Spring Training

February 26th, 2029: Spring training starts today, so I made my callups to the big league club.

The Boston Doves made another expansion trade, sending 3B Hudson Potts to the Montreal Expos for RHP's Jimmy McMahon and Jared Jones. I guess it's an even trade, although none of these guys are really worth much.

February 29th, 2029: The San Francisco Giants signed LF Adam Haseley to a 1-year, $5.3 million contract.

March 9th, 2029: Ayden Hardemon went on the DL with a sore elbow. He'll be back before Spring Training ends.

March 13th, 2029: The Chicago Cubs signed CL Jamie Callahan to a 2-year, $4.6 million per year deal with the final a team option. The longtime Met closer has 308 saves with a 3.17 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 712.2 innings.

March 16th, 2029: Jackson Miller is headed to the DL with knee soreness.

March 17th, 2029: The Rangers will be without LHP Yoshiaga Horn for the rest of the year with a partially torn UCL.

March 20th, 2029: Ayden Hardemon returned to the active roster.

March 24th, 2029: I locked up Devon Peterson to 2035 with a new extension. He had a team option for 2030 at $14.5 million that will now be guaranteed, and will make $23,810,000 per-year starting in 2031. The 2035 season is a team option. After his breakout year last year, I couldn't afford for him to get more expensive, and the 30-year-old has gotten better with age with no signs of decline. The rotation has taken hits with free agents leaving, and will likely lose C.J. Jorgensen at the end of the year.

March 26th, 2029: Jackson Miller rejoined the club.

March 27th, 2029: The Reds will be without Steve Hates for the rest of the year with a torn ulnar collateral ligamenet. This is a huge hit to the Reds, as the former #4 overall pick by the Athletics has been a great pitcher the past three seasons.

March 30th, 2029: The Cubs added Edwin Diaz to the roster on a 2-year, $28.8 million per year deal. The Cubs traded him to the Nationals midseason, and then grabbed him in Free Agency like what they did with Jorge Flores. This is also the first multi-yera deal for Diaz, who decided after two teams last year, he can sign for two years instead of 1. He has 342 career saves, a 2.89 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 1,317 strikeouts in 877 innings.

I also started making roster cuts today. I designated Joseph Jarneski for assignment and retired Jordan Montgomery. I'd hire him as a pitching coach in the GCL.

April 1st, 2029: I traded Jarneski and Mike Burrell to the Expos for RF Parker Meadows. All salary is retained by the origional team.

Meadows, 29, is an expensive 4th outfielder with elite defense and speed. His bat is decent as well, but nothing special. The longtime Royal hit .258/.346/.377 with 58 homers, 127 steals, and 335 RBI's with the Royals before being selected in the expansion draft.

Here's the roster for the 2029 season:

SP Luis Ardon (2.5/2.5)
SP C.J. Jorgensen (3.5/3.5)
SP Steve Paustian (3.5/3.5)
SP Devon Peterson (4/4)
SP Pat Saitta (4.5/4.5)
RP Luis Alcantra (4/4.5)
RP Josh Brown (4/4)
RP Gene Hall (4/4)
RP Ignacio Hinojos (4/4.5)
RP C.J. LaFever (4/4.5)
RP Jamie Preist (3.5/3.5)
RP Jake Yearick (4/4.5)
CL Chad Scoles (5/5)
C Jackson Miller (5/5)
C Jorge Tapia (1.5/4)
1B Gregorio Alvarenga (3.5/3.5)
1B Mac Horvath (4/4)
2B Jon Reid (2.5/3.5)
2B Noah Smith (3.5/3.5)
3B Chris Reid (4/4)
SS Isaac Nunez (4/4)
LF Daylen Lile (4/4)
LF Juan Ramirez (5/5)
CF Juan Simental (3.5/5)
RF Parker Meadowns (2.5/2.5)
RF Jarred Kelenic (4/4)

If we don't win a playoff game this year...
