Wild Card and Divisional Series
October 3rd, 2028: The postseason officially starts today!
I earned the achievement "Most Pitching Wins" for Steve Paustian's 16 wins.
Here's how the postseason picture looks:
American League:
AL East: Boston Red Sox (88-74)
AL Central: Minnesota Twins (89-73)
AL West: Seattle Mariners (91-71)
Wild Card Host: Texas Rangers (90-72)
Wild Card Guest: Tampa Bay Rays (87-75)
National League:
NL East: Miami Marlins (100-62)
NL Central: Cincinnati Reds (97-65)
NL West: San Francisco Giants (88-74)
Wild Card Host: St. Louis Cardinals (95-67)
Wild Card Guest: Philadelphia Phillies (93-69)
October 4th, 2028: We start with the NL Wild Card Game, a.k.a. the game to lose to the Marlins in the NLDS. Lenny Torres took the mound for the Cardinals against Dursun Erbakan of the Phillies. Despite a great outing for Erbakan, the Cards won 6-1. Erbakan went 6 innings with 2 hits, a run, 3 walks, and 7 strikeouts. Torres went 5.1 innings with 3 hits, 2 walks, and 7 strikeouts. Ezequiel Galaraza hit a pinch hit two run homer in the 7th.
October 5th, 2028: The Rays were in Texas for the AL Wild Card game as Jacob Faria faced Dan Scott. Faria tossed 6 innings with 4 hits, a run, a walk, and 8 strikeouts in a 6-1 win. Matt Walner was 1-for-3 with a walk and three run homer, while Anderson Franco was 1-for-4 with a three run homer of his own.
October 6th, 2028: The NLDS starts, and the Cardinals are in Town for the first two of the five game sest. Jorge Flores (12-11, 3.81 ERA, 1.16 WHIP) started game 1 against 23-year-old Juan Sevilla (13-10, 5.08 ERA, 1.46 WHIP) who has Cy Young potential, but back of the rotation current talent. Flores is an impressive 0-3 with a 5.40 ERA against the Cardinals this year... He gave up 4 in the first, and it looked awful. We got 2 in the 4th, but were down 4-2 entering the 9th. We managed to tied it up to force extras, jsut for Corbin Carroll to get a go-ahead RBI single in the 10th for the 5-4 win.
Yay...
I think we've lost like 5 straight postseason games...
Flores managed to finish 4 innings with 5 hits, 4 runs, and 5 strikeouts. Jaime Priest tossed 3 innings with 2 hits, a walk, and 3 strikeouts. Chad Scoles got the loss, an inning with 2 hits, a run, and strikeout.
Jackson Miller was 2-for-4 with a triple and run scored. Noah Smith was 2-for-5 with a solo homer. Juan Simental had a pinch hit solo shot in the 9th. Jarred Kelenic was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Daylen Lile was 1-for-4 with a walk and run scored. Chris Reid was 1-for-4 with a walk.
In the other NLDS match, the Giants topped the Reds 12-9, despite impressive performances from Petey Halpin (3-for-5 with a homer, 2 RBI's, and 3 runs) and Jamie Zerger (1-for-3 with a walk, 2 runs, and three run homer). Giants LF Vincente Sanchez was 3-for-5 with 2 doubles, a homer, 2 runs, and 6 RBI's.
October 7th, 2028: Four games today, as we looked to even the series with Devon Peterson (13-9, 3.54 ERA, 1.29 WHIP) taking on Luis Manzano (13-10, 3.98 ERA, 1.27 WHIP). Well, today sucked, and we lost 4-3. We're headed to St. Louis down 2-0...
Peterson went 7 innings with 8 hits, 4 runs, a walk, and 10 strikeouts. Luis Alcantra allowed a hit and walk with 2 strikeouts.
Chris Reid did all he could, 3-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI's. Daylen Lile was 2-for-4 with 2 runs and a walk. Jarred Kelenic was 2-for-4. Peterson was 1-for-2 with a run scored.
The Reds evened the series with a 16-9 win over the Giants. Rafael Devers was 3-for-5 with a double, 5 RBI's, and a run scored. Tyler Callihan was 3-for-5 with a double, homer, 2 runs, and 4 RBI's Dave Morgan was 4-for-5 with a double, 3 runs, and 2 RBI's.
The AL consisted of a 8-0 Twins shutout of the Red Sox and a Rays 6-2 win over the Mariners.
At least tomorrow is off...
October 8th, 2028: The AL had the stage, and both series ended up tied at 1. So just we suck...
The Red Sox topped the Twins 5-2. Bryce Harper was 2-for-3 with a homer, 4 RBI's, and a walk. The Mariners beat the Rays 7-2. Luis Flores tossed 7 innings with 2 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks, and 7 strikeotus in the win. Janisel Rivera was 2-for-3 with a homer and 3 RBI's.
October 9th, 2028: Could this be it? Jake Florence (9-2, 3.79 ERA, 1.38 WHIP) took on Lenny Torres (5-6, 3.50 ERA, 0.99 WHIP; 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 0.94 WHIP) as the Cardinals look to finish the sweep at home. After 100 wins in the regular season, we couldn't win one stinking game in the playoffs. The Cardinals got 4 in the 9th, including a walk-off two run homer by Rodolfo Medrano in a 8-7 win to send the World Series favorites home without winning a game...
I'm too upset to finish writing...
We've lost out last 7 postseason games...
How does that happen!?!?!!?
We haven't won a series (not counting the 2025 Wild Card Game) since we won the World Series in 2024!
Man this blows...
