Some of you may have been following my Field of Dreams postings which include random matchups through the games history. That is a much much larger endevour and will likely take a lifetime. I will continue those posts as I enjoy using all teams through the games history so I encourage you to continue to follow it.
In the meantime I have decided to dedicate myself to something more achievable and within my range of completing. I am sure it has been done and probably is being dome by many other wonderful members of this board, but I think everyone should do their own version as I think the unpredictability of the game is something we all marvel at.
So I will make things quite simple. All pennant winners from 1903-2017 will be involved in a tournament to determine the best team. To me winning the pennant in baseball is almost as important as anything in sports, in fact there are seasons where winning the pennant was more celebrated than a world series.
There have been 113 world series and thus 226 pennant winners. These teams will compete against eachother in a best of seven simulated series.
I have used challonge.com for creating such competitions and I will do so again. What I can say is that the numbers of course are not perfectly even for a balanced bracket, so the way things work out 30 teams will receive a first round bye.
- All bye teams will be World Series Champions and will be drawn a random.
- No World Series champions will face off against eachother in the first round.
- All World Series Champions will have home field advantage.
