The Series got off to a quiet start today, with the host New York 1942 Yankees taking a low-scoring 2-1 win over the New York 1973 Mets. New York 1942 right-hander Hank Borowy was marvelous at Yankee Stadium I and was named player of the game. The Yankees now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.
New York 1942 grabbed control in the bottom of the sixth. With two out and runners on 1st and 2nd, Jerry Priddy delivered a 2-run double, to make it 2-0 in favor of the Yankees.
Borowy called the triumph "a good team win."
Tom Seaver pitched very well for the losing Mets going into the seventh inning while striking out nine.
Game 2 is scheduled for tomorrow in New York. Slated to start are Jon Matlack for the New York 1973 Mets and Red Ruffing for the the New York 1942 Yankees.
