With a 3-0 win over the New York 1973 Mets tonight at Shea Stadium, the New York 1942 Yankees wrapped this first round series.

New York 1942 left little doubt who was the better club. "Team" was the word of the day as the Yankees celebrated the culmination of their banner year in the victors clubhouse following the game.

"Hitting, pitching, fielding; those are all things you need to win, but most importantly you need a team, a team that works together toward the same collective goal," said New York 1942 manager Joe McCarthy. "Our players felt that way all year and they played that way. When one guy had an off day, 24 others stepped up their game and filled the void."

A jovial mood filled the air as New York 1942 celebrated into the night.
"We're going to celebrate our team." Joe Dimaggio said.

1973 Mets manager Yogi Berra was reflective in defeat after his team scored two runs against Yankee pitching in four games. "They are the better team than us, so we couldnt beat them."

The Yankee pitching was the difference as Marv Breuer pitched a complete game shutout in game four. Breuer was award the MVP award for the series as well.

The 1942 Yankees will now move on to play the 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks in a best of seven series.

Series MVP: Marv Breuer (1-0, 9 IP, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K)
