A Cardinals error gave the Cubs a run in the bottom of thefirst as a bad throw by Grady as Sheckard was trying to steal third made it 1-0 Chicago.
Wicker was perfect through three.

Shannon singled with one out in the top of the fourth to give the Cardinals their first base runner of the game.

In the bottom of the seventh, Schulte scored on a fielder's choice as McBride left the game with an injury and was replaced by Ed Holly.
The Cardinals put runners at the corners in the top of the ninth but Beckley flew out to center to end the game.
