The San Francisco Giants went down to defeat to Bob Shirley and his San Diego teammates. The final score was 5-2 in favor of the Padres. The Padres move to 40-52 with the win, while the Giants drop to 52-36.

Early in the game, third baseman Dave Kingman had a 2-run home run off LHP John Curtis for San Diego. It was his 7th home run as a Padres and put the Padres on top, 2-0.

"It's nice to come out on top today," said Kingman.
