08/10/1973 - Red-Hot Garrett Scorches Giants
It seemed that New York third baseman Wayne Garrett could do no wrong as the Mets KO'd the Giants, 8-5 today. Garrett rapped out 5 hits in 6 at-bats and seemed to know which pitches Giants hurlers were throwing.
"I think the Mets were stealing signs," growled one unhappy San Francisco fan after the game.
"I just felt good today. I saw the ball well and just wanted to make good contact and put the ball in play," said the jubilant Garrett in the postgame press interview.
Wayne Garrett flied out in the 1st, hit a two-run single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 9th and doubled in the 12th.
This year Garrett is hitting at a .234 pace with 3 home runs and 38 RBIs. He has played in 113 games and scored 54 times
Kingman took Mets starter RHP Craig Swan deep in the losing effort.
