Awards, Arbitration, and Pre-Free Agency

November 4th, 2028: Okay, so obviously, I've go some things that need to happen in the offseason because I want to win a playoff game, let alone a World Series.

It'll be a bit harder, as Jake Florence decided to opt-out. Re-signing him will be a pain, and I'm going to have to bite the bullet and let him file.

I executed Trevor Gott's $2.4 million option instead of executing the $240,000 buyout.

My new budget is $212 million, good for 23rd in the league. So obviously it sucks, but at least it did go up a bit.

My personal contract was extended 2 years for $1.9 million a year.

I almost accidentally traded C.J. Jorgensen to the Royals for Jeff Hormann. Hormann doesn't suck by any means, but it would have been an awful deal. Luckily, the escape key overrided the accidental enter when I clicked "Accept" instead of "Reject" when moving to fast...

The Indians fired longtime GM Mike Chernoff. He's been in charge since 2018, and went to five straight postseasons. Since 2023, however, they've sucked, and he got the pink slip.

The Brewers fired first year GM Nate Byrnes. He was the Winnipeg Goldeyes GM last year, and lead the Brewers to a 59-103 record this year. They also fired manager Norm Charlton who was in his first year after spending 2022-2027 with none other then the Indians.

Colroado fired GM Tony Reagnis. He was in charge since 2021, and made the playoffs in 2022 and 2027, but the Rockies took a huge step back this year, finishing 68-94.

The Padres fired rookie GM Lindsay Rosenberg. He was 61-101 in his only season.

Arbitration:
RP Luis Alcantra (1-year, $1,990,000)
RP Ignacio Hinojos (1-year, $3,890,000)
RP Jamie Priest (1-year, $2,780,000)
2B Deshawn Hardamon (Could have traded him for the fragile and costly superstar Benni Vogl, but I instead non-tendered him)
2B Noah Smith (1-year, $5,450,000)
3B Chris Reid (1-year, $16,370,000): He wanted 5 years and a lot of money, but I wasn't willing to break the bank on a declining defender
SS Isaac Nunez (1-year, $5,950,000)
SS Jon Reid (1-year, $2,150,000)
CF Daylen Lile (1-year, $8,350,000)
RF Jarred Kelenic (1-year, $19,360,000): Wanted 9-years, but I wasn't willing to dish that out for a fragile almost 30-year-old
RF Mike Siani (1-year, $1,094,000)

Extended the qualifying offer to Jake Florence, looked to extend Mac Horvath and Jordan Montgomery. Horvath for his skill, Monty for his leadership, consistency, and since he's my favorite player in this world. He's been a Marlin since 2019, and even with his skill decline, he's a valuable team figure.

Ian Happ, Jorge Flores, and Blayne Enlow will file for free agency. I wish I could extend or qualify Flores (midseason trade), but he wants a ton of cash, $179 million for 5 years...

November 7th, 2028: Change of plans on Enlow: I'm extending him cheap and am using him as expansion bait. Worst case, I have a very cheap and effective long man with killer stuff.

November 12th, 2028: Enlow and Horvath both extended. Enlow 3 years for $1.9 million a year, Horvath 5-years, $12 million a year with a player option on 2033. Yesterday was his 31st birthday, so consider it a late gift.

What's crazy though, is for a player with a ton of talent like Horvath, his skill set isn't really profitable. No power (20 doubles and 4 homers), ton of walks (128 to lead the legaue), and excellent defense isn't really what gives you a ton of money. His .418 OBP towers over his .329 slugging, and his .059 ISO is laughable (Devon Peterson has a .044, Luis Ardon .070, and Jake Florence .078).

Isaac Nunez was named the 2028 Gold Glove winner at shortstop, the third of his career.

November 13th, 2028: Blue Jays CL Sergio Morales (30, 150) and Cardinals CL Dana White (30, 150) were named unanimous Relievers of the Year. Chad Scoles (9) picked up a few points for one reason or another.

November 14th, 2028: Jarred Kelenic won the Platinum Stick for NL right fielders. It's the second of his career, and he managed to stay healthy the whole year and hit .337/.425/.523 with 18 homers and 75 RBI's.

November 15th, 2028: Mariners 1B Alex Brewer (24, 131) and Pirates CF Emeka Longs (23, 133) were named Rookie of the Years.

The Giants swapped 1B Zhao-jun Ou-yang and 1B Andy Voigt to the Rockies for RHP Eric Warren. I like this trade for the Rockies, and Ou-yang should hit really well at Coors.

November 16th, 2028: Jordan Montgomery finally signed his extension. He'll make $2.8 million all three years. The first yera guaranteed, the 2nd a team option, the third a 40 inning vesting option. Heading into this contract, he's made a nice $148,415,000 in his 12 year career.

Twins Manager Christian Finley and Cardinals Manager Barrett Dail were named Manager of the Year.

November 17th, 2028: Mariners ace Sergio Barreto (13, 142) and no-hit Reds wonderkid Esteban Aguirre (30, 210) were named Cy Young winners. Jorge Flores (13) and Devon Peterson (2) got a few pitty votes.

November 18th, 2028: Mariners RF Janisel Rivera (30, 420) and Phillies 1B Xavier Carter (30, 420) were unanimous MVP's, with Carter winning the triple crown (.338, 61 HR, 129 RBI). Juan Ramirez (162) was 4th with other Marlins Jarred Kelenic (80) and Chris Reid (19) getting some mentions.

November 26th, 2028: Jake Florence declined the qualifying option and will likely make a huge sum of money that will never equate to the experience of remaining a Marlin. Sadly for Florence, and likely whoever gives him way to much money, is on the decline. He's still a stud, don't get me wrong, but in a few years he will likely not be worth the money.

The hall of fame voting starts today, and here's my ballot:

1B Miguel Cabrera
2B Robinson Cano
SP Zack Greinke
SP Felix Hernandez
LF Matt Holliday
RF Nick Markakis
RP Andrew Miller
C Yadir Molina
C Buster Posey
SP Max Scherzer

I wanted to vote for Justin Verlander and Joey Votto too, but Miller and Markakis need the votes much more. Neither of the V's will drop, and could get in without me.

Free Agents file tomorrow! And expansion is announced with the draft the day after!
