08/06/1972 - Astros Lose, 7-3, at Candlestick Park; Bonds and Kingman Star
The San Francisco Giants racked up a win at Candlestick Park, bumping off the Houston Astros, 7-3. Jim Barr, who started for San Francisco, pitched effectively for his team. The 5th-place Giants are now 48-65, the Astros 60-52.
Bobby Bonds hit a 2-run triple off Ken Forsch in the bottom of the third, which put the Giants in front, 2-1. Kingman followed that up by driving Bonds and himself home with a 2-run shot off RHP Ken Forsch.
Bonds had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 5. In postgame comments to the San Francisco Chronicle, Bonds said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
