April 2nd-April 9th
April 2nd, 2028: Happy Opening Day! While we don't play today, the regular season officially starts and baseball is back!
We are predicted to finish 100-62 for the best record in the NL, followed by the Nationals (87-75), Braves (86-76), Phillies (82-80), and Mets (74-88). The Brewers (82-80) and Padres (81-81) are the other projected leaders, but no teams in either division is projected under 77 wins. Luckily, expansion will come at the end of the season to hopefully get rid of all the mediocrity. I have a few top players: Jarred Kelenic (.348/.438/.552, 25 HR, 91 RBI'S, 22 sb) Juan Ramirez (.333/.415/.588, 31 HR, 130 RBI, 22 SB), Devon Peterson (14-7, 3.59 ERA, 173 K) and Steve Paustian (14-10, 3.80 ERA, 171 K).
The top 100 prospects were published, with RHP Rob Stratton of the Tigers ranked #1. He's a former 7th Round Pick from 2024 who's rated a 4.5* potential from my scout. My system ranks 5th. Rogelio Maldonado (3rd), Eric Richer (30th), and Sergio Serrano (79th) rank in the top 100. Omari Tetteh (147th) is my only opther top 200 guys. I am shocked Juan Maya is my 8th prospect and not top 100.
We start the season hosting the Braves for three. We'll face reigning Cy Young winner Ken Harty, Ty Madden, and Jonathan Groff. I think Harty will always haunt me as the "one who got away" even with a little drop in his ratings.
April 3rd, 2028: Game 1 of 162 takes place in beautiful Marlins park that is a near capacity 39,631 fans will witness. Devon Peterson will take on Ken Harty. The lineup is as follows: CF Lile, RF Kelenic, LF Ramirez, 3B Reid, 1B Horvath, SS Nunez, 2B Smith, C Koch, P Peterson. We actually got 6 off Harty, and won the opener 7-2.
Peterson tossed 5.2 innings with 5 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Riley Ferrell earned a hold, 1.1 innings with a strikeout. Blayne Enlow made his Marlins debut, 2 innings with 2 hits and a strikeout.
Chris Reid started his 2028 off right, 2-for-3 with a three run homer, a two run homer, and a walk. Mac Horvath was 2-for-4 with a steal and run scored. Daylen Lile was 2-for-5 with a steal and run scored. Jarred Kelenic was 2-for-5. Juan Ramirez was 1-for-4 with 2 runs and a walk. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-3 with a walk and steal. Noah Smith was 1-for-4 with an RBI in his Marlins debut.
April 4th, 2028: Game two saw Steve Paustian face Ty Madden. Paustian almost went the distance, and we shut the Braves out 6-0.
Paustian tossed 8.1 innings with 3 hits and 9 strikeouts. Luis Ardon got the last two outs.
Dewitt MacGregor was 2-for-4 with a solo homer, walk, and three run homer. Jarred Kelenic was 1-for-4 with a solo shot. Juan Ramirez was 1-for-3 with a run scored and hit by pitch. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-2 with 2 walks and a run scored. Noah Smith was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Daylen Lile was 1-for-3 with a walk.
Brewers 1B Drew Mendoza hit for the cycle in a 10-5 win over the Rockies.
April 5th, 2028: The Tigers signed CL Jairo Labourt to a 1-year, $4.8 million contract. Origionally acquired by the Tigers in the David Price deal with the Blue Jays, he played in 6 games for them in 2017. Then he made a cameo with us in 2021 before spending 2022 to 2027 with the Reds.
We looked to finish the opening sweep with Jake Florence taking on Michael Doolin. It was a close one, but a five run 6th helped us finish the sweep with a 8-6 win.
Trevor Gott (back tightness) and Riley Ferrell (mild abdominal strain) will both be day-to-day for about 5 days.
Florence went 5 innings with 9 hits, 4 runs (3 earned) 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. Danny Niewald got the win, an inning with 2 walks and a strikeout. Ignacio Hinojos allowed a hit and walk, but struck out the side in the 7th to get a hold. Gott and Ferrell both got holds in the 8th. Chad Scoles hit the first batter he faced in 2028, and then gave up a two run homer in the 9th without getting an out. Enlow ended up striking out the side and got the save.
Chris Reid was 1-for-2 with a solo shot and 2 walks. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-3 with a double, run scored, RBI, and walk. Matt Hogan hit a pinch hit solo homer in the 8th. Jarred Kelenic was 1-for-5 with a double and run scored. Noah Smith was 1-for-4 with 2 runs scored. Grant Koch was 1-for-3 with a walk and RBI.
White Sox SS Carlos Correa hit his 2,000th career hit. He has a career .300/.371/.517 hitter with 341 homers and 1,173 RBI's.
We get the day off tomorrow before our Florida rivals Tampa come to town for three.
April 6th, 2028: I optioned MacGregor to AAA and activated Jackson Miller from the Disabled List.
The Rockies signed RHP Dovydas Neverauskas to a 1-year, $3,760,000 contract.
With the Rays, we'll see Brent Honeywell, Jarod Bayless, and Jacob Faria (0-0, 6.75 ERA).
April 7th, 2028: Jordan Montgomery took on Brent Honeywell as we started the series with the Rays. Miller was in the lineup and will hit 6th. Tied at four in the 9th, Juan Ramirez drew a bases loaded walk and we continued our perfect start to the season.
Montgomery tossed 6 innings with 6 hits, 3 runs, and 3 strikeouts. Niewald allowed a run and 2 hits with a strikeout in the 7th. Scoles got the win, a strikeout in a perfect 9th.
Daylen Lile was 2-for-5 with a three run homer. Miller didn't look rusty, 2-for-4 with a double and steal. Jarred Kelenic was 1-for-4 with a double and walk. Chris Reid was 1-for-3 with 2 walks. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with a run scored.
April 8th, 2028: We looked to keep rolling with Devon Peterson (1-0, 1.59 ERA, 1.24 WHIP) taking on Jarod Bayless. We have the position advantage at every spot, and absoultely demolished the Rays 15-1.
Peterson tossed 7.1 innings with 7 hits, a run, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Blayne Enlow tossed 1.2 innings with 3 strikeouts.
Jarred Kelenic was 4-for-5 with 3 runs and a walk. Juan Ramirez was 3-for-5 with a double, hit by pitch, and 3 runs scored. Mac Horvath was 1-for-1 with 3 runs, 3 RBI's, 3 walks, a double, sac-fly, and 2 steals. Chris Reid was 2-for-3 with 3 runs, 2 RBI's, 2 walks, and his 4th homer of the year. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4 with a walk, double, and 3 RBI's.
Blue Jays teammates CF Ron Burk and 2B Mike Barrett recorded 5 hits in a 10-9 win over the Orioles. Burk was 5-for-6 and Barrett was 5-for-5.
April 9th, 2028: Recent signing Mitchell Whtie tore his ulnar collateral ligament, and it was so severe, that he was forced to retire. The Cubs stupidly released him, and now they are out of $150 million. He tossed just 0.2 innings with them, allowing 2 runs and 3 hits with a strikeout.
We looked to finish the sweep and a perfect homestand with Steve Paustian (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 0.36 WHIP) taking on Jacob Faria (0-0, 6.75 ERA, 2.00 WHIP). Paustian was great again, and we topped them 7-1 to finish a 6-0 homestand.
Two problems: Daylen Lile left with an injury and the diagnosis is pending. Juan Ramirez left as well, but it's just a sore back he can play through.
Paustian tossed 6.2 innings with 2 hits, a run, 4 walks, and 7 strikeouts. Trevor Gott got the hold, 1.1 innings with a hit and strikeout.
Chris Reid was 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and a steal. Mac Horvath was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Nesty Cirese came off the bench for Lile, going 1-for-3 with 2 runs, a RBI, and steal. Ramirez was 1-for-3 with an RBI double before leaving with injury. Noah Smith was 1-for-3 with a steal and 2 runs scored. Jackson Miller was 1-for-4 with a double.
AAA RF Joe Weigand was 5-for-5 in a 4-3 loss to the Memphis Redbirds.
Can't really start much better then we did, and we're off to Atlanta for three with the Braves. We'll see Ty Madden (0-1, 6.75 ERA), Jim Tate (0-0, 6.00 ERA), and Jonathan Groff (0-0, 3.38 ERA). Can we make it 9-0? Let's focus on seven first...
