to mentor Jackson Miller well.

I moved 2B Devonte Brown to the Rays for CF Omari Tetteh to make room for Koch.

Tetteh, who just turned 24, is a former 1st Round Pick with a ton of speed who will be a plus defender in center. He's got excellent gap to gap power, plus contact, and decent home run pop.

December 17th, 2027: The Meetings ended with a pair of trades.

First, the Nats got C Daulton Varsho from the Diamondbacks for LF Ezequiel Pagan and LHP Tim Downs. I like this deal for the D'Backs.

The Cubs sent LHP Graeme Stinson to the Padres for 3B Jordan Groshans. It's an even deal.

I finished the meetings by sending 3B Ben Davis to the Twins for SP Jared Jackson.

Jackson, 24, was selected by the Twins 26th Overall in 2025. He's rated a 3.5* potential with a plus fastball, plus-plus slider, and elite change up. He tosses 92-94 with the fastball, keeps the ball on the ground, and will get you deep into the game. His control is just average, but he should develop into a great #2 or #3.

December 20th, 2027: The Indians signed 2B Bo Bichette to a 6-year, $139.6 million contract. A long time Blue Jay, he hit .271/.342/.485 with 192 homers, 558 RBI's, and 170 steals.

December 24th, 2027: The Rays signed former Ray Brent Honeywell to a 1-year, $10.3 million contract. After spending 2019-2024 pitching for the Rays, he left to Milwaukee for three years before returning. He's tossed 932.1 innings with 933 strikeouts, a 3.25 ERA, and 1.07 WHIP. He won Cy Young in 2021, where he lead the league with 20 wins, a 1.91 ERA, and 0.91 WHIP.

The Rule 5-Draft is also today! There was no one worth taking, but I didn't lose anyone either.

December 28th, 2027: Lot's of signings today, but I'll start with the small one. I signed RHP Blayne Enlow to a 1-year, $1.9 million contract that is a lot like the Dinelson Lamet signing way back when. Enlow is also a borderline starter, rated a 2.5/3 with an elite curve, plus-plus fastball, and developing change. He's got plus control as well, and can toss a lot of innings. He's also a team leader.

The Indians signed Isaac Paredes to a 3-year, $24.9 million contract. The 28-year-old is a career .277/.339/.441 hitter with 87 homers and 403 RBI's as a Tiger and Royal.

The Nationals signed my former reliever Victor Arano to a 3-year, $17.8 million per year deal. He was unhittable for me after the deadline, a 0.42 ERA and 0.65 WHIP with 30 strikeouts in 21.2 innings. He has 105 career saves, and will likely serve as the closer.

The Nats also signed his ex-teammate, Alpha Quivers, to a 3-year, $20 million per year deal. Quivers has a career 3.67 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and he struck out 672 hitters in just 490 innings. He also has 84 saves and can be another late inning option.

December 29th, 2027: The Mariners signed LF Mickey Moniak to a 5-year, $61,400,000 contract. The former #1 Overall pick has a career .275/.357/.405 line with 56 homers and 273 RBI's, as well as 165 steals.

December 30th, 2027: The Reds replace Mickey Moniak with LF Ramon Flores. They signed him to a 3-year, $13.3 million per year contract. He really broke out with Arizona after bouncing a round a bit, and has a career .256/.373/.474 line with 268 homers and 803 RBI's. He's also walked more times (907) then he's struck out (839) in 4,928 at bats.

December 31st, 2027: I DFA'd Jimmy Chapman to make room for Blayne Enlow.

We'll pick this back up next year!
